What’s everyone’s favorite HSS load out?

 

Personally, with my IF, Volkite Culverins because, in a pinch, you can use the sheer volume of fire as emergency AA and anti light armor thanks to native Tank Hunters.

Me too, although I play IW.

It's just a nice unit with which you can gun down squads and light vehicles.

Often I play them in a bunker with ammo.

I originally planned on doing a unit of 10 with ML but I started wondering if 1x5 ML and 1x5 of another weapon was better. I've really been eyeing the volkite culverin.


Since this is a hobby thread, anyone realize you bought waaayy too many models waaayy too soon? I dove in deep on World Eaters in 2016, have not finished that Army at all. Although I do have the most built and painted for them.

My main project now is Word Bearers. I actually think I'm going to end up finishing them first. Currently working on 1x10 Tac Marines (nu-CSM bodies with MkIV bits), a Leviathan and a Contemptor. 

Did a quick inventory last week, I still have 30+ MkIII and 30+ MkIV untouched still on the sprue  It's amazing how fast you can get overwhelmed with a backlog. I wish I could dedicate myself to just finishing 30k or 40k, but something pops up in the warhammer news that makes me feel like I need to rush and finish 'X' project. 

Speaking of getting more models none of us likely need, what are everyone's plans for the rumored new HH boxset? I'm 90% on starting a new Army and I think it's going to be SoH.

I think the MkVI armor does create a bit of an issue that can make it hard to stay "modest," as you put it. Like I said, my Word Bearers are using nu-CSM bodies.. they're a fairly late heresy setting (which I decided on after getting the new PA praetor) and super slick and clean power armor wouldn't fit with the rest of my Army. I don't think MkVI fits well with my World Eaters either.. I wouldn't skip out on the new boxset just because it doesn't fit any of my current armies and I really liked how the armor looked on the Sons of Horus. Kinda gives me an excuse to do what I wanted to do anyway.. if I had seen some of the armies I'd seen lately that were super well painted Sons of Horus I may not have started my World Eaters at all in the beginning.

Hmmm. Well my World Eaters are pretty small (and still on 25mm bases) so scale may be a problem. My Alpha Legion are already partly mk 6 so maybe I wouldn’t like to mix a different mk 6. My Blood Angels have some nods to mk 6 as a late heresy force, but also have mark 2 and 3 so maybe another would be too many...

 

Looks like you’re right. New Legion it is!

 

Or maybe I should be brave and wait for the mark 2, but if they don’t come in a big box set, they’ll be more expensive per model.

Lamebeard, I love the toxicity in this community, instead of encouraging each other to have some restraint, we encourage each other to give in to the addiction

That's not toxicity it's called passion.

 

Regarding your question: It depends on what you want to achieve with this unit.

I myself gave my ten man squad a flamer and a melter gun, because I almost exclusively  use them in ZM.

My experience tell me, that a more focused approach would have been wiser, though.

Two flamer or two melter are much better I guess.

But since we play HH and have a community which play more modest army lists in general it works just fine nonetheless.

So familiar. If it makes you feel any better, I started my Alpha Legion in 2014. I'm aiming to finish them up this year and call them done. Then I'll begin on my next 30k army - either an Ordo Reductor force or Dark Angel Dreadwing. Though, the new box set is tempting me to make an Imperial Fists all Terminator and Land Raider force...

I prefer to think of it as sensibly hedging my bets against another round of surprise NLAs. Responsible. Wise, even.

So I'm torn on my next army. I've had to shelve angels and NL's due to some technical issues so I'm moving up plans for either shattered legions or luthors dark angels. But I can't decide.

Finished converting up some of the hachette partworks bikers into 30k raven guard, wondering whether I should give the outriders meltabombs too, as with furious charge, S7 AP 2 power axes might have a decent chance against vehicles in a pinch

If you have an unused Tartaros heavy flamer and a spare heavy bolter, you can make a serviceable approximation

by combining the two together - the back takes a bit of filling in though:

thanks! yeah thankfully the cataphractii claws are the same pattern as the one in the mkIII kit so I had lots of bits for converting the right-handed one
