Hasoroth
I love the Imperial Guard. I love the variety of character between regiments. I love the sheer grit and determination that characterizes their existence. I want to make a hundred Guardsmen and Guardswomen, with each one representing a different regiment. I don't want to make a hundred differently colored Cadians, I want these guys to embody their own cultures, their own histories, their own specialties. So I'm starting off with three WIP Guardsmen (and I have another three regimental examples finished in my Hall of Honor thread here). Without further ado: Attteri Chosen Thakto Rangers Salachar Heavy Infantry So right now I'm at 6/100. I'll keep you guys posted. If anyone has some specific third party conversion pieces that they would like to see used please let me know. These three examples have been made using a mixture of GW, Mad Robot Miniatures, and Victoria Miniatures pieces - I've also used Pig Iron Production pieces on some of my guys in the Hall of Honor thread. Brother Dallo
Looking good so far Hasoroth. I recommend Bolt Action sprues for appropriately scaled 3rd party bits. Have you got all hundred regiments decided or are you taking suggestions? And yes I would love ideas for some Guard regiments, not sure my limited capacity for imagination could conjure a full hundred. Brother Dallo
I’ll suggest the 31st Riverine. I’m working on a few in my plog, so it would be nice to see a second take on them. Ryltar Thamior
Great concept ; and also impressed with what I've just seen in your HoH thread. Can probably assist with some conceptualization [have various mythological, linguistic, and military-historical competencies] ; although if you just want to take a quick and easy approach, 1d4chan has Guard and Storm Trooper regiment creation tables that'll either spark some ideas or just produce randomly generated combinations for you.You may also find some use in the old 3rd ed Guard codex plates of regiments. I also just happened across this homage somebody's done relatively recently in much the same style. Oh and, old Jes Goodwin concept art for Guard. You also might find some further points of inspiration in the 30k era - whether official novels/fluff, stuff people have put together themselves (miniatures or fluff-wise), or B&C's own IHF's heresy design threads that have some rather cool illustrations for potential Auxilia and suchlike. Also, looking at what you've built thus far, I'm sensing that you've probably got a not insignificant quotient of Cadian torsos etc. after making use of all them Cadian legs with various third-party upper bodies. One easy possibility would be utilizing Greatsword legs with Cadian torsos for a more ornate, flamboyant look. I've also done greatsword legs with scion torsos, cadian arms, and greatsword and/or pistolier heads when I was on a Carolean vibe a few years back; as well as neophyte legs and scion torsos plus catachan backpacks for my ongoing Army of Unification project; ; Goliath with Scion head and a few other alterations for Afriel Strain; a few sorts of spins on scion legs, plastic mk.III power-armour torsos, scion arms etc. for heavy infantry, and for that matter, sea dragon cloaks on scion legs and torso-fronts; cadian & orlock and .. various other parts for elite looking modern-ish Auxilia ; van saar female, escher head, scion pad also, along with orlock weapons on blood reavers, and old chaos marauder legs, scion torsos neophyte hybrid shotguns ; oh and .. all sorts of bitz for IVth Legion auxilia that my longstanding associate Umbral built for me a few years back. Also, for good measure, greatsword legs and torsos with cadian arms, but Scion beret heads make for an interesting aesthetic. There's more ... but you get the idea. This was an incredibly high quality post and I greatly appreciated it. That 3rd Edition IG picture of all the various regiments is 1) one of my favorite pieces from any of the Codices and 2) a huge inspiration to this project. I particularly enjoyed your Scion + MK III torso mash ups, I've been using a similar set up for my Skitarii (MK III torsos, Bloodreaver Legs, Cadian accessories). You're right as to my surplus of Cadian torsos, I have some plans for them. Two unifying themes for my collection are 1) the bases which depict a ruined city and 2) a little bit of Cadian (usually just grenades and laspacks) pieces to represent some sort of unified logistical chain that's pumping out fatigues and basic flak vests. Once I get more comfortable with sculpting I'm going to try filling in the Cadian flak vest torso with greenstuff to make a breastplate kinda like this to represent different marks of armor. Hasoroth
Salachar Heavy Infantry Salachar is a world besieged. Invaded by an Ork Waagh in the early centuries of the Imperium's birth, the planet learned at a deep cost the price of laxity. Regiments of the Salachar Heavy Infantry are renowned for their perseverance and endurance in battle, a cultural trait honed to a fine edge by their homeworld's efforts to contain increasingly frequent outbreaks of feral Orks - primitive descendants of Salachar's original invaders. Almost to a man all members of the Salachar Heavy Infantry are veterans of combat before they swear their oath of enlistment to the Imperial Guard, with most serving in the PDF's repeated cullings of their native Ork infestation. Bulchin Battleborn The temperate planet of Bulchin is seen by some factions of the Munitorum as their greatest success. Trapped in an artificially perpetuated state of total war the industrial age nations of Bulchin vie with one another ceaselessly, bolstered by clandestine shipments of new arms and armor from the Munitorum eager to analyze their new tools in true 'live fire' exercises. Members of the Bulchin Battleborn are 'gifted' as tithes by the planets complicit ruling elite, eager to trade flesh in return for new technologies with which to better conquer their rivals.
