GreenScorpion
As mentioned yesterday, here are some photos of the WIP mini-diorama (soldier for scale only, not part of diorama): The mini-diorama is meant to represent a sniper hiding in a wooden shack which will be covered in a camouflage net and surrounded by trees/bushes (provided that I find a good way to make trees with leaves). The camouflage net will likely be made with those metal wires covered in plastic that come with sliced bread and similar products in some countries or that are available with those freezing/sandwich bags. I have lots of those lying around, so I should be able to make a reasonably large net with it.This diorama is the first of two of the same type, since I have another sniper rifle to spend. In case you are wondering why there are no doors, it is because the shack was built on top of the tunnel network in the forest, so there is an escape hatch at the bottom of the shack, which the sniper would use to enter or leave its position as needed ;) I also finished another group of 5 infantry conversions: Tallarn Commander and duz_ 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/366624-cornelivs-maximvs-allied-regiments/page/9/#findComment-5816482 Share on other sites

GreenScorpion
Thanks duz_ I freed up some space on my hobby area today, so I might try making the net in the evening, lets see how it works out :) This easter has been quite productive, so I have another update today :) I have been thinking about using some "garbage" to make fortifications, turrets and other defences to help with getting a few more terrain pieces (eventually I should change to bigger buildings but for now the smaller stuff is the focus). Using a dessert container, a ball from a deodorant and some conic sprue bits (along with a bit of brown stuff), I made these two anti-air defence turrets, with rotating weapon emplacements.I reckon it might be difficult to keep the ball rotating after painting but it should be possible. The idea is to use these turrets as part of a network of bunkers, turrets and other defences (perhaps with some walls and trenches in the mix as well), in order to create some modular terrain that can be placed together as part of a large set of fortifications or as small outposts. I have also finished painting a batch of 3 vehicles, a taurox and 2 leman russes. Some of the interior details of the taurox have been painted (mostly indicator lights and such) and I haven't glued the top of the taurox, so the interior can be seen whenever desired, but it can be closed for using it on the battlefield. Next steps will be to try and make the netting for the sniper hut, also make a few turrets out of shorter dessert containers and priming the next batch of miniatures (should be infantry next, but I still have to decide the exact contents of the batch). duz_, Bjorn Firewalker, Tallarn Commander and 1 other 4 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/366624-cornelivs-maximvs-allied-regiments/page/9/#findComment-5816850 Share on other sites
GreenScorpion
My initial plans for the camo net didn't quite work, so my mother suggested a different approach using some wool. The prototype net looks like this (25mm base for scale): Placed on the shack/hut it looks like this: You might be able to see the rifle poking out of the net, but overall it looks like a small hill from a distance. The brown net will likely be used with some trees without leaves and a green net will be made for the second hut, which will have some trees and bushes with leaves. I will be experimenting with methods to create the leaves soon, but for the moment I have been working on building the second hut. duz_ and Bjorn Firewalker 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/366624-cornelivs-maximvs-allied-regiments/page/9/#findComment-5817735 Share on other sites
GreenScorpion
Another update from the front (it really seems like I have been posting a lot lately). I finished another group of conversions mostly focused on soldiers with crude close combat weapons. I also finished painting another batch of infantry, including some soldiers with special weapons and crew for artillery. I already primed the next batch of miniatures and I should start working with the brushes tomorrow :) WarriorFish 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/366624-cornelivs-maximvs-allied-regiments/page/9/#findComment-5818092 Share on other sites
Slave to Darkness
For camo netting you could get a bandage and stretch it so the holes get bigger, or you could try those weird nets you get fruit in from the grocery store. ++EDIT++ Just found this on amazon. GreenScorpion
Thank you for the comments and recommendations :) Today I have another update with some progress. My mother managed to make another prototype for the net in a rectangular shape rather than circular: I also finished another batch of miniatures, this time it was 14 seated vehicle crew (or crew of any other kind that may be sitting) along with 48 small spiders (not small in 28mm human terms but just smaller than the giant spiders I have). Next on the painting queue are the contents of the last 2 sets of Servants of the Abyss. GreenScorpion
What are the spiders for Honestly I got the spider boxes mostly for the large ones I used for the dwarvish cavalry, but I was thinking about using the smaller ones as minions or decoration for dioramas/terrain. I am guessing that not all of the Blackstone Fortress drones need to be tall frail creatures. I could also use them as some sort of tyranid invasion force as they are about the size of a 25mm base, so they could easily represent ripper swarms and the like infesting a planet that my soldiers need to clean. Like the spider victims that come with the same kit, the small spiders are just nice 1 piece models that are not necessarily 40k relevant but can be used for lots of things if desired ;) Some times I just like to have some nice things lying around. I think I didn't show those in the past, but my 19th century british infantry (pretty much meant to represent the Praetorians from Big Toof River) have 2 canine officers, Captain Black Paws and Lieutenant Woof, which are also 1 piece models but in this case from perry miniatures. GreenScorpion
Another update from the front, this time with the progress on several things over the past days. First, I have finished the conversions based on Anvil parts (those 2 small bags of parts really lasted forever), bringing the total infantry built in this way to 76. I have finished painting the last 2 sets of servants of the abyss from blackstone fortress. I also finished building the second shack with the matches. As part of my ongoing effort to build some more terrain, I have also modified a few desert cups to create some turrets. The next batch of miniatures has already been primed, this time it represents 4 of the walker vehicles from Mantic that I built some months ago. As a side note, I am likely going to start posting more infrequently in the future, since I have started on a project that might bear some financial fruits if things go well, so I will be returning to a regular office schedule and only painting on the weekends. Lets see how things progress :) Bjorn Firewalker, TCC and duz_ 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/366624-cornelivs-maximvs-allied-regiments/page/9/#findComment-5822067 Share on other sites
GreenScorpion
Another week, another progress update Since I finished the Anvil based conversions, I started working on conversions based on the GSC cult insurrection battleforce I got back in 2018.I have attempted to make some legs for these ones, rather than the robes I did for the Anvil batches, but obviously it is still far from being an exact science. Regardless, the conversions from this box are mostly meant to represent the miners from Airom, the planet where Cornelivs was born, including the mutant ones, so any strange legs and proportions are the result of non warp related mutations and not any lack of skills from the converter I also finished painting a batch of walker vehicles that I got from Mantic. 3 of them are equipped with a flamer and a chainsaw, while the other one is equipped with some sort of plasma thingy (the laser cannons for this kit are in metal so I have them store for now for use in conversions). Since they are on 60mm base, they could easily be used as sentinel proxies, as the size might be a bit bigger but nothing that would give me an advantage. The next batch of miniatures to paint should consist of tanks (some of the Meng World War Toons tanks I built last year or the year before). GreenScorpion
It has been a long time since I last posted in this thread, but the progress in terms of painting and other things has certainly not stopped during this period. The 20 models took me 3 days to paint, but I think these are among the best miniatures I have painted so far (with the best/more detailed being mostly characters), so it was worth the effort. GreenScorpion
Today I managed to finish painting another batch of miniatures, this time a group of dwarves mounted on giant spiders and their dwarvish infantry support. The high temperatures and the fires in the region don't exactly making painting easy, but I am quite happy with the result, despite the fact that paint simply dries too fast at the moment. GreenScorpion
Yesterday I finished building some heavy weapons and command groups based on the grognards command and heavy weapons box. I made moulds of some of the parts to help me with building the full contents of the first sprue, building a total of 15 soldiers, including 7 working as heavy weapon crews (the odd number is because I have decided to leave the gunner of the quad cannon by herself, as I am planning to use it as a turret rather than a HWT) and 8 soldiers in the command group. Most of the parts came from the first of 3 sprues of the grognards box, with some arms coming from the spare bits of the regular grognards boxes I had built before. The command group includes a sitting wounded soldier which was an initial miscast from a poorly done mould that was missing one foot and had other small issues. The wounded soldier will have some signs of blood and damage when I paint him, so it is clear that he is a fighting casualty. I have 2 more sprues in the box, so my expectation is to build 30 more soldiers in a similar way. duz_, Emperor Ming and CaptainFrederickson 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/366624-cornelivs-maximvs-allied-regiments/page/9/#findComment-5849263 Share on other sites

I have some infantry flying supports that I have not used from the conquest issues I got (I modelled the infantry landing on the base), so I could attempt to make a floating weapons platform, but that would require some form of propulsion. duz_ 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/366624-cornelivs-maximvs-allied-regiments/page/9/#findComment-5849634 Share on other sites
GreenScorpion
Another week passes and more progress is ready to be shown This time I finished painting another batch of miniatures, some marauders for my Berserkers of Lobivret. It was mentioned when I first showed them in this thread that due to the berserk status I was thinking about using them as Arco-flagellants. I remember you had asked about whether they would serve as Crusaders and that might be an option too, although I think the Arco-flagellants would match more closely with the fluff. I found the previous post: EDIT: Just for reference, in my books I have a sub-faction called Crusaders of Faith which work mostly like a mixed gender equivalent to Sisters of Battle or the Inquisition in 40k (not exactly the same thing in practice but fighting style would be similar) so I will eventually have a small force in the future to reflect that, just need to find an adequate source for a mixed gender knight inspired set of plastic kits to use as the base for the conversions. These berserkers could then be used as part of that force.
