Signature Warger 'Master' also adds an extra effect, chosen by the player.

  • +10 to all tests made with the weapon
  • + 1 Cohesion
  • + 2 Initiative
  • + 5 to Willpower tests.

Increasing Craftsmanship to Exceptional will automatically:

  • + 1 to Weapon Damage
  • Weapon gains the Reliable Weapon Quality.

You end up with this:

  • Combi-Melta - 15 Req
  • Crafstmanship Uprgrade (1.5 x Req cost)

Total: 38 Req (rounding up)

You've got 2 left of the 40 allowed by Signature Wargear 'Master'.  Usually this would be eaten up by having to buy the Fire Selector as well, but the GM has been quite liberal with the DW tech! :smile.:

Hey MR, maybe I'm missing something but 15*1.5 = 23 (rounding up), can you tell me where the extra 15 points come from to get it to 38?

It's a good question, I asked myself that when I was planning to Mastercraft Cadence and another one of my club players wanted to do the same thing.

Essentially and simply - you have to buy the gun.

Technical crud incoming:

It works like this - if you Signature Wargear the weapon at Rank 1, you can then just pay for the upgrades at Rank 2, costing exactly what you've calculated.  23 Requisition, but you're paying through the nose with XP.

If you go straight for 'Master', (thereby using your Rank 1 Signature Wargear slot as well) it costs what I stated.  In fact it should cost the whole 40, because the Fire Selector has to be bought with it too, but for Mol exercising some shrewd thinking!  This saves XP, but costs the Req.  I's all a balancing act.

You can't just have your standard equipment upgraded or we'd be looking at a brute of an HB in Akkad's hands right now, (as opposed to the merely uncouth one it is).

It is horribly complicated and nuanced, and I don't like it one bit, but them's the rules.  A lot of this is gleaned from the FFG forums, where the developers have replied and given these "insights".

MR.

Okay, that makes some sense and I agree it kind of sucks.

I always saw it this way:

Techy crunchy stuff

Signature Wargear

Combi-gun 15 Rec

Signature Wargear Master: (It does say it can be spent to upgrade an existing item)

Red Dot Laser sight 10 Rec

1.5 Rec cost upgrade for craftsmanship

Total: 38 after rounding, still under the 40 of master.

Greeblies:

Which is spot on if you took the beast at Sig Gear Rank 1, then upgraded with 'Master' but yeah, clunky isn't the word - don't get me on that soapbox mate!  Best way to do it would be Req the combi with a fire selector, then wait for Rank 2, then Req all the upgrades with the limit.  A scope could be Req'd out of normal mission Req.

Pretty much the way I look at it too then.

And here I am with my Chunky Bolter with a 20 req. minimum wondering if I should shell out 1500 EXP for uh *shuffles notes* a motion predictor.

Thanks for the breakdown!

what I'm gunna do is I'm not gunna take the craftsmanship upgrade. Since is have the Master of Arms distinction, my Astartes weapons automatically gain the reliable talent.

So my weapon breakdown is:

- Astartes Combi-weapon (15)

- Motion predictor (20)

- Dipole Mag-Lock (5)

total req (40)

The bonus i'm taking for the Sig Wargear Master is the +10 to (Ballistic) checks with the weapon.

And here I am with my Chunky Bolter with a 20 req. minimum wondering if I should shell out 1500 EXP for uh *shuffles notes* a motion predictor.

Yeah, that Deathwatch Suspensor being 25 Req is rather annoying, no? :ermm:

Incredibly so. The HB quite a workhorse on its own though so I'm not so hecking peeved, but what I wouldn't do for some cheap custom bitz for me ded flash shoota... erm I mean...

Hello Everyone!,

I apologize for the lateness of my reply. Mol, this is Sterling. I couldn’t remember if I shared this account name with you. Let me know what you need me to do.

For everyone else. I just wanted to say hello. I haven’t posted on the forum for quite a few years, but I used to post as Cpt_Tiberius long ago for anyone who might remember. I read a bit of the previous game and hope I can live up to the great work I saw there.

Cheers!

These Signature Wargear rules seem terribly complicated. I was planning to get Signature Wargear Master and upgrade my powersword "Lightning Bolt" to Master-Crafted when I had the renown for it, is that still possible?

Hi guys,

Yeah - my intention is to start Episode III on Friday 12th February, as that's the three year anniversary of Episode I's start date. I've set up posting deadlines for my current players so that we can meet those deadlines and deliver an exciting ending for you all!

I will, however, start emailing out to new players ahead of the date so that you can prepare your opening posts ahead of time.

Setting my week up right reading this on a miserable Monday morning

MR.

So how many req points do we start the game with. Ie. Can I add upgrades to the DW Bolter I'm running?

Well, technically you haven't started arming for the mission yet. Requisition can be a collaborative process, as Mazer mentioned previously - players can pool their requisition together, should they choose to do so.

The first phase of the game will be acclimating to one another on Watch-Station Azurea, before you are given your assignments.

That's what I thought, but then I saw people talking about scopes and the like and thought I might have missed something.

I'll just tidy up my character sheet and carry on developing my characters back ground a bit, might even build a physical representation of Ekieo to gather inspiration from in times of brain fog.

I'll await your next message of direction.

Cheers CM

I apologize that I am taking so long to get my Character sheet done up and finish up and post Pallan in the character thread but the rules part is... a little overwhelming.... for me.  So many options and having to scroll through thirty pages just to find a definition of something etc.  For someone who has never really played any sort of role playing game it is rather challenging.  This on top of little to no sleep is messing with me.  I promise I am attempting to get somewhere with it though.  Just bear with me.

I'm the same with rules and being a RPG newboob too, but picking up bits and pieces as I'm completing the character sheet. It is though really confusing trying to find the right bits and how much or what you can do. Nothing to do with the group, I think it's down to the book and rules themselves. But the guys on here have been nothing short of awesome in directing me and helping getting things sorted.

I'm sure by the end of the story we will be able to help out the new recruits in the same situation

Argent - please don't worry. Fundamentally, narrative comes before rules. As long as you have a sense of your character, that's all you need to play. One of my favourite Youtubers, Matt Colville, talks about D&D by saying "the character sheet is an imperfect representation of your character."

I or others here in this thread would be happy to lay out some options for you in terms of skills and characteristics to upgrade. Please just let us know!

You sure can.  Just save your xp, keep hold of your stabby stick, and when you hit Distinguished, spoil yourself :)

Interested to hear from the previous players what some of their personal highlights of the campaign have been so far, if you'd indulge us?

Wow, what a question.  I mean that in a lot of ways, firstly because there have been a few, secondly because of how hard it hits me that three years have elapsed and how much we've done as players.  I feel like we're all round a campfire and we're sharing war stories.

And I love war stories.

I ate Tyranid brains once.  It tasted like chicken and drove me mad, so that was cool.

And there was this time I punched a guy in the face whilst holding a krak grenade.

I don't know if it was intentional, but my character is based on Babylonian culture, and speaks in ancient Assyrian, Sumerian and Akkadian.  There was this giant, Alpha Grox bull the size of a small tank that charged at us, bellowing and hollering and churning the earth with its mighty hooves.  Everyone else was busy taking care of pesky Genestealers.  Minnows, really.  Anyway, they all expected me to mow this lumbering, muscle-bound beast down with my heavy bolter, but being Babylonian my character decided that this was the Bull of Heaven, a test sent by an ancient hero, Gilghan Hamesh.   So instead of turning it into burger meat, I harnessed my weapons, planted my feet and stood ready to receive the beast in honourable hand-to-hand combat.

It was a mighty foe indeed!  A full head taller than me, the sheer power of its charge drove me backwards, furrows of earth cut into the ground as I fought to remain upright.  A worthy foe indeed, and I was glad now I had not slain such a magnificent beast with bolt shells!  The horns of the goliath creature scraped my armour, enough to tear rents and gouges in the ceramite, my servo-mechanics and genhanced muscles sorely tested, yet with a prayer to Enlil-Su, the Lord of Heavens Himself, I gripped the beast around it's neck, driving it to the ground in the dust of defeat.  Seeing the animal look in its eyes, knowing it was bested, I released it to live amongst it's kind, knowing there was a bigger Alpha on the planet.

Then I got back to murdering Genestealers.

Oh and we saved a planet.  That was nice.

Oh there's more to that story, but I'll let the man in question talk about that. ;)

All I'll say, is that it was his fault for throwing a crate at me. :biggrin.:
