We have a new unit of the week! This week it's the gribbly Haruspex, one of the newer, but Iconic Tyranid Heavy Support choices, and one of the better shooting options in the army. What are you thoughts here folks? How best would you use a unit of them?

  • To compliment a list, or to build a list around? Will the beta rules affect your list(s)?
  • What size unit? Will you be running multiple units?
  • What Hive Fleet Traits, Adaptations and Stratagems do you prefer and how much does it depend on the above choices?
  • Are you buffing this unit? If so, how?

Over to you.

The big gribbly this time, I got one for Christmas and am keen to get it on the table!

I'm thinking a great use will be the enormous size adaptation on the Ravenous Maw to push it to S8 and D2 so you can wound and kill Primaris on a 2+ in combat, pretty much guaranteeing the extra attack from the claws and the regen.

I'd also combine it with the auto-regen Hive Fleet trait to make an endlessly regenerating stygian nightmare.

Other than that, it's a bit of a mismatch/mish mash. There's no obvious single target for both the mouth and shovelling claws. The bets trick I can think of is to maybe use the massive base to declare a multicharge against an infantry unit next to a tank, and clip both. Each infantry model you kill nets you a free hit against the tank with the shovelling claws.

I need to be sold on the Haruspex as I'm not sure if I like the model or not. That said I've not seen it much and never in person, so arguably I've never properly seen it :P I think it is fairly flexible as far as a big critter that hits things goes, but specialism usually wins out

I'm planning on converting a Haruspex up to look less like the lovechild between a frog, a crab and a squid, and more like an ant-lion larvae. It'll mostly just involve replacing the forelegs and swapping the tongue and tentacles out for scissor-bladed mandibles.

For reference:

The model looks cool in the flesh ;)

I take mine with dermic symbiosis for the extra survivability, especially vs all that melta tgat's so popular lately.
