To any veteran apothecaries who may or may not be lurking in this thread: is there actually any practical utility to boosting my medicae skill bonus into the stratosphere outside of extended care? If I was to purchase another +10 medicae advance for Vesalius, his target number for a +0 test would be 102. I'm honestly considering upgrading to the next level of signature wargear to replace his diagnostor helm or possibly petition our intrepid GM for an elite advance of some sort.

@Necro - Perhaps an increase to Tactics?

Wow, that is a rather lovely sculpt you made for Ithan - I still struggle with doing hair with GS, but this looks pretty I-Conanic ;)

Much appreciated!

Since I sadly don’t really contribute to this much atm, I have not really an idea regarding XP spending - I do want to remind remembering I sort of “borrowed”some of that XP in advance for the signature weapon Combi/Plas before the mission.

Question regarding xp - is the groups renown remaining at respected?

If it is it eliminates the signature psychic hood from Odysseus' list this time around. His other top options currently being either slightly shakey mind control or excessive vehicle/bulkhead destruction powers.

@Xin: I think the combi-plas was your Requisition spend? But yep, could swap it over to a Sig Item? If you want I can work out a few picks, maybe that Combi-tool thing you were looking at from RoB?

(To be honest, if you think your availability will still be a struggle in April, I may say Ithan is needed by Varn for another job somewhere else, as I'd prefer not to autopilot people's characters too much if I don't have to?

We don't have to make any decisions on that until nearer the time though?)

@AT: We are still at Respected, and it is a Distinguished level Item... but I think I'd be OK with him having it* because you wrote about collecting the blackstone and it feels fitting for his backstory that he would use what he could and just build it himself, making the rarity less of a factor? Would it be taken as Sig Wargear? (Master presumably, based on its cost?)

*As long as everyone understands it's a one off and don't start asking me for TDA, etc, etc... :P

In DW, the main use of a Psy Hood is nullifying other Psykers.

But also, even if it were used to magnify, I think the more recent fluff on blackstone (or Noctilith) is that it's like the polarity on a magnet, it can be inverted to focus psychic energy rather than drawing it away.

How do you make a Psychic Hood to amplify Psi ability from Blackstone which dampens Psi?

You take it and trade it to a Forgeworld for a Titan with crew and transport.

You take the Titan and conquer a feudal world.

You gift the feudal world to a Rogue Trader.

Using the Rogue Trader connection to gain influences with the Administratum.

You fill in a requisition form for a psychic hood and use the influence to get it proccesesd and expidiated.

Wait.

Would it be taken as Sig Wargear? (Master presumably, based on its cost?)

Yes, the plan was to take the master wargear trait (1500xp all in) which gives enough requisition for an exceptional craftsmanship psychic hood (or at a stretch a normal psychic hood with the added benefits of a totem of subetai, which would be 40 req on the nose).

The remaining 500 probably goes into psychic level or willpower as most powers are in the 1000+ range, though +5 toughness is also tempting and there are a few good 'minor' powers.

It blocks psychic attacks. Though the range on a normal hood is tiny unless Odysseus himself is included within the effect making it very circumstancial (ideally you'd be able to use it to protect nearby allies, not disrupt psykers that are in spitting distance only - another thought for the exceptional upgrade perhaps).

-though thinking about it Odysseus can already do this with his squad mode to some degree as it lets him treat other members as 'self' for psychic tests, and nullification is treated as a regular psychic focus test.

Mmh, I think a the Combiplas was way over the Req, but I’d have to go way back to check…

I’d actually take you up on your offer to deploy Ithan “elsewhere” for the time being…

I managed to stick my head in since I had a few days off but it is really touch and go at work atm

- I’d say March / April will probably be the earliest time to see how things develop ( especially with an obligation for de-covidination on the horizon there )

so I’d rather play it safe and stay on the sidelines for now

Wait.

PROFIT

FTFY.  No charge.

Odysseus XP:

Signature Wargear(500)

Master Signature Wargear(1000) - exceptional psychic hood

Psychic Power(500) - avenger

Avenger is a somewhat 'safe' psychic power that can be used fettered with no risk to deal with hordes of lesser targets without much risk of friendly fire (compared to smite), and will free up the requisition from his flamer.

With Lysimachus' permission, Vesalius has been granted an opportunity to reroll the bonus XP from his helm-picter's recording thanks to Draak's technical expertise and offer of brotherly help in the matter. Here goes…

Tactics (Recon & Stealth):

Int52 + 10: 62

Helm-Picter XP Re-roll: 1d100 1

01(!!!) - success, 6 DoS

50 XP per DoS x 6 DoS = 300 bonus XP for each member of Kill-Team Cutlass, replacing the previous roll which netted 50.

Woah!  That is some wild going...thanks Necro and GM both! :cool.:

Much Radness!

I helped too

Apologies, mate, you did indeed. :blush.:  Forgetting stuff is what happens when you get to my age, and your innards are replaced with old bicycle tyre inner tubing.

It's only the diet of brain gruel that keeps me going.

Much Radness + Such Wicked!

And with the help of the Ironclad and the Skinner, and our GM:

Advance purchases:

Ravenwing Specialist 1,000xp (Legacy/Background Experience)

(Bonus Talent: Skilled Rider, Advanced Recon)

Mental Fortitude 800xp (Game/Play Experience)

Drive: Skimmer 500xp (Legacy/Background Experience)

XP Spend: 2,300.

I was going to take Lightning Reflexes...but that can come another day ;)

So, with 2,300 Experience to spend I would appreciate any suggestions advice on what to do/get.

Also re the Inferno pistol, do I need to do something to permanently ad it to my list of gear? Also what is its profile? Is an Infernus Pistol the same as an inferno pistol, and if not there appears to be several inferno profiles looking at https://www.40krpgtools.com/armoury/weapons/

General Marine rank 2 awareness+10 (300)

Rank 2 Iron Gods Merc Cant +10 (200)

Rank 2 Assault Marine Pilot Personal +10 (500)

Marines Errant Talented Pilot (500)

Rank 2 Assault Marines Lightning Assault (600)

Still got 350 left in the bank.

@Beren - I take it that you had unspent XP left from Episode 1, as the above spend and remainder totals 2450?

So, with 2,300 Experience to spend I would appreciate any suggestions advice on what to do/get.

The Inferno Pistol will be up to Lysi, but we can help you out with your build.  Give us an idea of how you want to fill Brynjarr out, and we can help with pros and cons, for example:

There's a Talent Devastators can take called Stalwart Defence.  You can apply for this as an Elite Advance (ie it is outside your own XP table for Tactical, Space Marine or Marine Errant).  When you invoke the ability, you can't move or dodge, but if you spend a Fate point, you get a parry against any and every attack that hits you in melee.  With a shield, the benefit of this talent is obvious, and with your defensive attributes and nature, you just form a bulwark that people can't kill and can't get past.

You can even roleplay your demeanour of "To protect others" to gain the free fate point to use.

However, against Hordes, that talent is useless apart from the odd character or individual weapon (A power sword Sergeant for example).

There are also quality of life Talents you can buy like Rapid Reload, which halves the time it takes to reload any given weapon.  A Naval Boltgun, for example takes 1 Full Action to Reload.  With this talent that comes down to a half action, so you can John Wick it, where you empty, reload and then take a shot right after.

This will tie into some Sqaud Modes too, which allow you to reload a weapon for free as part of the action, as long as it only takes a half-reload.

The sky is the limit.  Tell us what you envision for Brynjarr, and we can crunch the rest.

Yep, there will have to be some sort of cost involved in keeping the Pistol (it's the Infernus Pistol from the DW Errata1.1 in terms of rules, though I think Infernus/Inferno are pretty much the same thing?) but I haven't quite worked out how to cost it yet... I'm currently seeking the advice of a more experienced GM... :P

I do like the Stalwart Defence idea, though, feels very Brynjarr!
