A turn-based RPG... *a genre I enjoy quite a bit*

...written by ADB... *so the author who wrote everyone else's go-to book on...*

...The Grey Knights!?! *That's it, have my money!*

...coming out 2022. *ha, now I'm gonna be wishing the rest of the year away.*

Can't wait to see the full trailer. Wonder if it'll coincide with the release of the new codex.

Chaos Gate was easily one of my favourite games as a kid, and seeing this news on the stream was amazing. However, I performed an admittedly casual Google on the games stated developers "Complex Games" and came back with this...

"Complex Games is a leading mobile game development studio with a strong expertise in free-to-play game design and monetization, with over 11 years of proven experience creating & delivering top-selling, award-winning mobile games for some of the world’s largest game publishers and entertainment brands."

Which kind of immediately took the wind out of my sails, I hope I'm wrong and this game turns out to be awesome, but the above text doesn't bode well...

Wonder if that means he'll be handling the FMV within the game itself.

It depends on the style they use in the game for the cutscenes. If they decide to use 3D animation for the cutscenes then there is certainly a good chance, as he would have developed the assets for the 3D renderings, and it's clearly within his expertise in the animation, scene framing etc.

Looking back at his Astartes Project, GW certainly would have noticed he was interested and very much capable in animating WH40K Psykers and the Inquisition.

How fitting for a fan of the firstborn SM design, for one of his first official GW projects to be working on the only SM Chapter that is still completely composed of firstborn SM.

To think, how tanky, lethal and badass he made Power-armoured marines  using of combat knives in his Astartes Project was...now imagine what he could do animating battle scenes with Terminators, Nemesis Force Halberds and Psyker powers all in one...!

Without wishing to sound crude: please, I can only get so excited!  The Grey Knights in that teaser do look absolutely incredible though.  Amusingly, just after I watched the Sisters VR trailer, I did wonder why no one had done a Deathwing-style FPS for the Grey Knights.  It's not quite the same, but I'll take it!

In all honesty though, this is one of the few in the entire showcase that I really liked the feel of on first blush.  Turn-based squad-based tactical game had me excited, but I'm trying to work out how they're going to do it.  Will it be more X-Com than Mechanicus, or something else?  My guess is that it might bear a resemblance to Storm Ground, the AoS game.  An ADB story could definitely be good, and at least we shouldn't have any backflipping Hammer-armed captains...

I had a bit of a look at Complex Games via the Wayback Machine.  Nearly all of their games have been FTP mobile stuff, including Horus Heresy: Drop Assault...  And they seem to mostly be on their bespoke engine/Unity elements.  This does give me some trepidation now.  However, so far Daemonhunters has only been announced for Steam and Epic so far, which gives me a ray of hope.

Edit Also, luckily, the vibe is very single-player, so it doesn't sound like the sort of fodder that you get in most mobile FTP games.

I miss the belt fed storm bolters. Reminds me of the pewter models. They were more reasonably sized, and were belt fed. Not these stupid incredibly blocky things they have now, with the stubby magazine capacity of maybe 4 rounds lol.

"Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment"

Forge Your Champions

Grey Knights are humanity’s greatest weapon. A secretive yet supremely powerful chapter of Space Marines sworn to eradicate corruption, these legendary Daemonhunters are dedicated to combating the minions of Chaos. Lead your own personalised squad against a galaxy-wide plot to infect worlds with a cosmic plague, The Bloom.

Plan Your Strategy

Master a turn-based tactical game full of satisfyingly strategic action. Choose powerful classes, wield incredible weapons, use environments to your advantage, and target specific enemy weak points to hinder the advance of an ever-evolving and mutating threat.

I'm worried that this will be some form of rubbish MOBA with preset characters and loadouts and zero RPG element, instead of the XP gaining, equipment changing permadeath that characterised the original Chaos Gate.

So you'll push a wave against an opposing human player to destroy their base with your one unit in real time? That's what a Moba is and the quote you used doesn't sound anything like that.
