Kill-Team New Edition Box

The article also mentioned the core book going on pre-order next week. I guess the box as well, at least I hope so!

It didn't I'm afraid... (Emphasis is mine.)

"...you’ll have to pick up the Kill Team: Core Book when it arrives for pre-order next MONTH to discover all of the juicy new rules..."

Pretty sure it said “week” before, but I guess I was mistaken (or they changed it). Can’t imagine mixing up week and month, but it says month now, so apologies.

When I saw the article when it first went up it also said month. Maybe orky optimism will make it week

It definitely said next MONTH, but to be fair to you August will have started already by the time the next preorders get revealed so you could still end up being right!

Very interesting tidbit from the bottom of the article today, bolded for emphasis:

Many more tactical choices are ahead of you before the mission gets underway – such as setting up additional barricades and choosing extra equipment for your operatives – but you’ll have to pick up the Kill Team: Core Book when it arrives for pre-order next month to discover all of the juicy new rules.

It looks like the baricades in the starter box are going to be player-placed terrain. It'll be interesting to see the extent of that system

Oh, nice catch there!

The barricades really don’t seem to fit into the Orky setting of the boxed terrain. I was wondering about that during the launch stream already since it looks very clean and imperial in design, but didn’t put any further thought into it…

Guess at some point the custodes KT box will come with two models and some scatter terrain

Not a whole heck of a lot of information in this article- disappointing since this is the thing I'm most curious about. From the pics of the tracking sheets, it looks like you can get equipment assets for the unit and upgrades for the stronghold, so that's something. They didn't give us any examples of how those upgrades work...

Still, I'm intrigued. I'm always curious about crossover from KT to 40K, and I wonder how similar KT's narrative content will be to that in Crusade.

What I'm actually hoping is that the BSF models are rereleased as Kill Teams, because I could fill some of the holes in my collection. I'd totally buy another Man of Iron; I'd love another unit of Star Striders, I'd take a second Zoat. My dream is that the rerelease the Ambull for KT- I'm still choked that it was gone before it went to Last Chance to Buy.

If they just put this stuff in the compendium, we might not see the models rereleased.

I agree. I’d love to be able to use those models in Kill Team. I’d add that the Slaves to Darkness would also be a good Kill Team to release.

They might look at re-releasing the Rogue Trader crew with some updated rules in the box, and probably do something similar for Slaves to Darkness and any other mini-releases from the past few years.

The Elucidian Starstriders and the Gellerpox Mutants from the RT expansion would be nice additions to the KT game and the cultists from BSF too

I don't know about the BSF adventurers sprues though cause they are a mix and match of various factions

Yeah, they'd have to be thematically mixed- which is hard. Pious+ Taddeus + Gotfrett really works... but then it needs more; interestingly, Knosso would fit as well with this group as she does with the Striders. That's still only four models- you could throw in 3 flagellants or whatever to round out the box.

Daedalosus goes with the servitor and the Man of Iron, and you could round that group out with a couple skitarii or a a few more servitors.

If you put Janus and Murad in the box with Elucia and the Striders, you can set up a "Pick on Rogue Trader" and the other models are that Trader's crew, rather than being restricted to Starstriders.

I would LOVE to see Amallyn in a box with a new plastic Illic and new plastic rangers.

Traitor guard + Traitor Commissar + Traitor Ogryn is a super hot team.

A Zoat kill team- picture a box of 3 with other poses and unit upgrade.

Sidenote: I want abhuman Kill Teams. Like, a grizzled Squat bounty hunter with his Ogrynn side kick and a handfull of rattling snipers.

Dont the two batches of explorers make up respective rogue trader crews effectively? Certainly the second group does and the ones in the original box do with absolutely minimal updating. Similarly the hostiles do too, either the BL warband (I forget the name) or the drones as a BF "warband"  the only thing without an easy box is the Zoat and i feel thats pretty deliberate :D

The problem of the two adventurers sprues from BSF is that they are a bunch of characters (leader and specialists) without any kind of troop whole the two from RT both have a hero level leader instead of a sergeant level one

Theyll probably bring characters back soon enough, they are still human heroes too so its not as overwhelmning as some other races due to squishyness. The new edition does seem to support 100% specialist teams or near enough too so they may just end up being small elite teams like say Custodes. That or the Rogue trader troops from the Starstriders get rebadged as "generic" Rogue trader troopers as one fire team and the other is the various weird specialists?

It seems from what I've seen that this new rule set would scale for commander type profiles very easily compared to the current edition.  I sure hope they are at least coming down the pike if not in the core book.

Yeah, it could just be another fire team they could add on. To balance the varying power levels of the commanders they could even attach a retinue to some of the weaker ones

Next week's pre-orders are the GK/TS battle box and their Codices: https://www.warhammer-community.com/2021/08/01/sunday-preview-thousand-sons-and-grey-knights-galore/

I wouldn't be surprised if the Kill Team set doesn't go up on pre-order for another two weeks (so 21st, released 28th) - I can't see them doing 3 weeks of 40k related releases in a row. I'd be happy to be proven wrong, however..! :D

A new How to Paint video just went up. The topic? Battle Ready Ork Kommandos. My guess is the next video will either be a Battle Ready Death Korps of Krieg video or a Parade Ready Ork Kommando video. Either way, it seems like the Kill Team release is close to hand. https://youtu.be/TVKkbzofKQM
