Amazing interview, as expected from Track of Words: https://www.trackofwords.com/2022/09/07/author-spotlight-steven-b-fischer/

I truly wish GW/BL put a fraction of Michael's effort and did something similar on their website.

I'm immediately more interested in the novel and Steven's enthusiasm sold me the book. The book I wasn't originally planning to get.

This wasn't at all on my radar until now but I have to agree, that interview sold me. This man clearly gets Grimdark.

Regarding the new Eisenhorn Omnibus, they did The Funny, btw. Remember the Chronology from The Magos & The Casefiles? They kept it in the omnibus. A timeline that includes all the stories they didn't include.

...and unlike the Magos and many of their omnibus releases, there's not even an introduction by the author. Heck, The Magos even had a page at the start with a suggested reading order, which also marked stories not included. Nothing of that here.

I had an interesting chat in my local GW the other day. Not somewhere I’m in very often but if I’m passing I pop in for a look.

I was really surprised to see the BL shelves completely empty, not one book. The helpful staff member told me they are completely redoing how BL is sold and marketed. They will only stock in store, what he called core books. He wasn’t sure what these were going to be, probably first few heresy books, some battle books, eisenhorn that sort. What I would call classic books. Everything else will go online.
Must say I’m not sure what the point is in stocking the first few heresy books. It’s unlikely anyone will read the whole series now without the hype of constant releases but even if they wanted to they won’t be able to get them apart from on eBay.

I said to the guy that reading BL was becoming all but impossible due to the low production volumes. He acknowledged that, he obviously has had several people complain about the same issue. He said the only thing they could offer was advise to be online on Saturdays at 10am……. I find it all very weird.

What on earth is going on?  It’s not like there are any alternatives either - you can’t pop into an independent retailer to buy BL books as they have even less than Warhammer stores.

For those who visit WHW, you will also have noted a large reduction in shelf space devoted to BL in the last year or so.

A managed decline?

My best guess they're afraid of having books sit in a warehouse and take up space. Hence the ridiculously small Print runs. And/or BL management being incompetent.

Really glad you enjoyed the interview! Witchbringer sounds good, doesn't it?! I'm hoping to chat to Steven about it in a little more detail, so if you have any burning questions about the book just let me know (on here on in a DM) and I'll see what I can do.

Being afraid of stock pileups makes it pretty obvious how little confidence they actually have in their authors moving sales, doesn't it?

Multiple cancelled series indicates that it's a sound yes.

So, I was hoping for something massive for the Xmas's BL release and I am quite disappointed.

I was dreaming about the Emperor's Spears volume second, or some amazing edition.

Two anthologies one for 30k and one for 40k and a red good novel is something meh, for me.

Usually the big holiday stuff is announced together around Nov 15

So there is a chance of a few holiday stuff popping up still I think

Lots of releases in this weeks pre-order, with an AM focus.   https://www.warhammer-community.com/2022/11/06/sunday-preview-cadia-stands-again-while-da-goff-rocker-tunes-up/?utm_source=CUSTOMERS&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=GW_6th_November_Preview_ENG_&utm_content=&utm_term=

Great next that Battle for the Fang is now getting an audio release!  Can’t wait for that!  And also delighted that the Cadian Blood SE will have an audio release too!  I think that’ll be ADB’s entire novel collection in audio form, save for The Emperors Gift (which surely will get a SE/audio at some point too?)

Which just seems nonsensical. I go back to Vaults of Terra for example. In no way should Wraight be seen as a 'risk'. Its the same kind of idiocy we saw out of GW in the early 2000's where they were afraid to do anything but release another Vanilla Marines kit.

While they are cutting corners on print run's they are strangling the success of less established authors as well.

If someone from BL reads this, RELEASE THE BOOKS TO THE PUBLIC SO WE CAN BUY THEM AT STORES.

Hmm what about, is there a time/hour when GW updates their books to be sold? It's like every monday or it's random ?

Depending on you zone ( US, UK, EU, ETC) there is a set time ( 12 my local for instance) every saturday that things go up for order. They usually got up 3-5 mins before the official sale time. If a item is in high demand it can easily sale out BEFORE the official sale time. And well before GW tell its customers to go and order it.

Black Library items go on pre-order every Saturday. Time depends on your time zone. For example, it's always 10 AM in the UK. (that's official time, the books are always available 5 minutes earlier and those 5 minutes can make a difference whether you're getting the book or not.

You can check https://www.warhammer-community.com/blacklibrarycomingsoon/ official Comin Soon section what's coming up in the upcoming months. Unfortunately, the section is completely useless because it doesn't tell you which Saturday the specific book is coming out and half the time the upcoming books never even make it to the Coming Soon section so feel free to completely ignore it.

The best way to check what's going to be available for the next Saturday is here: https://www.warhammer-community.com/

Every Sunday there's an articled called "Sunday Preview". It shows all items available for pre-order next Saturday. For example here you can see what's coming out on 12th : https://www.warhammer-community.com/2022/11/06/sunday-preview-cadia-stands-again-while-da-goff-rocker-tunes-up/

They go live in the pre-order section of the GW website on saturday morning 09.55 (UK time).  What time zone are you in and we can give you a more accurate time.

Pssst, the advent shorts appear to be on fnac already. The big surprise? FEHERVARI!

No real info, apart from the title "Aria Arcana", the cover and

Quote

An Angels Resplendent Short Story

READ IT BECAUSE

Peter Fehervari’s Dark Coil continues to spiral.

THE STORY

A Dark Coil companion piece to the Adepta Sororitas novel Requiem Infernal.

The exact date is unknown.

Other stories include Sister Augusta, Ciaphas Cain, an Ufthak spinoff, a Cadian sniper story, an Amendera Kendel proto-inquisition story that isn't written by Swallow but Jude Reid instead, Annandale's Typhon story seems to be set before he returns to Mortarion's side, spreading his corruption a little more, and the White Scars story is set post-Last Hunt and has the Scars take revenge on the Red Corsairs. Probably the most we'll get from that plotline.

I am hoping that BL considers the primarch novels to be core, its kind of insane for example that I cant buy a copy of Alpharius' primarch novel anywhere and it came out in 2021. The only copies are the collectors edition on ebay which are selling for $250 minimum. Some of the regular edition primarch novels are selling for $100-200. I personally dont like kindle stuff or pdfs. Its kind of insane that i probably own and have read maybe 40+ Warhammer40k novels and i barely know anything about the setting or have bits and pieces missing which all tie into the siege novels so im like oh I know this is a reference here but I cant afford to buy that book so im generally going to ignore the Mortarion storyline and the Magnus story line and the whole unremembered Empire stuff and then theres the shattered legions story line and then really what im mostly focused on is ADBs stuff and the Indomitus storyline. Quite frankly I think the whole Horus Heresy was a mess and its really retarded when you go on ebay and you find all these weird short stories and limited edition prints that are critical to the main storyline like the Aurelian novella. See really the thing is I love to read books, I have limited time  so im selective of what i read and I never expected black library to go out of print to the point that I am now buying books just to have them because I do not want the prices to skyrocket. I also run into the scenario where i am also tempted to sell some of my books but I also want to keep them for reference and fond memories. I cant look at a shelf of :cuss:ing pdfs or a kindle and be reminded of reading that book or think of if I want to re-read it. I think creating and arranging a collection of books is a very personal work of art/hobby. I think  there is something sacred about books and reading a :cuss:ing kindle or pdf does not compare to being able to hold a good book and flip the pages of something you are absolutely enamored with to the point you are struggling to stay awake in order to finish it.

My recent quest has me creating a collection of all of ADBs collectors editions/hardbacks. With this upcoming saturday I will almost be there. Then I will create a ritual altar to Aaron Dembski-Bowden and send him psychic messages to release Spears 2 and Black Legion 3. I hope he also writes Horus' primarch novel and gives Khayon a cameo.

Id also like to say I have crippling depression because I still remember reading battle for the abyss.
