Let's have some fun speculations!

DoF book 5

HH Character book 4

40K character book 5

Watchers of the Throne 3 (confirmed by Wraight to have been already finished)

Black Legion 3

The End and the Death vol 2 cover art?

SoT anthology?

Vottan novel

Plus random exciting novels!

Wraight deleted his Twitter, but last I saw he said Watchers was a few years out. Hope I’m wrong but I’d be very surprised if he’s finished it.

Just checked and ... you're right, he has deleted it!  How strange.  I hope something bad hasn't happened. :/

I'm pretty sure he confirmed on twitter that he has finished it, but obviously I now have no way of proving it. :(

Like a lot of people, I think Wraight left when Elon took over. That’s when his Twitter went away.

I only remember because @Lord Nord also thought Watchers 3 was done. I linked Wraight’s tweet about it in the Dark City Thread if you want to see the convo, but obviously the tweet itself is no longer active.

My guess list is pretty much the same. But I'll laugh so bad, when none of this is revealed and instead we get new BL celebration minis and a bunch of limited editions for old books instead...

Perhaps my 'fun' speculation was a little too conservative and 'well, duh'.  So, you know what would be very welcome news?  New audio dramas being announced!  There doesn't even have to be that many - just a sign of life for the format.  Imagine how cool a SoT audio drama would be?

Perhaps we could see another BL imprint?  We have 'seasons' for Horror and Crime.  Well there are four seasons in the year, so perhaps two more imprints could be introduced to make this a quarterly thing?  Perhaps BL Xenos, where there are stories from a Xenos perspective released each year?  And perhaps a dedicated imprint for BL to release books for younger readers, a bit like the Adventures books that they released a year or so ago?

A little bit of info about the preview: https://www.warhammer-community.com/2022/11/28/join-us-on-sunday-for-the-warhammer-preview-online-black-library/

Nothing too interesting. They say

We’ll be showing you a whole load of brilliant upcoming books, along with words from some of your favourite Black Library authors and some blockbuster announcements to make this an unmissable event.

So it’ll likely be the same format as past years: author interviews, a model reveal for the BL celebration and then Kyme talking about what books are coming.

Oh if we want fun wild wishlisting then I can play...

Abnett = Pandaemonium

Abnett = Interceptor City

ADB = Black Legion 3

Wraight = WotT3

French = Horusian Wars 3

Ferharvari = a new novel

I would be happy as a grox in excrement

I'd even settle for a dark coil omnibus really.

I see they've put the usual amount of effort for Black Library into this article; I mean honestly, why even bother

That does indicate there is a lot coming, and also the statement of blockbuster announcements is interesting.

The usual disclaimers about the Warcom hype machine apply of course.

I’m sure there will be lots of interesting books there! In the past phrases like ‘blockbuster announcements’ have often translated to ‘don’t worry we’re not just talking books, there will be news for the models too’. But I hope you’re right and we get something unexpected like confirmation of a Scouring series or a series order for that Eisenhorn live action show (if that’s even in development still?).

They hype up all their reveals, but barely show anything. So, i dont expect anything till i see it.

Calling it now - Gorgias model to accompany a Vaults of Terra omnibus.

Of course, even though the sprue will only be the size of a postage stamp, GW will still insist on using resin.

While I love that idea, I think all the previous models have accompanied a new release (or a mix of new and old with The Magos). So obviously we’ll be getting Vaults of Terra 4 to go with Gorgias.

Edit: forgot Rann and Zephon from last year. My guess is they were supposed to accompany Echoes but the delay held things up.

As someone invested in BL fulfilling that "all HH in print eventually" promise, I was initially quite interested in the Heirs of the Emperor anthology they mention. Could this finally be them rounding up most of the non-print shorts left over?

Then I noticed the "27 stories including 5 not previously in print" mention. So 22 already in print. Guess how many short stories there are in the three existing Primarchs anthologies (Scions, Sons and Blood)? 22.

So yeah, it's probably just those 3 existing anthologies in one bigger anthology, plus 5 others. Which I would guess include "Stone and Iron" and "Embers of Extinction" (since the three other anthologies include 15 authors, and those two shorts are the only other "Primarchs" labelled ones with two other authors, to bring the total up to the stated 17).

And that doesn't even collect all the Primarch shorts, never mind all the other orphaned ones... *sigh*

This is my gripe with them. We, the loyal ffans buy individual books that can cost 37,5€ (12.5*3). Then to milk the cow the publish an omnibus PLUS something more for free at the cost of 15€. I always thought this was a wrong way to treat your loyalist fans. IF people thought as they  acting, "I will wait for the omnibus" most series would not sell at all.

But one thing is having a short story or novella that is present in X anthology. Another is "unseen, unpblished" stuff for this special omnibus or special edition. Imagine all the people who purchase gotrek novels 22€*3 and now a special edition for 125 (probably) and with a special never publish stuff. How these people feel? Without their purchase there wouldn't be a special edition... Enfin.. just a bit of a rant.

I’m really not sure what to expect from this one. Guesses:

Abnett - TEaTD and Interceptor City

Haley - Cawl 2

Wraight - DoF 5

Rath - sequel to TIaTD

Thorpe - Eldrad character novel

Andy Clark - Votann novel

McNeil - Horus Primarch novel

Jude Reid - Jenetia Krole character novel

As much as I want Thorpe to write a third Ynnari book or more Phoenix Lord's, I'm pretty sure BL will burn down first before that happens.

Cawl 2 would be a very nice surprise though.

I sadly agree about the future prospects of stand-alone Eldar novels/series, but I’m talking about a ‘character novel’ - like Ghazghkull, Huron, Helbrecht and Shadowsun have all recently received.

The word/rumor about the Ynnari series is that it was cancelled due to sales not meeting expectations.

There's been little other Eldar-featured work in the BL catalogue since. Hell, the main studio seems to have put the Ynnari arc on permanent hiatus what with one of their key mcguffins of plot advancement being on lockdown in Slaanesh's palace.

For whatever reason, there seems to be some kind of self-perpetuating cycle at BL relating to Eldar works, sales, and the lack thereof feeding one another.

I think the big issue with the Ynnari - aside from being sabotaged by a difficult to please factional fanbase - was that their books are an introduction to the faction, not a power fantasy or something with finality. They show us the main characters of the faction, explore their general objectives and beliefs, and present them warts and all to go forward into the future. For me, that was the really interesting stuff: exploring the faction, their history, the perspectives that change and get lost over that huge span of time. Are they right? Are they wrong? We don't know, but they're approaching things from a new angle. The 'old ways' got them into this mess, and maybe it's time to try something different. It was fresh! It was exciting! But it wasn't the Eldar people wanted, so it was attacked by the people who ordinarily would be the ones championing it. A shame.
