Varn:

"Many thanks. The Signpost next to the fork got blown down by the storm." Varn looked around.

He pointed towards the ravine. "Have you a friend with you? Best be careful of the ravine, could be a bad drop."

Varn

The figure on the Woldquad waves in acknowledgment but does not come any closer while you wait the others. As David Rounds the corner the foglight illuminates the scene a bit more. What you had thought to be the figure to the right could just have been a small tree.

More concerning is the figure next to the Wolfquad rider, with the David’s light behind you the figure is full illuminated. Kneeling on one knee to steady himself the stranger was armed with a RPG launcher that was aimed right at Goliath.

The others have not seen it yet, and infact from David’s engine sound you know they are slowing down, most likely to let you get back on now that you have had confirmation that this is the right road.

You try and shout a warning but can’t even get the breath to warn them when a Loud Hailer resounds from the Fog, its source uncertain.

++Halt, turn of your engines and step out of the vehicle hands in the air.++

Narrative Time Ends

Structure Time begins, please role Initiative.

Varn is not surprised as he has spotted the Bandit with the RPG, however he cannot warn the others until his turn.

The others, in David are all Surprised, so will lose their first turn unless Varn’s turn is before them and he warned the others.

The Fog imposes a -10 to hit with ranged attacks at opponents more than 4m away.

David is currently moving at half tactical speed as Kazimir had been slowing down to pick up Varn.

One hidden Bandit spotted Varn before he called out (i.e. he succeeded in the opposed Awareness test earlier) and has had time to take proper aim at Varn – Varn does not know this, this is for Player clarity.

Map, unfortunately I could not get gridlines to work, so distance will be eyeballed by me (on the much larger version I have offline). Tree, Road, stream and scrub/busses  (and ravine edge/slope) should be self-explanatory.  David is Grey, Players Blue, Hostile Read, the larger oblong is the Wolfquad, the figure beside it the RPG holder.

Make your plans in OCC and ask any other questions you may have. Once I have everybody’s Initiative (or 48 ish from now in case people are away, in which case autopilot will do its best)) I’ll start round one.

Kazimir:

++Coming upon your position, Scout. Way clear? ++ Kazimir spoke over the Vox, as he brought up David rounding the corner of the last bend. That was when he saw the scene unfolding of extreme danger to the David which was a convert from a combat vehicle. Quickly Adrenaline rushed through what was left of his veins and the appropriate responses through the circuitry. His body got rebuilt for strength, and not necessarily for speed, but he still had the skill and thought processes of a soldier. His mind went through the scenarios of what would happen if he opened it up, stopped, or swerved and none of the options were great. The announcement of cutting off the engines meant bandits. Likely they would hold their fire until they reacted just to be able to get their goods. On this road swerving maneuvers were limited between trees and steep terrain. Their best bet would be to stop and then engaged as a full force outside the David. Acceleration might make the first shot miss but that is a chance move that doesn't have a great probability. With the fog those in the back might be able to sneak their way into better positions. All these thoughts rush through his trained mind. (No actual moves, not taking a turn yet just some mental thoughts to make things look cool. )

Helene

++Aaargh Pee Gee!!!++ Helene heard the Scout yelling over the vox.

Having not quite understood what he said due to a combination of his dialect and his hurried words, she leans towards the entrance to the drivers compartment to hear him better as she voices her confusion.

”I’m sorry, are what?”

Bandit on Wolfquad

The figure stood in his sadle again, one arm waving for you to comply with the shouted order. You can just about see a Autogun in his other hand.

“Line up over there, hands in the air.” He shouts, indicating the side of the road next to the forest. Then he takes up his gun in both hands.

Action Aim

Next Varn

As you can warn the others now, nobody will be surprised by the time it is their turn.

Players, you may want to stratagise in OCC as 5 of you are in the Goliath. You are free to play this encounter how you want, but I see two main possibilities (aside from surrender), one, get out and fight, two, pick up Varn and try to make a run, while you are in David you are safe from most small arms fire after all.

Edited by Trokair

Varn:

"Ambush" he yelled as shoots his Autogun at the RPG wielder and the Wolfquad Rider.

The Bandit quickly sits down again, standing had left him exposed.

As he is nolonger standing any hit to leg or body will hit the Wolfquad instead, which as an armour rating of 11.

Unseen Bandi(s) Alpha

Move

As the shooting starts it quickly becomes clear that you will not comply with their order. From the forest you can hear movement but cannot discern quite from where.

Kazimir next

Kazimir:

Kazimir grunts as he accelerates to Tactical speed for a very short bit and then suddenly stops as gunfire reigns from Varn.  Hopping out Kazimir tries to make a snapshot between the David and the door using it as a shield from return fire, to cover Varn so he could retreat. His sword on his back giving him cover from most angles of attack. Instead, he stumbles a bit as he gets out and falls out of position slightly still covered by the door. His mind going through various scenarios and knows there must be more than the two they see. His eyes quickly glance to the Treeline but right now the RPG and Wolfquad are the greatest threats. Hopefully they have time to take them out.  His eyes scan for best paths forward to provide cover.

Aria

The transport lurched to a stop as warnings rang out across the vox system and shots flashed back and forth ahead of the group.  Standing in the top hatch Aria quickly traced the main target of the fire to a man hunched down with some kind of shoulder-weapon and brought up her own rifle against him, bracing it against the goliaths roof.

Whoever they were they had let David get too close and denied themselves the cover of the fog as at this distance it offered next to no concealment. A single lethal shot rang out.

Half action Aim, half action Fire at the guy with the RPG

BS 35 -10(fog) +10(range) +10(aim) +10(accurate) = 55  - roll = 2 = hit with 5 extra DoS

Damage to right arm = 1+9+3+3 = 16 damage, Pen 0

(shot is silenced, Aria will stay in what cover she can within the hatch)

Technically Unseen Bandit(s) Beta would have gone after Kazimir, but as it will make no difference to Aria’s action I’ll just do them now.

Unseen Bandit(s) Beta

Move

Over the noise of battle you can just about hear the rumble of several engines. Two further Wolfquads round the corner, intending to cut off your retreat. Their lights mark out there position despite the fog.

Unseen Bandit(s) Beta is now Wolfquad Bandit Beta1+2 and Wolfquad Bandit Beta3+4.

Each Wolfquad has one rider (1 and 3) and one passenger (2 and 4) holding onto a makeshift seats.

@A.T./Aria, technically there is an additional -10 to hit as you are on David and it moved, but it won’t affect the result here. Please confirm how you arrived at that damage role as to my understanding a hunting rifle is 1d10 + 3 and you appear to have 3d10+3.  Edit: Solved, Errata had the answer.

Bandit with RPG, Tb3 + Armour 3 leaves 10 damage.

Bandit with RPG sufferes Suden Death.

Ravia next

Helene

Gunfire! Shouting! The sound of rapidly approaching vehicles! This was it! The pilgrims of the expedition were under attack, and it was Helenes duty, nay, her honour to repel them! She’d just have to get close enough to the scoundrels to introduce her Chainsword to their vital organs, something which would be easier said than done, but it was an obstacle she’d gladly face.

Standing up swiftly, she rushes towards the rear exit hatch, hoping to intercept the attackers approaching from behind.

Aria

Unable to clearly mark the attackers in the trees and seeing the wolfquads close on Helene Aria swung her weapon around bringing it to bear on the driver of the closest quad as it swept past the goliath. As the driver swerved to avoid Helenes sword the vehicles speed briefly dropped leaving him exposed and at this range an easy target.

Fed up with trying to outshoot these bandits who have position and rifles to his pistol switches tactics. Holstering his pistol, he switches to the sword on his back and Charged the nearest Wolfquad. Seeing him for a moment as he swerved to avoid Helene, was the perfect time to strike while he was distracted. Kazimir unleashed an inhuman mechanical roar as he brought his massive sword to bare bringing it to the front of him holding it point down blocking his body from view for the most part as he tilted his position forward shoulder pointed at his target. He was in position to swing up if he got close enough but for now his sword was a shield from return fire.
