Exalted Champion

This thread is only for tactics for Exalted Champion, not for pictures, there are other places for that.

How to best use Exalted Champion?

• Wargear?
• Mark?
• Legion?
• Which stratagems are worth throwing out?
• Any solid unit combos?

I use mine quite extensively.  If I'm running a really powerful non-jump CC brick out of Khorne Chosen or Berzerkers, I'll usually keep a bare Exalted Champion and/or a Lord with them to really smash home with the rerolls.

 

I aslo have a particular sniper build for my Alpha Legion that I refer to as the Exalted Sniper.  Because the bolter half of his stock combimelta is indeed listed as a bolt weapon in the codex, I can apply the Hydra's Teeth to that half of the weapon.  Add the Headhunter Warlord Trait, and that's a 24" ignores-LOS, one shot, auto-hitting, rerolling all wounds, S6 AP2 D3, ignores invulnerable saves shot that causes a MW on a wound-roll of 6. . . and if you add Mark of Slaanesh, you can play the Murderous Perfection stratagem to auto-6 that wound roll.  If you want to get really froggy, toss Daemon Shells on there (it's still a bolt weapon!) to extend the range to 30" and bump the AP to 3.  I play-tested this most extensively when Armor of Contempt was still in play and it was actually fairly disappointing, but without that 1-point swing in the AP it's actually pretty handy against Marine support characters now.

 

I usually keep this guy in the forward parts of my backfield, within the save range of a Noctilith Crown, and close enough to my Havocs squads to provide his reroll aura for them.  The lascannon Havocs especially appreciate the boost.
