The Fractured, desert Lions, and more!

Long time no see!

 

Slowly getting back on the hobby horse. Was encoueaged by some friends to start posting again. I’ll slowly add pics of my various works over time here. 
 

first up, The Fractured! 
I’ve got a concept in mind of fleshing out chapters with little to no information. Both loyalist and traitors! First group will be the former chapter the Justicars, now the Fractured, who took part in the hopeless endeavor known as the abyssal crusade, and came out… worse for ware. 
for the lore buffs I’ll have more to come but for now just a tease!

thank you! I used bits of antenna bases, various scopes, and silencers to bulk out the bodies of the bolt rifles. I’m going for the raptors/alpha legion infiltrator vibe for this small “army”

thank you so much! Idk how the pistols fit in their holsters, we’ll just have to say they’re screw ons i guess

here is the final member of the squad so far! Made an attempt at a camo cloak, not sure how i feel about the lightning effect, could probably do with some tweaking…

here’s the armor color recipe i used!

 

Prime gray

Armor

Grey knights steel heavy drybrush

Filter wash 50:50 water and akhelian green

Recess wash nuln oil

Drybrush highlight zenithal grey knights steel

Upper upper zenithal wash 50:50 water and mortarian grime 

 

the trim is just canoptek alloy with an agrax earthshade watered down wash

update for tonight, a wip of the next squad of the fractured, a breacher assault squad, Using more helms from the same shop. As well as a little squad shot of the finished guys so far!

 

last bit for tonight is the test mini for the desert lions. A loyalist space marine chapter with a tiny bit of lore that’s really fun to base an army around. They have a collection of mechanicus automata that have been officially inducted as honorary members into the chapter, and were often used for scouting/ support roles by the chapter. I’m excited to start fleshing out this second faction!

The cloth of the Fractured is really well painted, as are the scratches and wear on the metal of the heavy weapon.

The Desert Lions marine has such a vibrant color scheme, nicely done! Can't wait to see the breachers painted up, they have some pretty interesting helmets as well. I am going to have to check out that etsy store, thanks for the name!

no new painting pics yet, got distracted working on some terrain… will post pics later in the week if y’all are interested in that. Got a bit of a city brewing!

butttt i did get my hands on some cool stuff! I got 4 more thallaxi to build and grabbed the imperial fist box set with all the heavy intercessors to start the desert lions properly (build pending). If anyone has any good sources for custom shoulder pads lemme know! I have a base idea for the chapter symbol i’ll add here as well.

 

i’ll start uploading my first draft of lore for both loyalist and heretic astartes soon. Just glorified fan fic tbh. A fun writing excercise between my DND prep writing and school lol.

Wow…. Been a hot minute! But life finds a way I suppose! Let’s get right to it then:

fwip of my ballistus, just have a stripe to place on his right shoulder to break up the green/gray. Then some more fiddling with free hand.

 

arrow on the knee is a little rough, any ideas on how to make cleaner free hand? Biggest fight I think is finding the best ratio to thin before layering the colors on…

what do y’all think?! My freehand needs development still. But doodling is fun so no biggie.

The free hand looks great! Nice job on the weathering as well and I like that you have different marks of helmets for them as well, makes each one unique. Axe guy is my favorite.

he’s mine too i need to find good ways to convert the legs of marines to have older marks of armor, especially mk3 or 6, just to break up the mk10 a bit more.

if anyone has cybernetic bits recommendations that could help too!

as always, thanks for lookin at my dwindling pile of shame. these are just tabletop quality as a goal so that I can crush my goal of 2k by end of year (of both marines and nids)

Those are some great looking terminators! Nice mud effects and the freehand is also great!  For cybernetics I have seen people use bits from the Adeptus Titanicus knights and I know there are 3rd party groups that make them but I am having trouble remembering them off the top of my head.
