Blimey, I've really neglected this plog over the last four months, haven't I?!  Well, fear not, for I have still been painting - in fact, I've had my head down and got another couple of squads done

Firstly, I finished the Jump Pack Assault Intercessors and the Captain:

I finished these at the end of September/start of October, and got straight into the next squads for this army - two more Intercessor Squads, plus a Chaplain.

The Intercessors are 7th Company (Purple Shoulder trims), whilst the Chaplain is 4th Company (to go with the first batch of Marines I painted for this army, when I started it over two years ago! )

I'll be painting more Ashen Sentinels in the new year - I'll post details over in my blog in due course; in the meantime, enjoy these pictures, and happy new year all!

These came out really well! I really like the slight skin color distortion (not sure if that is the word I am looking for but it is close) by the bionics on the Chaplain. The Assault Intercessors with jump packs and Captain came out great. Also happy to see the purple trim come back on the standard Intercessors. Great work all around! Happy New Year!

Those guys are all fantastic and the face (and tabard) on the Chaplain are particularly impressive.

Is the jump captain a slightly darker grey than the squaddies?  If so, that's a great idea to visually distinguish him from the squad, while still giving them a cohesive look.

Thank you @gaurdian31, @The Pounder, @Firedrake Cordova and @Dr_Ruminahui for your kind words

I painted him the same as the other Marines, so I'm presuming it's down to my photography set up making the picture darker  He's not meant to be different to the rest  Not that different, anyway

So here's how my 2026 is starting off:

I'm also (slowly :ermm:) building a Brutalis Dread - and head over to my blog for a little tease of what else is coming for this army :biggrin:

The Bruttalis Dread is one of my least favorite kits to build. It felt like there were a ton of tiny parts that didn't really need to be separate parts. I honestly at one point almost threw the thing I got so frustrated with it but I didn't because I didn't want all the previous hard work undone. Really don't like that kit, love the model though.

That is a great scheme, really like it! ... Brilliant work so far.

Thank you so much for your kind words, @calgar101

After procrastinating for over a week :whistling::laugh: I went back to the Brutalis and assembled the arms (the pose isn't set, as I need to file inside the shoulder connections where the arms slot in to allow for easier movement):

I'm also getting stuck into painting the current batch of Marines (spot the Librarian lurking in the background ).

Painting these Inceptors has reminded me of how much I didn't enjoy highlighting Gravis armour when I did the Heavy Intercessors  The good news is there are only six of these to do, not 10 like last time. The bad news is, I've got six Gravis armoured Marines to paint

I like the dynamic pose on the dreadnaught. But might be a pain for transport.

Thank you  Yeah I have wondered about it's stability, I may pin the standing foot, or add a bit of tactical wreckage to go under the other foot. I've a carry case with magnetic trays for this army, so long as I can make it a little more stable, I'm confident it'll survived being taken on the road for games

couldn't agree more, the primaris range is great in terms of looks, but for painting, only the basic tacticus armor doesn't feel like a chore... I still have 5 heavy intercessors (was planning on a squad of 10 but finally settled on just the 5...) and already dread all the edges... same goes for phobos marines, but luckily, I only have 4 more to paint and don't plan on adding more.

I'm sure yours will look great though ! as all their predecessors ! keep up the great work on your marines

Quick update - painting wise, the armour panels are all done (through gritted teeth on the part of the Gravis armoured Inceptors :whistling:), and the undersuit, so starting the other details - shoulder pads first. PCIMG_2026-01-27_21-12-21_edit_328660205885264.thumb.jpg.782f7999a5cc07089a8c6feed3408f38.jpg

I've also finished assembling the Brutalis - apart from sanding over where I filled some gaps. IMG_20260127_135416_edit_306851801703696.thumb.jpg.82946824c6d5b829f799ffcbfce9310a.jpg

The pics don't make it clear, but I used some diamond-stud patterned plasticard to give the base a bit of an industrial feel. Hopefully the weather will remain clear for a day or two this week so I can get this primed - I'd like to start painting it this weekend (or start of next week if not).

As always, I'm impressed with the speed and quality of your work. How many painted Sentines do you have now?

The pose and base of the Brutalis are great, too. However, it's a bit of a disgrace how much putty work you had to do. At the current prices, GW really should do better with their models. The mould lines and gaps are sometimes ridiculous. I used to think that this is normal but after trying some model planes from a couple of 'dedicated' (serious?) model companies (doing mostly real world military stuff), I'm quite annoyed with Warhammer plastics.

Thank you all for your kind words  I'm at (off the top of my head :sweat:) 66 Marines, the Redemptor and a Tank. Oh, and 10 Scouts

Absolutely agree with you - I think it makes it worse that this was the first run for this model (in the Strike Force Agastus set from a couple of years back), you can kind of justify/explain or maybe even tolerate it a little when it's kit that's been around for a while (potential for wear and slippage on the molds), but it is disappointing that you have to do quite a bit of gap filling in GW kits :ermm: I think that's one of the reason why nowadays I actually enjoy painting more than I do assembling miniatures, if I'm honest

That's a sizeable collection. And they're excellently painted, too.

In a way, that's good to hear ;) I mean to say is that I feel the same. Actually, I still have hobby-nightmares about assembling a Redemptor - it tired me out of my mind. That's also one of the reasons why I tend not to buy too much stuff as I used to and hunt for correctly-assembled models online. And on top of the problems with gaps and mould lines, there's the frankly ridiculous way GW splits miniatures on sprues - you know what I mean: a heal, shin and knee being one part, while a bit of purity seal, chain and front of the boot is another.

Being someone who got into Primaris as late as I have, I still find this design philosophy exotic and awkward. I miss the old days where you had legs+torso+arms separately. But that's a bit of an off-topic, sorry for that.

I could not agree more. I might be getting too old for the "Lego" philosophy where you hunt down a certain part through a whole pile of sprues (like digging through a pile of Legos when assembling something).

Well, it’s been a little while :sweat:but there hasn’t been a lot of progress to report, as basically I’ve been in a bit of a hobby slump, and didn’t have barely any motivation to do any painting if at all.

But I'm getting back to it - Call to Arms is imminent, and I’d like to take part in that (doing some Knights for a change :woot:); but first, I must finish the current batch of Marines I started back in January.

These Inceptors haven’t been the most fun models I’ve ever painted (doing the Heavy Intercessors made me realise I dislike painting Gravis armour ). I’m getting there though - latest step is doing the gun shields. I deliberated over how to do them for a while. Chapter colours? Company colours? But an idea kept coming back, and I increasingly found it hard to dismiss.

Because what better way to get your hobby motivation back after a slump period, than to subject yourself to the masochistic exercise that is painting hazard stripes? :laugh:

First picture is after the first pass - yeah, look closely, those stripes are a little wonky. But I had a plan to deal with that: chipping ) - here’s how they look now:

IMG_1015.thumb.jpeg.b27e9585a2062d65269ac6c9031d1bf3.jpeg

Never underestimate how chipping effects can make almost anything look better

So, can I get these done before CtA starts?  Let’s see…
