I wanted to see how this model would look like for my Death Guard, so I did a quick photoshop changing colors and helmet and adding a few details. I might create this IRL now!

I might shave off the Eyes of Horus and do a second as a Dark Angel. Do that and give him the sergeant helmet from the new Dark Angels upgrades, and it'll look pretty cool

Maybe wait for the Dark Angels mark 3 helmets we all know are coming and if it's anything like last time very soon. This model has so much potential.

Do it. I like this better than the new Preator and the Preator itself would prolly make for a better consul given the Scythe ruleswise.

I see where people are coming from with the "third party" comments. The plating on the chest and the top of the backpack both feel a bit off, and I suppose what doesn't help is that those things are on top of a "new" MKIII base design which really we're still getting used to. The overall look is quite far removed from the classic MKIII armour we have had up to now (or I suppose, up to the release of Fafnir Rann)

I wonder. I'd love to see new Mk III helmet upgrades, but I'd be kinda surprised to see them when they already made so many before. Some of the old upgrades were for different marks though, so maybe!

A round of helmets and shoulder pads for each legion when a new mark comes out is pretty much a given at this point. Cheap to make and help drive sales and are a source of steady releases in the months that nothing comes out in plastic. The roadmap says it all. I'm even pretty sure new mark 3 and 4 are coming before 2 and 5 in order to phase out the older parts. Although I wouldn't be surprised to see mark 5 come out in resin again for reasons.

there are definite design takes from the new mark 3 armour set , i wonder if the Traitor Praetor was made around the same time.

Given the different turnarounds he was probably completed months or even years after them :)

After after thinking a bit about it, the meteor symbol mentioned above really reminds me of the classic military symbol for the artillery/ordnance arm: https://ammochiefs.com/ordnance-insignia/

So this mini could be a good Siegebreaker with a mkVI nuncio-vox bit on top of its backpack:

Sorry for quoting myself, but I've just found that the "meteor" icon all over this mini has definitely appeared before as a symbol for explosive specialists like in the grenade launcher gunner from the old cadian command squad kit:

So it seems clear to me that this "Champion" was designed originally as a SoH Siege Breaker, or that at least that's the most fluffy way to use it.

The Praetors and Zephon were prototypes (Zephon for sure he has the old grenades and the proportions of a Chaos marine aside from the arms and his bodysuit is designed differently like it was done as one piece instead of a series of pancaked rings. The Preators share the larger proportions and same toe armour and bodysuit design but aren't as obvious due to lack of grenades.) for the new mk 6 can't say when they were created but it was def well before the mk6 kit and even Fafnir Rann. It's very clear the three of them were designed in an experimental stage but everything after them was not. Everything that's been shown after them has the same proportions and shared design elements that are clearly premade assets.

It's interesting to me cause you can see the evolution of the design and I have to wonder if the designers went with the slightly smaller design for lore reasons or to seperate the entire game from 40k's heroic scale. It was def a conscious decision to make the mark 6 mark 3 and Rann and recent characters the size they are.

Another theory I have is they were made around the same time as the Angels Tears and Dark Angels specialist units and the Preators and characters that were designed to be bigger but still in the old style of armour marks but by the main studio using their normal heroic design philosophy (CSM proportions with slightly larger characters like the huge Lord and Master of Possession etc.) well before the announcement the main studio would be taking over. The scale change is something that was definitely in the works for a pretty long time.

Woah woah... When was this announced?

It wasn't. With the sole exception of the splitting up and production of the plastic miniatures, everything is still designed, written or otherwise produced inside of the Specialist Games Design Team. Which are still an entirely distinct branch of the company from Citadel.

What is this for weirdness. They're finding out on the release day that they can't make enough of single character minis for a niche game?

At times it really feels like the wheels are coming off at GW.

All the produced models were in the same box and somebody poured some molten plastic over it

Im not sure its tied to their ongoing problems exactly, FW resin was pretty much entirely separate as i understood it? That said im not sure what would delay a resin release a couple of weeks!
