They are not smaller, if you compare them to Intercessors you can clearly see that the difference is in the base, these are using bigger bases hence they fill less of it and look smaller.

 

Not to mention that the perspective of those images is wacky, they have been taken from afar instead of up close like Belial and Asmodai.

After looking at it for a while, they seem to be wearing a modified version of Bladeguard MK X armor, you can see that specially well with the pauldrons.

So much modelled smoke and flame. I really don’t like that on models. 
 

nice range revamp though. Shame they did t take the opportunity to give us a Outrider kit with more options so the Ravenwing could be Primaris-ized.

I was a big naysayer on the storm bolter being Belial's but turns out I was quite wrong! He looks good but I'm sad he's lost his old banner which I was fond of, Azrael got I faithful recreation of his so I had assumed Belial would get the same treatment. I might try to transpose the old banner onto the new model. 

The companions are nice too, I like the nod to the 30k colours but I might go with the ol' dark green armour myself. I wasn't super keen on Asmodai before but I think he might look quite good next to these lads. Hoping we'll still some some regular DW termies or at least one more character, I'd love a Dark Angels specific ancient either on Terminator Armour or Tacticus.

I’m going to guess that those censors and icons on the backs of the companions will confer some type of bodyguard save or rule onto the leaders they are protecting. A kind of bladeguard durability bonus while not having the shields. 
 

If they’re just ablative wound swordsmen what would be the point?

In the same way that any melee unit is sword brethren, sure.

 

they have two handed swords and no shields, so they’re as much like sword brethren as black Templar sword brethren
