Reynard:

“Sincerest apologies, my Lady,” Reynard stepped forward with a courtly bow and a smile, “but I fear the fault is mine rather than the good Seneschal's. Reynard de Carabas von Graen, at your service.”

He quickly explained the nature of his hunt for information and what they had found so far. He concluded with another winning smile.

“If you can think of anything that might assist me, I would be greatly in your debt?”

Reynard:

Spoiler

GM OOC: That's true, since Han Solo shoots you first, and Hans Gruber shoots you after...

Cassie smiles, a little uncertain, flicking glances at Cheeky before blushing. Her free hand pushes a stray lock of hair from her face as she regards you. 'Of course, Von Graen, let's see what we can do.'

Recovering her hand, she claps them, calling instructions to the servitors and staff within, to plunge into the depths of the lore and grimoires of history to try and find a thread to pull on.

It is at this point, the general action alarm is sounded.

+All Hands, set Condition One, repeat set Condition One. Intruder Alert.+

A string of words and directions follow giving Malvolio's current location.

Reynard:

Quickdraw Bolt Pistol.

Without conscious thought, one of Reynard's bolt pistols was in his hand. Intruder alert? What the hell kind of intruder boarded a vessel at warp?

…poor choice of words there, old boy.

Maintaining his outward calm, he looked to the Seneschal and spoke softly.

“What's ‘Condition One’, Cheeky? And what's the quickest route from here to that location?”

He offered a friendly grin and wink at the librarian.

“Apologies my Lady Cassie, perhaps you would be willing to impress me with your wisdom at another time?"

Reynard:

Chekhov's face is hard. 'It means we're knee deep in :cuss:, old boy. Normally, Condition One is battle stations, but we can't go higher in the warp, so it gets repeated. Be a good man, though, and stop waving that in here? The stasis fields will make ricochets very unpleasant if we have any...collisions...'

He directs you to follow him out of the heavy door, and calls back.

'Seal it up Cassie, but keep working. It will take your mind off it.'

The door locks, and once clear, Chekhov taps his personal communicator to key into the ship-wide comms systems.

'There's a string of decklifts which will take us up, followed by a good run aft. If they're at the reactor, all hell could be breaking loose.'

Castinius

Intruder?

Castinius ran to the bridge, barking into his comm-bead for an armed rating squad to meet him there. The first thing to secure was the bridge, regardless of the intruder's current position or intent. Any intrusion could be a play for command of the ship and guarding the bridge is his first priority. Once it was secure, then he would join the hunt.

The Observation Gallery:

GM OOC: All Players are considered to be here unless specified.

Malvolio follows the blood trail to find the man who would be on watch, butchered, dragged from the point where he was ambushed. He has many defensive wounds, weapon railing form the dead-cord, a loop of cable or wire common to voidsmen tools or weapons to prevent loss in low gravity. The grip and his palm is bloodied, he died with it in hand, a testament to his rapid reaction.

Beyond is the plasma charger chamber, where the recombination of super-volatile photohydrogen and other exquisitely explosive fuel gasses are prepared before injection into the plasma flutes, and the main conflagration chamber itself. Locked behind a triple-hardened bulkhead door, the main engineerium floor is visible via the observation gallery window you currently stare through, at the fleeting figure of a lobotomised recreant. It's mouth slurring oil, the light of human panic in it's remaining, half-blind flesh eye, it flits from console to console, trapped inside a giant pinball machine, careening around, ripping and tearing. The shredded bodies of voidsmen lying at their posts, heavy wrenches thrust out in now-dead, almost pleading hands litter the room.

You cannot hear the voice, and the heavy metals have reduced even Malvolio's prodigious talent, but anyone with a hand against the glass can feel the vibrations from a vox emitter.

The servitor is screaming.

Reynard:

When he arrived, Reynard couldn't help but look at Restal and Kovac, who had reached the plasma chamber a few seconds before him.

The construct, while not physically identical, was in its sheer madness a stark reminder of the augmetic hordes that had invaded Damocles’ Halls of Judgement, and chased him and Lady Gwynne through the dark accessways. The blood spattered across the deck was likewise all too reminiscent of that horrific night.

Reynard raised an eyebrow towards Petrus. It was still a little odd to be able to gauge the crusader's reaction without the flat steel sallet covering his face.

“There's no way any… thing… could have birthed a copy and followed us aboard, is there?” he breathed softly so that only the other two men could hear his words.

Restal:

"The accursed xenos-tech brought on board and then spaced." Kerr Restal answered Von Graen's enquiry, his hands empty.

A flick of the wrists and his hands bore Carnodon's, red dot laser blinking.

"Do you see any brain jars?" Restal said as he walked to the bulkhead door.

The Gallery:

As you watch, there is no sign of the malefic modifications you have observed on Damocles. This is a common, if horrifically engineered, class of servitor.

As you ponder the intricacies, it crashes into a power conduit, which explodes in exceptional and spectacular fashion. Sparks erupt in a cascade of sheared metal and fleeting heat, and the servitor appears to be caught in blissful rapture as the room is filled with a fireball which blackens the armoured glass, no doubt sucking up all the air inside the immediate chamber.

An alarm sounds, and the doors open to stabilise airflow.

The room below is filled with billowing smoke, and the clanging of metal on metal. It's still alive in there.

Gentlemen:

Initiatives.

Petrus

Drawing his chainsword, Kovac glanced over at his comrades, offering them a tired smile.

“‘Tis fortunate that we are here then, is it not, Master Reynard?”

Sola

Well that was interesting. She tried to recall Rosenda Karpov’s face or anything about the Gunner’s Loading Mate. She was one of hers after all given the position held, but even in a heavily servitorised ship such as this the living crew where still a small city and for now Anastasia was drawing a blank.

She was about to ask Tavish for more detail when the alarm went off.

“More hitchhikers, that can’t be good. You safe enough here?"

"I better follow up before the alarm gives us all Tinitus.”

Spoiler

Not sure what test would be needed to recollect things like crew names/face and such but id assume Int.

Int: 36

D100: 55

Initiative I guess:  d10: 1 + 4 Ag = 5

++ NARRATIVE TIME ENDS ++

++ STRUCTURED TIME BEGINS ++

Initiative Order:

Spoiler

Castinius: 15

Rampant Servitor: 14

Restal: 12

Reynard: 10

Petrus: 8

Malvolio: 6

Sola: 5

GM Directions: You will start in the observation room, which is clear of smoke. The deck below however is filled with it, and only now is beginning to clear. It's reasonably tight in there, with consoles and cogitator banks which will provide cover (5 AP) on Chest and Legs. The Smoke cannot be seen through with anything other than thermal equipment or psychic means. Note that Flugs and Respirators will not function. Staying on the lower deck without SCBA will incur Hard (-20) Toughness Tests against Choking.

All BS and Per Tests are Hard (-20). All Psychic tests, due to the thickness of metal, and the proximity of a Gellar Field Conduit (yes, be careful what you shoot at - Misses will incur a random chance to hit this object) are also Hard (-20).

There is also a fire. The Fire is currently 3 x 3m in diameter, but will grow 1D10-2 per Round it is unattended. Damage Control Equipment is available, requiring a Full Action per Square Metre to douse the fire.

Players may retreat to the upper deck for safety at any time.

GM OOC: Queries and shouting in the OOC as usual.

Castinius

Smoke swirled around Castinius as he drew his power-saber and advanced.

"Beware smoke and fire, bring up the suppression gear!"

His voiced boomed out of his void armour's helmet. He was safe from the smoke, his armour's integrated rebreather having its own oxygen supply as well as his bionic lungs able to work on their own if needed. The others however, would need rebreathers to avoid damaging their bodies. The servitor was down here too, another danger ready to pounce.

Spoiler

Half Action - Ready power sword

Half Action - Move, 4m into smoke-filled area

Rampant Servitor:

At Castinius' bellow the screaming stops. Perhaps it is some remnant of programming, since Murder Servitors are slaved to either stalk or slaughter.  A clang of metal is absorbed by the roar of flames and sparking power cables which have snapped and snake across the panels, causing a racket of impromptu sizzle.

The starfarers will know the metal murderer will try to take them in ambush, in an odd game of felid-and-musid.

Full Action: Lurk

D100: Pass 2 DoS (Opposed Conceal Test)

Reynard:

Reynard hurried forwards, pulling the clear plastek mask of his rebreather from one of his deeper pockets and settling it over his face. That fire was going to spread fast unless someone started doing something about it.

He moved towards the stairs that descended into the thick smoke, following the hazy glow created by Castinius’ power blade, picking up one of the bright red fire suppressors full of fixed air as he went.

“Keep that bloody construct off my back,” he yelled at his former cell-mates as he unhooked the long hose and wide nozzle.

Actions: Presumably if it takes a Full Action to actually extinguish 1x1m of the fire, I can't do anything this Round, but hopefully I can at least get into position to start doing so in the next Round?

Restal:

Fire, the accursed flame. Killer of vessels in the void, its ability to flash through the life zones of a ship lie a rabid rat swarm.

The bulkhead had opened to protect the enginarium, so that was out.

Apart from the slow process of fighting it with extinguishers, there was a better option.

Expel the air to the void.

But they were in the Warp....

OOC: Yes, @Lysimachus, as per OOC Thread, that's fine.

OOC: @Machine God

Your idea is viable, since there is a console in the observation room which will allow venting of the smoke etc into unmanned and unoccupied areas of the ship, as per protocol in the event of warp travel - it has to go somewhere. However, this means the compartment will have to be sealed (Half Action Challenging (+0) Tech Use Test), and will take one Round to evacuate once sealed. Failure by 4+ DoF will result in unforeseen consequences, as usual.

Anyone inside the engine bay when it's sealed and evacuated will be be exposed to vacuum unless wearing a vac-suit. Breather helmets will keep them alive, and it won't be cold, but negative pressure effects will apply. It will then take one Round to unseal the compartment for normal environment to re-establish.

Restal:

So it was an idea. Sometimes things get stuck in ones head and are hard to shift.

Restal re-holstered his man-killers as he hurried over to the console. Madly he began flicking switches, mashing buttons and turning wheels.

(Half Action)Holster Pistols.

(Half Action)Initiate Fire Venting. INT 33 +0 (Tech Use) +0 (Challenging Difficulty) = 33. Result: 75, Failure 4DoF

Perhaps he should have shouted a warning?
