I would be interested to know what the rules will be like for a game like this.

I never played the video game.

Q. What tyoe of game is  dark tide for those who played it?

I haven’t played it but I have played Vermintide. It’s a co-op horde shooter. Left 4 Dead is one of the notable examples of the genre

I like that GW continues to produce little minigames with unique combinations of models, and I like the idea of following a licensed product... But unfortunately I have no need for this one.  It's too bad they didn't give the Ogryn an upgrade sprue.

Who knows, maybe the next one will be a better fit for me. I was certainly ecstatic to get a second chance at an Ambull with Combat Arena.

It's an FPS co-op as @sitnam said. You can choose between soldier, ogryn, psiker and preacher.

You can customise your char and you have a talent tree for your style of playing.

You fight againts heretic scum, mostly nurgle infected, hordes of them with some specialist in them.

The maps are gorgeus and the game is good, a very cool wh40k fps.

It lacks of variety, at high difficulty if you don't find a good party it's really frustrating and there are some wacky game mechanics.

I would be interested in knowing that, too. It looks like it has the potential to be a good lunch-time game...I guess we'll have to wait until someone makes a video on YouTube...

Weird in the article they don't say where you can get it, just 'select retailers'.  They normally list, Target, Game, etc which can give a clue to which countries are getting it.

I think as it says  "This product will be available direct, and from selected retailers." - i.e. direct as in can be bought from GW themselves (online/stores too?) then they're not really incentivised to advertise the third party stores for this one; anyone reading about it on WarCom already knows about GW stuff, whereas the third party ones are to attract brand new customers to the hobby (imho).

Interesting I don't remember it saying direct when I looked when the article went up last night.  So finally one of these box games is available worldwide, that is good news.

Isn't the entire hobby just a cash grab?

Aye, but some cash grabs are more blatant than others.

BSF or not, what does this  offer that the original Darktide does not? And let's not forget how the models are not the Darktide designs, but a hotpodge of pre-existing minis unlike in other boxes like Combat Arena. The only thing 'Darktide' about this product is the cartboard box.

It is a bit of a missed opportunity to get a new Ogryn sculpt out but I'm going to err on the side of positivity simply because a lot of GWs smaller boxed games are actually pretty fun to play.

I love BSF, so if this ends up being just as good this might be well worth the price if the cost lines up.

BSF had a whole new set of models with it, and even some tie-in novels. That was a nice addition. That Kroot guy is sitting painted up on my shelf right now!

The minis for this game seem like an afterthought. Like someone said "Fine, but you can only include what we already have in the warehouse."

GW are likely seeing this as an advert for fans of the Darktide game, a way to funnel them into the wider GW clutches. Hence why the models here are from other releases and not bespoke models (to lower internal costs and probably to increase turn around time).

To put simply, this isn't aimed at us, if we buy it, it'll be a bonus. I feel if it was aimed at us, it'd probably be more expensive...

Besides the missed opportunity for the models, I wonder about that play surface, it seems kinda small, and one of the great things about Darktide (besides it's music) was the map design. Though I guess if someone has the tiles from Burning of Prospero or Betrayal at Calth that could provide some variety.

Frustratingly, it's not even that because they will have had to tool at least two new molds to get a standalone Kasrkin and Pious Vorne for this set, so some effort/expense has actually been incurred for this.

I dont think its really a missed opportunity though, theyve been producing these boxes for years and its always been existing models bar one, and i suspect that was just a timing slip. Clearly its part of the business model for this kind of product to keep the overheads low and seed them out there for people to stumble across, like the old MB games but fully in house. So while they probably arent an intro product for a generation like those were, i suspect they are pulling in the odd newbie or two and increasing the effectiveness especially of the Darktide marketing for GW.

And yeah its a cash grab, just like literally every GW product ever made, thats what they are for :D
