Xerxes:

Last from the lander, mechatendrils used in place of true stabilizing dendrites, emerged Xerxes with gaze fixed upon his auspex while augmentic senses guided his path. The astartes and the mutant were far more appealing targets to any ambush and their heightened senses and speed more suited to respose as the techpriest focused more on what lay further afield, seeking signal from any servitor, servo-skull, cherub, or cogitator might broadcast.

One of the astartes moved at a notably slower pace. Good, he was in no position to chase them through the vessel should they all succumb to some death-fuelled hunting instinct, a concern seemingly lacking from the other apostate of the machine god.

Xerxes:

Your auspex registers some form of contaminant lingering within the airlock, and as you look up, you can indeed see a yellow-white vapour eking from the extractor turbines. The particulates are noxious, composed of varying strains of lachrymal and irritant compounds.

Tear gas. Very strong tear gas.

Ukalegon

Ukalegom rolled his eyes in annoyance under his helm but did not respond to the maddened tech-priest’s jape. He turned to look at the others, and was surprised to find Xerxes had stowed away aboard the Krokodil without his knowledge. He stared at the twin-headed apostate magos for a few moments as he loped along in the low gravity towards them.

Where did you come from…?!

+Sweep the vicinity for hostiles. If clear, we will make for the command centre. Obadiah will take point. Mourn, rear-guard…+

He paused for a moment as Xerxes approached, +What are you doing here, Xerxes?+

He shook his helm in disbelief, then drew his infernus pistol and moved over to the access panel.

+Hah! No matter... With both you and Kraggan working in tandem, it should be that much easier to wrest our new ship from the clutches of this station. What are you reading on the auspex?+

Xerxes:

Unnoticed. Disappointing if not unexpected.

"Hazard detected, atmospheric irritant category minoris", tear gas in a sealed environment was protection against mutiny not boarding action. He inclined his head towards the back of the astartes who seemed little interested in his reply, "We are scant distance from the last location of the Brimstone and the noopsheric purge, its reach is unknown and unlike the Dredge this facility recieved no warning to isolate itself. Quarantine must be observed."

Kraggan

+++Magos Xerxes, I take it that you have already scanned myself and the power amour systems of the Astartes for this contagion?++

GM: Just to advise that an Auspex is not sufficient to diagnose such a radical type of Xenos engrammic infiltration. A diagnostic station would be required to even attempt it. Xerxes can recognise it, but cannot isolate, nor defeat such an advanced mutagenic algorithm.

Xerxes:

"Negative. Insufficient information exists to isolate the observed engrams without further risk of spread, auspex scans are insufficient."

He considered his next words, "Initial contact was destructive in nature, full armour systems failure would have occured within five point three minutes of initial sighting if infected." a pause, "possibility exists of variant strains. Source was... aware."

Ukalegon

Ukalegon’s finger hovered over the activation rune.

+Atmospheric irritant… tear gas? Obadiah, let this vent and then lead on. Varne as well. Eliminate any threats with extreme prejudice. Maintain regular vox contact. Kraggan, find the way to the command centre once we have secured our beachhead.+

He depressed the door rune and turned back to Xerxes.

+Do you speak of the structure that emerged from Brimstone, which shot off the prow of the Dredge?+

Hangar Four:

The doors begin to cycle at Ukalegon's urging, revealing an empty airlock chamber beyond. The fumes detected earlier are, of course, absent as the vacuum hungrily sucks the atmosphere away. Microgravilty succumbs to the will of gravity generators which bind you all firmly to the hull of Juno. It takes 33,4 seconds for the doors to seal behind you, and a further 33,1 seconds for the doors to the facility to open, and as they do, they reveal very little.

Darkness reigns, save for independent power supplies in emergency glow-globes. The thick fug is everywhere, limiting even the advanced sensory augurs of the redoubtable Marines. Visibility is down to four metres, and the all-pervading sense of foreboding presumed by Obadiah seems quite prescient in this mortuary still. The odd snap comes from a broken power-conduit, another fizzle generated by a cracked pict-screen. To the right of the airlock is a processing, or dock control centre, which you would expect to be manned by the adepts in charge of this section of the station.

The wretched grey of industrial dirt and grime infests the place, and the pale grey walls enhance the roil of the fug, making it feel as though you might tarry underwater, as opposed to the sea of stars.

Smashed plasicrystal cracks and crinkles underfoot, and rimes of ice snap as you usher in from the biting chill of the interstellar deep, proving the heating elements are either inoperative, or have been deactivated.

There is no-one here.

GM: The dock itself is on the other side of this particular hab and work block, it is a simple enough route to follow on the HUD's and Cartographs supplied by the inload stations available in the port terminals. Otherwise, you may make Routine (+10) Navigation (Surface) Tests to 'follow the signs'.

Kraggan

The door took an age to allow them entry, but they got inside.

The place was empty. Obadiah was right it was a tomb. A messy and inefficient place, as if all the humans had suddenly left or had been atomised at their posts.

He moved to access the port controls with his Fallen Magos Power Axe, he jacked in. He preferred a full communion as he had found haptic interfaces to be inefficient.

With a big swing and a well practiced stop, he presented the Combi-Tool elements and began to bind the device to His Will.

INT 54 +20 (Tech Use - Experienced) +10 (Combi-Tool) - 30 (Very Hard) = 54. Result: 29, Pass 3DoS

The alarm begins to sound. Klaxons roar across the base, and systems dormant waken.

Spoiler

Initiative: 2d10k1 (Lightning Reflexes)

Roll: 5, 5 + 4 = 9

P.S. if this counts as an ambush, Varne has Rapid Reaction.

Xerxes:

"Structure or master within, an emergence that coincided with the warp breach. Correlation or coincidence not established."

Ukalegon... aligned with the heretek yet neither seemed knowledgeable of what transpired within Brimstone. So much closer to the source yet blind to it.

Attention diverted to Kraggan as the adept continued forward in disregard to the call of quarantine. Xerxes adjusted the controls on several comm-linked dataslates hung at his side watching for any match, rewarded not by fresh data but instead the wail of klaxons.

Initiative 5+3+2 = 10

Xerxes:

The heuristics you encounter bear a similar electronic DNA to the destroyer algorithm encountered on Brimstone. However, the purity and efficacy is much degraded, more latency in the recombines of digital matrices.

This is as much you can understand before the alarm sounds.

The Destroyer Pattern is present. It is just going to take a little longer to kill you all.
