Small update today as I spent some time with family. Anyway I started on the Ballistus Dreadnought. I'm not a fan of the box version so decided to convert up a Redemptor (plus it lets me use some nice resin upgrade bits). Still a bit rough as it needs some cleaning up and decorations. He's also missing his left arm for now as I'm waiting to trade a friend for a Sentinel missile launcher. Think that should fit nicely replacing the Redemptor's power fist arm.

Couldn't sleep so I started messing around with ideas for the Marshal. I like the Helbrecht model and I originally planned to just make converted him into a normal Marshal holding his sword two-handed and sticking him on a 40mm base, This felt a little wasteful because while I don't get to play much 40k, I might one day decide to take Helbrecht in a list. Therefore I'm thinking rather than go ham on the model I'll do the base instead. Park him on a 40mm but build a larger scenic base on Helbrecht's 60mm one I'll have to add some height to create citadel stairs, but I think it's worth it. That way I can use one model and pick swap back and forth. Saves money too.

Anyway for the model itself I went for smaller tweaks. A new shoulder pad, a raised guard on the other, and a head swap. Haven't settled on one. Ran through three options right now for fun.

First we have High Marshal Sanguinius

MarshalWIP01.thumb.jpg.2cae82a0ce4d5b6a6f70c35a82982447.jpg

Next we have High Marshal Lion'el Johnson

MarshalWIP02.thumb.jpg.b804b6822a499e71a7fda745a257e01a.jpg

And finally, we have High Marshal Titus

MarshalWIP03.thumb.jpg.10d0515d69586e7af0563751deeeec17.jpg

Thoughts? Might go another way. We'll see what heads pop up in the coming weeks.

And yes I know the attendant with the hankie is missing. He's been executed for heresy. We all know why....

I like the idea of the Contemptor-style weapons mounts for the dreadnought.

For Helbrecht, I prefer the Lion head, purely because the facial hair is "more knightly" in my eyes.

Looks like we might have a winner. Have a few more to mess around with, but he was also my leading contender.

@Knightsword The upgrade bits for the Redemptor, and all the resin bits I've been using thus far (minus a few basing materials), are from Greytide Studios. Specifically I've been ordering them from Dragoon Gaming.

Still waiting on some materials but I should have them in a day or two. In the meantime I started working on ideas for the Emperor's Champion. I have the regular model, thought maybe I'd kitbash one, but then I got this nice looking fella for cheap. Figured I could do something fun with him. Not exactly the fairest duel. I could always convert up a Chaos Marine from my spare Imperial Marine parts, but I figured the Black Sword doesn't discriminate......all heretics will feel the Emperor's wrath.

So picked up the Sentinel Missile launcher to try for the dreadnought and yep it's too small. I'll have to see what else I can find.

Wanted to work on the EC or Marshal but had some family business to attend to. I was able to put together some Terminators though. Used a bunch of resin parts, plus some chain, and a sword swap for the Sergeant. In place of the Crux Terminatus I gave them all the same left shoulder pad. Think that works. And while initially I wasn't keen on the shoulder pads due to their size once I got them together I like 'em. Terminators should be beefy boys IMHO.

Probably need to add some chains or decorations to the power/chainfists. They're kind of plain now that I look at the photos.

Build Assault Intercessors /w Jump Packs tonight. Might go back and add some tabards. Also trying to decide what to do with their bases.

And so as not to let the other EC model I had go to waste I added a few bits to make him look different from my other EC. Trying to decide if he'll go Sword and Shield (like in the photo) so he can be fielded as a Lieutenant. Another option would be to swap the left hand for a Combi-weapon so he can be fielded as a Castellan.

I really like the sword and shield pose.

If you're not sure, could you magnetise the hand/arm?

That is an option. I've never really messed with magnets other than for basing. It's definitely something to consider. I'll look into it.

Got two more models assembled with the couple of minutes I had between work projects. Two more apothecaries. Some simple shoulder pad and a head swap should give them a little more of the Templar look. I know they're not used much in play but I think their cool and plus the chapter symbol is linked to the Knights Hospitaller. Gotta have some battle medics in here somewhere right?

ApothecaryWIP02.thumb.jpg.c9009d2fb47d294e03f3d5a04a190022.jpg

So that brings us down to the following remaining:

Sisters of Battle (postponed for now):

3 Paragon Warsuits

1 Immolator

Traded the Novitiates and Repentia kits for the Gladiator Lancer

Black Templars:

6 Eradicators (pretty much assembled just waiting on bits)

3 Aggressors

1 Ballistus Dreadnought (waiting on missile launcher)

1 Redemptor Dreadnought

1 Gladiator Lancer

2 Impulsors

We're getting close to all the grey assembled. Still a pile of shame, but at least it'll be an assembled one and not sitting in boxes. If work aligns there's no reason I can't get everything built within the next week. I do have some parts I have to gather, mostly shoulder pads and bits for the Impulsors. I really want a gunner from the Repulsor kit to man a Multi-melta on one of the Impulsors, but no luck finding one yet.

Again Sisters are paused at the moment cause I don't want to start converting the Warsuits until I'm 100% certain of how I want them to look. Compared to marines they've got a lot more fiddly bits that I can break in the process. I'll probably get the Immolator built though I still don't care for the window. Trying to wrap my head around what to do with that.

Either way we're getting there. Once built it'll be strictly down to painting and basing. Fingers crossed this week goes smoothly.

Busy work week but managed to fit some building in. Finished assembling the Aggressors and Eradicators with exception of their shoulder pads. Have to wait till Monday or Tuesday for those but then it's just slapping those on.

Finished one Impulsor this afternoon with plans for the second one and the Gladiator tomorrow. I did find a Repulsor gunner for the second Impulsor so I'll leave that spot empty till I can meet up with my buddy to trade for it. Anyway for the Impulsor I went for the the closed top version. I know it probably makes more sense for the "truck bed" version considering the rules but I like the look of the closed top myself.

Armed it with Multi-melta, Frag grenade launchers, and Missile Array

The top and back aren't glued in place just yet. Leaving those so I can paint the interior. Might go back and add some more decorations to the hull, but I'll figure that out after building the other one.

I got quite a bit assembled today. two tanks, a dreadnought, another Marshall/Castellan (the last one will keep the shield), and an Inquisitor given to me by a friend. Not bad considering how I normally don't like vehicle models.

InquisitorWIP01.thumb.jpg.ee8fb639d4d250f29f5c8c8ceba0d3d0.jpg

This means that TECHNICALLY I'm done with assembly. Just missing a few bits here and there that got delayed. They should be here by the end of the week. Specifically missing bits for the models below:

Black Templars:

6 Eradicators (assembled just need shoulder pads)

3 Aggressors (assembled just need shoulder pads)

1 Ballistus Dreadnought (assembled minus left arm)

1 Impulsor (assembled minus melta-gunner turret)

So that's it! Baring those bits and a few character touchups, it's tIme to start priming, painting, and basing. I'm going to try a winter cityscape for the bases. I'll probaby start with the Intercessors for the test. At least my grey pile is a standing/assembled one for now.

Some nice builds.

Really like the head your friend put on the inquisitor model.  While I do also like the top hat that comes on the stock model, the hooded head gives it a very different feel, which is great.

@Dr_Ruminahui Thanks, though I did the head swap, while my friend gave me the kit. But  it definitely gives of a different vibe. I keep thinking Demon Hunter from Diablo 3.

The shoulder pads finally showed up so here are the Aggressors and Eradicators.

The rest of the bits I need should be here next week, including some stuff for basing.

Got some time to start experimenting with the Intercessors because I've got plenty of spare parts to make more if I REALLY screw up. This is my first time really trying out contrast paint (they didn't exist last time I painted) and trying to get the hang of it not pooling. I tried straight Black Templar contrast paint for the armor but didn't care for it, so that model is going to get stripped and re-primed. I've taken a liking to Jay's BTs from EonsOfBattle, so I made my own version of his recipe, darkening it up a bit as his are a little more grey in hue. Did about a 60-20-20 mix of Black Templar, Lahmian Medium, and Leviadon Blue paints.

I think it works pretty well for a base coat. Obviously I've got a long way to go before these are done, but I'll out of town starting tomorrow so that'll have to wait.

TerminatorChaplainWIP01.thumb.jpg.b761fe53156c257314ec153888d07f9b.jpg

Also while wait to see how the base coat would come out, I put together a Chaplain in Terminator armor for fun. You can never have enough Chaplains, right?

Ok. Back home and time to get back at it. Didn't have a lot of time to paint but I was able to smash some more models together. Got some Assault Terminators, a Terminator Ancient, and a lone Intercessor Sergeant. Thought about doing a couple of the Terminators with swords, but I might occasionally use them in a game and the shops around here tend to be more WYSIWYG. We'll see what happens with the last two. Also I completely forgot to post the other assembled Impulsor now that the parts arrived. I have off tomorrow so I'll try and post some painted progress.

Got a little bit of painting done tonight. The Sergeant is about 80% done. Not the best photo but it'll do for now. Still need to finish the head, brazier, and tiddy up parts of the armor/shoulder pads.

IntercessorsWIP06.thumb.jpg.2b165701fb19ff12f933d1eccfdb7b85.jpg

Then of course I need to work on the base. Still going to attempt doing a snow covered urban setting. We'll see how that goes.

Put together the last two Assault Terminators. I decided to go with swords for these two to mix it up a bit. They'll just count as thunder hammers.

Had an hour or so this evening to kill and kitbashed a Lieutenant with Combi-weapon and another Chaplain for kicks and giggles.

And now another Chaplain, this time on a bike. Along with a Outrider Sergeant, two Terminator Captains, and I was able to work a bit on the base for the Emperor's Champion.
