Ok, I've started a Club: https://bolterandchainsword.com/clubs/30-the-nook-40k-rpg-play-by-post/

Went with Tro's suggestion for the name, keeps it simple and clear what it's all about. I've also added the Club Features of Topics, Images and Calendar, as they seem like the ones that are most obviously useful. If others need to be added, I think that can be done later?

Anyway, feel free to sign up to join the Club and then we can work from there?

The Game I am currently GMing  is these two threads:

And this additional thread served as the initial discussion for that game and some experimental ideas that may be needed one that game finished to discuss lessons learned and how ot develop the idea further.

So do please move all three into the club.

What do we do with older games that have finished? Do we leave them here as an archive or move them over to the Club. I don’t want to lose them as they can still be useful to look back on  or   maybe a future game will build on the story of a finished game and having the old game to hand would then be useful.

could it be valuable to have a general play by post thread as well where people can ask questions or post ideas?

Would the questions/ideas be about a specific group/adventure/campaign? Or would they be about PBP RPGing in general?

There is probably some room for discussion to remain in the current forum - where that discussion is about PBP RPGing in general. If there is room for that kind of general discussion, we'll probably make adjustments. The main RPG forum will remain as-is, taking care of general (non-PBP) RPG discussion.

+EDIT+

The identified topics have been moved into the club's discussion forum.

We should consider revamping these as opposed to porting them wholesale, a lot of the links/info are out of date. New players in the PBP Club will need them.

I'm prepared to do the work, and of course provide accreditations, if people think these would be useful.

Note that a direct port would then require a member of staff to update it.

This has now been completed.

Quick query everyone:

Would this...

...be worth moving across - or would it better serve as signposting from the RPG Forum?

What do folks think?

That's something that I would leave in this forum.

My threads of completed games and similar that should be moved

Other games/threads I think might also need moving, but as I am not the GM/Thread creator not my call.

Out of the Frying Pan

By @Viking Slade - This was a potential game, but the GM had a real life incident (broken in car or something if I recall) and it has stalled out since then. I am not sure if Viking Slade intends to pick this up again or if it is dead.

Or maybe move them into main rolepalying board so that they sit alongside the inittial thread that spawned the game (https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384691-penal-legion-campaign-with-my-custom-regiment/) until (and if) Viking decides to continue

@Mazer Rackham, I know Silent Architect did not go far, but as it is partially a follow on from Damocles Contingency would it be worth moving over as well so that if you ever feel like picking that story thread up again both games are together.

Along the same line of thought, Serpent’s Cowl was kind of a prequel to A Time of Reaving

Also what about
https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/368649-the-pbp-big-faq-thread-wip

@Lysimachus, To Plunder the Stars Themselves?

@Necronaut, Vulgar Display of Power?

Edited by Trokair

And this is why we love Tro - the man is an ENGINE of organisation. Word on the street is that Chat GPT is actually just Tro's WhatsApp hotline.

Since Silent Architect didn't finish, I am loathe to let it roll. I'll let the Players decide on that one. Good shout on Serpent's Cowl, though as that DID complete.

Yep, I'll have to move all the Plunder threads over.

Would it be worthwhile having a second Topics* type section (called Archive or whatever) for games that are complete or on hiatus? That would keep things out of the way of the games that are currently playing, but I'm  pretty sure I could move them back over if they started up again?

*if that is possible?

Set up an Archive 'forum' within the Club and moved stuff over (please let me know if I've missed anything anyone wants to keep?)

I wasn't sure about Blackthorn/Swordhand? Obviously, it hasn't played in years and none of our Club Members are the GM... but there are several players involved in the game? Thoughts, anyone?

The forum for completed/archived adventures/campaigns was a good idea. If any of those adventures/campaigns that are on hiatus become active again, the club owner (and staff) can easily move the topics into the active forum. There's always time to move the existing topics into the Nook (assuming they belong to the Nook members).

Something you may consider (it just occurred to me so I'm not necessarily sure that it is a good idea) is to create a [pinned?] topic in the main Nook discussion forum that serves as an index of the various adventures/campaigns that have been run over the years, perhaps with a summary and a status (e.g., in progress, completed, on hiatus, whatever).

As a general rule, the only topics that should be moved into the Nook are those that are specific to the group that participates in the adventures/campaigns therein. Anything that is of a general PBP nature should remain in the PBP forum; and anything that is of a general RPG nature should remain in the RPG forum. In the long-term, the PBP forum will remain active (i.e., the forum will be at least reply-only, but may allow for new topics to be started just like right now), but the actual gaming should take place in the clubs.

The =][= Play By Post Forum-specific Rules Updated =][= topic will likely be removed, replaced with something more current (once we get things figured out), including guidelines on creating clubs for PBP adventures/campaigns and creating/maintaining an outreach topic in the PBP forum. In addition, there will be a pinned topic that will serve as an index of PBP clubs. Ideally, each club will also start a topic [in the PBP forum] that identifies and links to their club and serves as an ongoing outreach/update topic for members who are perusing the forums.

Once we build the initial guidance (and the members will have a say in improving it), the existing discussion topics will be locked. We can always move those later if their owners come around and want to pick them up again (the intent is not to shut any of these games down, just move them into the Clubs).

@Trokair I'm not optimistic I'll be picking A Vulgar Display back up in any capacity any time soon, sorry. But sure let's add it to the list of archived games. I learned quite a lot from my first foray GMing here, and may pick up the reins again in the future if my schedule permits it with a slightly different project.
