Mazer Rackham
I understand this is a bit of a boomerang, since the following are in the RPG Froum, not the PBP one, but the following seem appropriate for movement into the RPG (Night) Club (since it's a dedicated space now for RPG-like development): Thoughts? Brother Tyler
I see the Space Crusade project as something that could easily be conducted via a club, but not via the Nook. The topic is correct in leading with it not being an RPG thing, the only real relevance being that it is being conceived as a play-by-post thing. If you develop any products for playing/adapting Space Crusade to the PBP format, those would be good candidates for articles in either the Homegrown Rules or Miscellaneous category of the Articles feature and/or files in the Other Games subcategory of the Game Systems category of the Downloads feature. I could easily see outreach for this occurring in the + OTHER GAMES + forum, and perhaps in the forums related to the antagonists (definitely + ADEPTUS ASTARTES +, but also + ORKS +, + TYRANIDS +, and + NECRONS + depending on how things play out). From what I can tell, The Stars, Our Ruination is intended as a general-use project that anyone might use in an RPG. If that's correct, it could easily be conducted via a separate club. If, on the other hand, the project is being developed solely for the members of the Nook, then it would be appropriate to move it into the Nook. Outreach for this could occur in the + AELDARI + and + ROLEPLAYING GAMES + forums. Regardless, the finished product would be an excellent candidate as an article in the Lore category of the Articles feature and/or as a file in the Background (Lore) category of the Downloads feature (both with the Aeldari and/or Asuryani tags), with the article/file linked in the + ROLEPLAYING GAMES + resource topic. I definitely see the Knights of the Golden Throne project as something that should be conducted in a separate club. The end products of that project would be excellent candidates for articles in the Homegrown Rules category of the Articles feature and/or a file in the Warhammer 40,000 Roleplaying Games subcategory under the Game Systems category of the Downloads feature. I can see outreach for this project taking place in the + IMPERIAL KNIGHTS + and + ROLEPLAYING GAMES + forums. Depending upon the products developed, each of these might also be a great candidate for an issue of the Legio Imprint. Brother Tyler
I've gone through and locked most of the topics that weren't archived. If any of the members want to revisit those games, you are invited to request that they be moved into the Nook if they belong to the members of the Nook or create a new club if the participants are other members. Any staff member can take care of this action - all you have to do is REPORT the topic and include a link to the club (either the Nook or a new one). The issue now is figuring how how this forum remains relevant. The way I see it, this subforum provides a place to discuss PBP roleplaying in general. It also serves as a central place to locate resources that might be common to PBP roleplaying. For example, I left the PBP player register topic unlocked, enabling new players to add their information. Another service I see this subforum providing is an index of PBP RPG groups (i.e., clubs) and ongoing games. This will make it easier for potential PBP RPGers to find those clubs/games without having to perform a painstaking search through the clubs. In what ways do you see us using this subforum to facilitate PBP RPGing? Brother Tyler
It has been about ten months since we made this change. There was, naturally, initial resistance to the change, but you've had time to work through the normal friction and [hopefully] give things a fair chance. While we hope that the expected benefits have been felt, and we knew that there might be negative drawbacks to the change, there may have been unexpected benefits or drawbacks. Benefits are all well and good, but we want to mitigate drawbacks to the greatest extent possible. To that end, we are looking for feedback from the participants. Specific questions: Has the change to the Clubs had a more positive, more negative, or relatively neutral impact on your RPG play-by-post experience here? If there have been any benefits to the change, what are they? If there have been any drawbacks to the change, what are they? And how might they be mitigated? Has the availability of relevant features (e.g., Forums, Articles, Gallery, etc.) within the club been beneficial? Has the signposting (i.e., the link to The Nook club in the + PBP Games + forum) been effective? If not, how might we improve in this area? And you are welcome to comment constructively on any aspects of the change that you think are worthy of discussion. Change is never easy, especially when we've grown accustomed to the old ways over a [relatively] long period of time. Change doesn't always work out [as well] as envisioned, however, so it's important to evaluate all of the impacts after people have had time to grow accustomed to the new way. Nothing is ever 100% better - there are always trade-offs and losses, and it's important to assess those to determine if they can be mitigated somehow or, at worst, if those deficiencies are outweighed by the positive aspects of the change. Thanks in advance. Lord_Ikka
Personally, I haven't seen any real downside to the move to a Club. We're still able to post up all of our threads (Info/Data, IC, and OOC) for each of the games and it works as well as being in the sub-forum. I haven't specifically used the Gallery option in the Club, but I know that several of the GMs have so they could probably comment better on that portion. Lysimachus
Agreed, it took a little bit of getting used to but I now find it very much superior. As Ikka mentioned, I've used the Images section a few times, and it does feel slightly simpler to have our pics to hand? I also really like that we've got the Archive section that we can move threads/games in and out of as needed, it helps keep things tidy. Brother Tyler
I can see that a bunch of the members of this club have been active recently, but only two have provided feedback. It's possible that everyone feels that the feedback provided so far is sufficient and there's no need to be repetitive. However, some members had reservations about this change, so they may have more to add. Also, I'm extremely interested in hearing about any negative aspects of the change that members may perceive, hopefully so that we can make adjustments to mitigate/prevent those issues in the future. Brother Tyler
Part of me wants to think that the creation of The Nook was 100% good, with no drawbacks whatsoever. The realist in me, however, is skeptical of that. It seems highly unlikely [to the admins] that there were no drawbacks to this change and that there's no room for improvement. Some areas for improvement might be things that the admins can effect via settings and such, while others might be areas where the members of the club can do things. All such things can be incorporated into our site practices and policies - we use checklists and templates for settings, and we plan on creating best practices guides for various things such as clubs. Without your input, however, we won't know how we can improve this from a site perspective (i.e., things the admins can take care of which are outside the scope of the club members to perform). Of all the members of The Nook club, only two have provided feedback (all (?) positive). 13 other members of the club have been active since feedback was requested, but they haven't provided feedback yet. If @Lord_Ikka and @Lysimachushave said everything that you have to say, that's fine and all, but we request that you give their posts AGREE or LIKE reactions so that we know. If you have anything of your own to add, however, especially if you think there are areas where we might improve this, we'd really appreciate that input. Just in case this request has gone unnoticed because you're not checking this specific forum, we're going to flag all members of the club so that you (hopefully) get notifications. @A.T. @Aknoby @Akylas @BadgersinHills @Black Cohort @FabiusV4lcoran @grailkeeper @ImmediateFrog @Iron Father Ferrum @Karack Blackstone @Machine God @Malice Jr. @mannclay @maquise @Mazer Rackham @Mike Zulu @Mojake @Necronaut @Trokair @Urauloth @Xin Ceithan Note that the "we" is not the royal we. A.T.
From the perspective of a player rather than DM the change was fairly seamless - though I imagine it is not as easy to find for anyone new to the forum glancing over the sections. Trokair
I have started and the deleted several goes at the reply to this follow up since last Wednesday, mostly because it ends sounding negative and bitter even when the general line is ‘we have made it work and the end result is functional enough that it does not feel like downgrade/mistkae comapred to what we had before’ however I am not sure there have been any significant upsides and therefore on balance things are neutral. Carry on as normal... What we had worked, what we have now works. I cannot think of any improvements at this time that would be good/usefull and would fall within the scope of this forum or be practicable for the forum. More visibility is always nice, but we are still a niche within the greater hobby and I suspect the same can be said of other niches. Talking of visibility: On 6/3/2026 at 7:36 PM, Brother Tyler said: Has the signposting (i.e., the link to The Nook club in the + PBP Games + forum) been effective? If not, how might we improve in this area? We have had a number of new players, and that is great. However it is hard to know if the signposting has been effective in showing new members that this part of the forum/community exists or whether other changes (such as the RPG and PBP becoming more visible from the main index since the reshuffle) or we just coincidental upsurge in interested members. So the signposting is nice, and I am all for keeping it, I just can’t tell if it helps or we just like to think it helps compared to what would have otherwise been the case. Necronaut
@Brother Tyler as with Trokair, I have started multiple times to put together a reply and haven't come up with much of anything. I would echo that while we have had some new and returning members come in, it is a little unclear as to what sort of impact moving here has had relative to the old location in that regard. Seemingly positive? Otherwise, barring the first week or two post-transition, during which time I frequently found myself turned around and back where I started when navigating the new club format much like an elderly person trapped in a labyrinthine supermarket, I have found the new layout to be just fine for what we're doing and I have gotten quite used to it. No real complaints; it does the thing well.
