Long, long time since I've posted on the B&C.

I used to play and collect 40k about a decade ago, some might remember my old Sons of Tyr log and "A Lesser Son of Greater Fathers", my Heresy Ultramarines log. I've been enticed back in to doing something in the 41st millennium again by the advent of the Astartes short (and its sequel), the Secret Level episode and Space Marine II. Absolutely wild growing up with a hobby as niche as Warhammer and now seeing it in the proverbial mainstream.

Anyway, without much ado I've been looking at jumping into some narrative games set in the modern 40k setting. I don't know yet what my group is going to use for a ruleset - we're pretty narrative-heavy and focussed largely on non-GW games - but Kill Team has gathered some interest, not least of all for the smaller scale and the chance to tell some character-focussed stories.

My offering will be focussed around a Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes bearing suspiciously familiar heraldry who find themselves on the wrong side of the Cicatrix Maledictum...and more than likely, facing the very real prospect of their own mortality as a host of existential threats pile on their doorstep.

So rage, rage against the dying of the light, and let fly the Sons of the Condor...

Is that your model?  He's gorgeous.

That said, the image with the background is a bit fuzzy - for readability, you might want to post the text as text rather than as part of an image.

Thanks! Yes he is, wouldn't post others' work without their permission. Yes, the Index sizes up if you click on it but I'd already made it fairly spontaneously so didn't fancy reformatting for a text post. I was going to try and recreate the old Index Astartes style but couldn't find much in the way of templates, so made my own. All in the name of fun, at the end of the day.

I remember your heresy Ultramarines.  Ma’ingan looks fantastic! I’m looking forward to seeing more of your Sons of the Condor.

Thank you! I'm really enjoying the project so far - it's a little surreal to be in the Dark Millennium again but it's great fun. Ma'ingan's brother Da'rok is next on the paint table:

Yes, i daresay i will greatly enjoy this thread. Looking forward to what you do next.

On the painting side: your weathering is really great. Really adds interest to the stark B&W paintscheme!

Thanks guys.

Da'rok is now done, joining his brother Ma'ingan as the two Assault Intercessor proxies in Thunder Cadre. Da'rok will be the grenadier specialist - I didn't want to Flanderise too much so went with the red krak grenade as an easy identifier on the tabletop.

Great stuff, both looking really good. Love the IA, really helps set the tone.Looking forward to more.

Thanks very much! I'm really enjoying the project. It's nice being back in the Dark Millennium.

Next up - two more brothers, this time both veterans - one of the Deathwatch, and one of the Sternguard. The Deathwatch veteran will be run as a Heavy Gunner in Kill Team, and the Sternguard vet, running an unusual sub-pattern of Stalker bolter, will be an Intercessor Gunner.

So I was looking at the assembled models last night and decided I wanted the last member of the Kill Team (before the Command model - whoever that is) to be a regular Tactical Marine. Naught but a bolter, guts and glory.

I also went back and looked at the Deathwatch veteran, Brother Sur'gesh, and decided his weapon just didn't quite cut it. I wanted something that reflected the Devastator veteran's service in the Deathwatch, with just a tinge of the weird esotericism that comes with a posting in the mysterious organisation.

So I added a purity seal first of all, to give the sense that the weapon has been personalised a little by its owner, and added on an extra laser designator on the side of the gun as well as, somewhat anachronistically, an underslung grenade launcher. To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to represent this in Kill Team, so I'm just keeping it for the 'rule of cool'. I figured it could be used to launch a smoke grenade or other type of utility grenade or something.
