Hard agree on that. Mystery has been a big part of Warhammer and especially the Horus Heresy. Naturally, many of these have been dissolved over the years. But in my opinion it is more intriguing to riddle about for example the disappereance of the two missing primarchs

Sad to see all new releases have moved to the app, which sucks balls and I can't be bothered to use anymore.

The BL app is absolutely unusable, the worst digital reading app I think I’ve ever seen. That said all the new releases are available on kindle and other digital storefronts, which offer a much better experience.

The trouble is that Kindle/Kobe/etc are all jail-locked as well , so you can’t move your files around as it suits you to whatever device/app you want to use.

The old Galaxy in Flames cover is iconic and they replace it with a temu Abbadon fighting Loken while touching toes in the sand

Yeah, the new HH covers aren't doing it for me, and this one's no different. It feels very bland, just a basic depiction of a fight. There's nothing interesting or adventurous about it.

 

I know the original covers aren't exactly masterpieces either, but they at least have some nostalgic appeal.

If you buy all the new covers and combine them they form a map that leads you to he buried copies of the Horus Primarch book.

This re-release is the first one I don't better than the original. Galaxy in Flames' original art is actually kinda decent, and this one captures neither the grit nor the scale of the book's contents.

Those illustrations by Phillip Sibbering and Neil Roberts actually had an unique and very distinct art style.

I don't recall seeing their mix of CGI models and traditional painting techniques before or after. They were instantly recognizable and full of details. 
The latest covers became more streamlined and bland in comparison, IMO.

Yeah, this entire forum serves as a book club after all. 

 

Actually funny to me (and rather typical) that the other discussion remained open for almost a month and a half before it got locked like that, and new threads still were made and commented on, at least when GW/BL released anything warranting it. Cadia still stood, regardless.

 

In better news, the Wicked and the Damned is coming sooner than expected, preorder next Saturday

Really like the LE of Wicked and the Warped, the image on the pages is a nice touch.

 

Not enough to get me to try and get something Limited Edition from GW after what happened when the Cain mini came out,

Wow. There's actually a new audiobook dropping that they haven't spoken about so far, as far as I'm aware.

 

Audible lists "Armageddon: Blood and Fire" by ADB for September 1st.

However..... "PART ONE", of THREE, runtime 1 hour, 18 minutes.

 

The runtime might indicate a CD release / audio drama format, but... it's just Jonathan Keeble narrating, so this seems unlikely.

 

In other words, they're cutting up the Blood and Fire novella from 13 years ago, to sell it in THREE PARTS, when it's just a sodding novella and nothing indicates that they're giving it the audio drama treatment of old to come close to warrant this decision.

 

Nevermind the cover being recycled art, not the original artwork of the novella, let alone the Armageddon omnibus art, and the Space Marine Battles layout was also scrapped. It seems solely aimed at milking the Armageddon launch box hype.

It's been a while since I've read the paper version, but maybe? Google lists the ebook version at 102 pages, so that sounds a little fast for 1 hour 19 minutes. It's close though 

 

That being said, it's also not enough for three separate parts, so I have no idea how they're doing that

Comparable novellas from back then clock in more around 3-4 hours. It's specifically mentioned to be a release in THREE PARTS, which would indicate the rough estimate holds true here as well.

 

The Traitor's Gorge novella for Rynn's World had about the same word count according to my calibre plugin's estimate, and clocked in at 3h22m in audio. Kyme's Promethean Sun was around 10% longer (and had literally no chapters, what the heck) and the audio was a bit over 4 hours. Aurelian was a little shorter, and hit 3h17m anyway.

 

This runtime, if anything, makes it look like they're planning a CD set release, since it's about what an audio CD is capable of, and they're trying to milk it on audiobook platforms / their terribad app, before they release it that way.

That or it was made a while ago for a CD release that never happened and they've pulled it out now to fill a release slot that something else had to be dropped from. But makes no sense why they'd not stitch the whole thing into one audio file for this release. Smells a lot like the incompetence of greed to me.
