Evil Eye
I like the 4E metal Venerable; there's elements that don't quite do it for me (the toe claws and double thumb) but overall I think it captures the feel of "ancient walking tomb that's even more sacred and old than the other ancient walking tombs" very well. That said, whilst I'd love to get a metal one I prefer the plastic kit due to the sheer amount of options. You can do anything from heavily ornamented fighting relic to a slightly more ornate regular Mk V. I'll definitely echo the desire for a plastic Mk. IV Castraferrum. The FW ones were amazing. NothingHere
I am hoping, with 11th edition pushing primaris further into being more like their firstborn counter parts, that the Venerable Redemptor starts to take more from the castaferrum patterns. I don't love primaris by any stretch, i only really enjoy it when it is just doing 1 to 1 remakes like the Landspeeder (which isn't quite 1 to 1, but it is much better than the Storm Speeder and atleast attempts to look like what is bringing back) and Terminators. The Redemptor is such a hard one for me to reconcile with cause i don't hate it, the Ballistus made me like it a bit more with how much that one looks like the old plastic boxnaught. Even still they all look too much like mech suits, not enough like walking coffins with guns. Ironically enough the one that is actually a mech suit, the Invictor, would have worked infinitely better as a dreadnought. It is entirely the legs though, the rest is just worse than the Redemptor. Crimson Longinus
Oh, and it is probably inevitable, that the ven dread will have stupid exposed head, as that has come to be associated with venerableness, but I really hope it doesn't or at least has an option for the proper sarcophagus. What I like about the Contemptor/Heresy dreadnoughts and the MK IV is the "head" . It's just a dressed up sensor pod that houses a bunch of optical sensors and an auspex. The issue I have with the plastic Venerable Dreadnought is that they made it look like an exposed Space Marine. The parts are the same size as a Tactical Marine chest and head. nodnol88
You’d think the Redemptor is primed for an upgrade sprue or two to easily give us loads of variants. Venerable as discussed, but Bjorn or Murderfang should be relatively easy too. The Redemptor build is such it wouldn’t surprise me if there was some future-proofing considered at its inception. This is why it's usually relegated to "backward" societies. In the Imperium this role is filled by the Guard and even within it cavalry is supposed to be unpopular. You can see it also with Craftworlders-Exodites, Tau-Kroot (and Orks, although I don't like either Squighog Boys or giant chariots and I think that both are really pushing what is fit for 40k Orks). SoB don't fit this pattern. 2). We've seen how GW imagines "high-tech" cavalry and I think that Thunderwolves, Serberys and Lord Solar are all ridiculous, two first straighforward infantile. I would also note, that I wasn't blown away by either plastic Attilans or Death Riders. 3). With SoB aesthetics and GW subtelty, we are getting Bretonnians in space with heavy handed nods to Jeane d'Arc. 4). Not every faction needs to have analogs to other factions' units. It's OK not to have a biker susbstitute. Evil Eye
Personally I think Dread-Heads can work, though I definitely prefer Contemptor or Mk IV style heads where the head unit is much bigger than a Marine's helmet, and it's ambiguous whether the actual head is in there. Orion
Both Dread heads and caskets work, but the current plastic venerable compromises with options to do neither well. Looks good on paper but bad in practice. The original dreadnoughts had more of a wedged angle and wires/tubes. These sculpts look way better than the venerable, and it bugs me when people act like the Venerable can just magically turn into one. Not hating on heads though. MKIV is cool! I definitely think the Mk IV did the head better than the plastic Venerable. That said I actually kinda like the sarcophagus option on it, it's different from the stock Mk V but I kinda like that, gives it a more ostentatious vibe. Also the Venerable with the inner torso exposed and no front plate on makes a great basis for a Chaos Dreadnought. Dezron
Going to Ork rumors for a bit: New Battlewagon - The only thing I hope for is an option to stick more (and bigga') gunz on it. New Trukk - Maybe a pipe dream, but an option to replace transport space with zoggin' big gun. New Burna Boyz - I hope for propa Burna Nob and maybe some special weapons options for them. Pipe dream is option to switch all Burnaz for Kombi-Skorchaz. Gonna bet on them getting Burna-Bomb Squig. New Lootas - Loota Nob, them having model bits that indicate that they like looting stuff (pockets full of scrap, tools, etc.), enough parts to give every Loota in the squad either Shooty Deffgun or Beamy Deffgun. Hoping for Deffguns having atleast some bits that look like were looted from other factions. The truck and battle wagon had basically same design in mind, so you "could" add the backside from wagon to truck. If memory serves right, it was mentioned when new battle wagon was shown in white dwarf years ago. I haven't built a Trukk myself so I can't really comment but it does look like it really needs to be painted in sub-assemblies due to the large amount of visible but obscured details. Whether a refresh would fix that I don't know, though. I'd be a bit sad to see the back of it if only because it is a nice looking model, but on the plus side, orks being orks, there's no need to limit yourself to a standard design for your trukks because there isn't one. Scratchbuilding or heavily converting another model will give just as orky an end result!
