I hope the bolter eradicators are a separate datasheet from the melta eradicators.

See I kinda hope we get a new multi-part Eradicator squad that replaces the current one, but has Melta, Heavy Bolter and then a few more options. It’s about time they did something Neo-Vulkite, and whatever else too. Have their special rule change depending on their load out.

On all the models in general..they’re fine. The captain is cool, and so are the rest of the characters,  but not enough where I feel an obligation to pick them up due to FOMO. Indomitus and Leviathan both had character sprues that made it enticing; I don’t feel the same draw here.

Pick of the bunch is the Landspeeder to be honest because I think it’s a good update. With the options in the box that may be the individual release sprue.

My biggest thing with this box is that the most versatile of the units, the Intercessors and Vanguard Vets, are both units that will benefit greatly from being multi-part and somewhat customizable, something that directly juxtaposes their inclusion as push fit mono-pose models.

I think I’m going to skip this and wait for the individual releases.

I like this Space Marine launch set more than I liked Leviathan. If I can find someone to swap halves with on box purchases (double marines!) I'd like to do so. Honestly, even if I can't, the Ork half is cool, I just don't want to paint that many detailed Orks.

Pretty much what we were all expecting.

Glad to see a jump pack model actually standing on the ground instead of flitting about. Hope is not completely lost for a decently-posed set of Suppressors.

The Storm Speeder Landstrike is compensating for something with that base.

Can't wait for the tie-in novel which will namecheck all of these models and have zero impact on the setting.

I'm feeling better about the Vanguard Vets now that I've seen them as a group, specifically the left two and the sarge. The ones on the right are lacking. The two hand pose, the studs leg, and the Laurel across the chest are doing work and the righties don't have anything comparable.

Suppose it would easy to use bits to glitz them up, especially if you're going BA, UM, DA, or BT as they have a lot of bits that could be useable here.

The characters look great, especially the Captain. Thinking of using him as a base for a primaris scale Corien Sumatris conversion. As for the Vanguard Veterans, the one previewed which I wasn't too fond of at first is the best of the lot for me.

I'm sold.

Wasn't honestly expecting vanguard vets to stay in 5s. Too bad they lose storm shields and weirdo pistols, but whatever. Nice that my Deathwatch boys will get a bit of a buff, as their swords were embarassing lol

I'll be using all the characters for sure, bar the Ancient (though he'll likely end up a Lt. or fancy sergeant at any rate).

This is the most 'Storm Lords vibes' an edition launch has been, though, so I'm pretty chuffed. I'm definitely just slapping multi-melta barrels on the Eradicators to complete a 6-man melta squad so I can take minis from 4 launch releases in a single unit for the lulz (DI Gravis Captain +3 Indomitus Erads + 3 Armageddon Erads + Apothecary Bio). Just 6 + Biologis is actually pretty decent too tho.

The Intercessors are a bit whatever obviously, but I do like at least the potential to do infantry horde when I want. Might get a game or two out of 20 Intercessors this edition I guess lol

Cheers,

The Good Doctor.

If I were new to the hobby or just starting marines this box would knock my socks off. The characters are excellent. Really impressed by the captain. Much better than the Indomitus captain. The chaplain probably my favorite model in the box. The smoke replacing tactical rocks is a choice. I will find a way to mitigate that. The Intercessors make sense. It has been a few editions since bolter intercessors were in the starter. I am not interested in owning anymore of them. Not a fan of the gravis but if a unit can 6 it would be pretty fun anti horde. Unfortunately I play Space Wolves and am restricted from using an Apothecary Biologus. The ancient is nice. Also unfortunate that he cannot join my space wolves bespoke units. GW should find a way to allow that to happen.

I think the Ork half wins. Everything for them is new and novel. The ork models are the best refresh from a non-imperial faction in the starter since 6th edition. (8th was good too if you're into nurgle)

It is slightly cathartic to see something released which is simply named 'Land Speeder' and not 'Land Speeder Stormhammersmash'.

The marine half is okay overall. I had hoped to see significantly more representation from Mark VI/VII-styled pieces in the set, and I've never liked Gravis armour, but all of the other models are solid enough. The characters are probably the highlight for me with the exception of the Ancient whose banner would look better were it braced on the ground.

Great to see Crimson Fists on the transfer sheet as well.

I’m definitely going to repose that banner.

You might have an easier time with the multipart kits. They mentioned in the stream that the shoulderpads are moulded on which will make customising them a bit harder.

They saturated the space marine range a long time ago and we had so many, it's no wonder these seem a little blend.

For me they are not amazing, but still good SMs and if you are new to the hobby I'm sure you will have a blast with them.

What's going on with the fella throwing a grenade and his left shoulder? It's the picture or the arm is too distant from the torso?

I think the Landspeeder is ok. I am glad there is a way to replace the rock and smoke stand. Not really much else to say to be honest.

One thing I really wish they would start doing with kits is if they have one leg stood one something then have an optional straighter leg you can swap in to replace that leg so that you can base the models yourself.

The more I look at them the more I like the all except the VV (hate the trend for loincloths to flow between the legs of characters in the air, they look like diapers).
the intercessors remind me of the very first (2nd I suppose) multipart kit came out just before 3rd and was in the launch box, especially the variant chests. The characters are amazing.

the retro inspired paint jobs are stunning and it got me thinking.

the captain is coded as halfway between these two paintings. In an interview back when epic came out there was a comment that these were imagined as sort of the same guy progressing through his career, and I totally buy into that with this mini.

A new player would?

I agree. I think this set is intended for new players.

You're getting basic troops and a number of HQs that can be useful across different squads.

It would only take a few purchases go get the list to say, 1k.

I also have a feeling that the Speeder will be very useful in 11th due to the rules regarding targeting units at range. A fast vehicle with decent firepower might be more effective than in 10th.

Overall, I'm impressed. The characters are very good - I really like the Librarian (personally I like the call back to the mini with the cherub). Ancient needs a little work, but not bad.

Land Speeder is... fine. Better than the Stormspeeders, but I think I'd need head swaps?

Eradicators - not terrible, but I won't ever use them. Personal preference again, but I just don't like Gravis armour (TDA ftw! )

The other squads are ok. VV look better as a group, and Intercessors are ok. Always nice to have more poses.

But an appeal to GW designers: when you do the next multipart boxes of these squads, please, please, please go further to make them individuals.

Fancy bits and unique CC weapons for VV - axes and shields and claws, etc.

and include more armour Mks for Intercessors - MkV tubes and bonding studs, MkIV square kneepads and breastplates, MkIII backpacks and shoulder pads.
