Um... sorry to say it, MG, but I think you've got your Aptitudes a bit wrong?

There are 19 Aptitudes listed on pg 101.

You either have an Aptitude or you don't, you can't have the same one twice?

Most of the ones you get are listed on your Specialty, but it is possible to get others (or the same ones again) from Doctrines.

If you do get the same one from multiple sources (like how you've got Toughness from being an Ogryn and from Die Hards Doctrine) you can pick an alternative, but it must be a Characteristic-named one (WS, BS, Str, etc, etc)

Does that mean we are decided on squad roles now? Did @A.T. pick a Specialty yet?

Had been going weapon specialist but as we have no tech-priest i'll take the operator so that we have someone with at least a 20-30% chance of setting the demo charges correctly.

I reckon that's a smart pick.

An Operator would get Tech-Use+10 (from his own abilities and our Sapper Doctrine), and another +10 for the Combi-tool in his gear. Plus up to 2 Assists from the rest of us if needed, that's a pretty solid +40 in total to any Tech-Use test?

Plus you can drive any vehicles we pick up during the game!

I get an injector but no drugs...?

Oof, I'm at 2kg of available weight left after everything (including the lascutter and taking a longlas as my Primary weapon). Moght have to hand off the lascutter to Cutter

Drugs? Who needs drugs when you have a 2D10 cauterising laser!?

Thanks to our regimental selections we do all start off with Tech-Use so don't feel absolutely pressured to do that.

Edit: sorry I misread your post and thought you were rolling up a tech priest. Operator away, my good man!

Well, at 35 out of 36kg with what I need for pretty much any deployment. Comrade Cutter will be carrying me blankey and rations, along with the lascutter and ponchos. He's a good helper.

And done.

Althus "Doc" Culvain and Cutter created. Think all I have left is to input the actual skill totals, but that isn't relaly important to anyone but me. Now to work up a background...

Mojack did say this a few pages ago when carry weight and encumbrance was discussed.

r.e. equipment, the rules state that an average character can reasonably carry their weapons, ammunition, and "several pieces of miscellaneous equipment in a rucksack, satchel, or similar container" without issue, and that you only need to calculate exact weights when a character attempts to carry unusually heavy loads (like three heavy weapons and thousands of rounds of ammo). Because the items you listed are everyday bits and bobs that are worn or in a backpack, they can fall under the assumption of what an average soldier can reasonably carry into the field, i.e. don't worry about it

Hmm. Then I guess a lascutter is back on the menu. I'll keep Cutter with the foodstuffs anyway, and take away the carrying weight of my gun and ammo and basic ruck. So it'll be closer to 25 kgs then.

@Lysimachus - Thank you for the clarification. I think that I got misled by the skills and talents we got having Aptitudes and thinking that you got them from them as well.

@Mojake I know it's a little bit ahead, but can we discuss that Quickdraw/Rapid Reload replacement talent - and why it's Deadeye Shot?

Could you point me back to the post where you mentioned it please (or state the case again)? I just combed through the last 14 pages to gather all of the agreed bits and bobs for world and regiment lore and don't fancy searching again :yucky:

I can refresh you.

The trouble I have is that the options from Line Infantry and Homeworld allow me to take Rapid Reload and Quickdraw twice, and I already have the Talents as options from my Specialty, so I'm losing out on a pick due to doubling up on both.

Thoughts?

So:

Frontier gives Combat Sense or Quick Draw

Line Infantry gives Rapid Reload.

Stormtrooper gives Quick Draw or Rapid Reload.

Looks to me like you take the green options and avoid overlap, no?

Final things to tidy away are:

  • Who will be the squad sergeant and who is the 2IC corporal?
  • Squad designation?
    • We can go alphanumeric, e.g. C-5-2 (C company, 5th platoon, 2nd squad)?
    • Or we can go for a nickname, although we already have mountainbreakers for the regiment... or we could do a swap and say the regiment remains as 8th Miradoran Pioneers, and squad C-5-2 specifically are nicknamed the Mountainbreakers?
  • Regiment insignia?
    • Thoughts on this

Once we've got all of that sorted I'll get a data thread up and character creation and introductions can start in earnest.

Necro has Sargent as his speciality, as for a corporal, would A.T. as our operator make sense?

Ah, I wasn't 100% if Necro went Commissar or Sergeant.

We don't necessarily need a corporal, but if Sgt Necro gets his head taken off then it helps to have someone in the heirarchy to step up. Alternatively, chaos and running around screaming without firm orders is also fine.

Logic says Necro for Sgt, and maybe Mazer as 2IC - I'd imagine a Storm Trooper is pretty well respected?

Yep, that works for me, C-5-2and  Mountainbreakers as squad moniker.

My thought is your needlework is very impressive.

Seriously though, love it. If they wear rocky greys/browns, that blue should pop nicely? Just thinking, maybe 'rooks' as suggested by MG might be a nickname given by other IG from other worlds?

We've both got Tactica Imperialis, so 'talking' to Blackjack for advice or what have you could class as an Assist, by all means.
