For those of you engaged in a back and forth over primaris marines and their profitability - stop it.   Its off topic and I don't want another thread derailed by that old saw.  This discussion is the new outriders, on their own merits - deviances into old history are liable to get this thread locked.

Pretty much! I may be slightly biased as I have a soft spot for lighter/smaller armoured vehicles.

I get the desire, I just think that sort of thing does suit guard... sorry, astra militarum, better.

I think the concept of the ATV could have been good, it does make more sense than a bike with sidecar for any kind of bad terrain... It just needed to not suck. I actually wonder if the base design of the vehicle would have sucked less if it were multi part... bear with me a sec but...

take the joytoy one..

So maybe the circled bits in a multipart version could have been more interestingly posed? The rear wheels are on a bit that mean the entire back side can angle based on terrain if required, also means you could have one angled and one more flat and couple it with the front section angled to create something looking like its on a HARD angled turn, then the gunner could have had a more interesting pose, maybe even have it have multiple poses in the kit to allow for more angled posing. The steering part obviously would need some scope for different angles too...

All that said, the front of the vehicle is just AWFUL, had the front been as armoured as the rest, it could have looked better even, rather than the marine being exposed like he is, if the armour plating was further forward and went round the driver completely, maybe there's some world where the vehicle wouldn't suck? Ignore the grav bits, but the armoured section for the driver does look better here:

Still unlikely frankly.

On thing I like about the ATV and attack bike was how it completed a full squad per the old days:

Sergeant on Bike

5 Marines on Bikes

2 Marines in ATV/Attack Bike

2 Marines in Land Speeder

and that was a 10 man squad.

Sure, yea... I'd probably get two if there were actual new armaments for the whole squad. At this point I may get one kit just for power weapons to swap on to my existing 2 squads, but I'm in no rush, really. By the time I finish my Armageddon side I'll likely need a wee break from marines, and indeed my memories of Outriders is they're just a bit of a faff with the sub-assemblies... So I might just go kitbash the fancy serge options and be done with it, because 2x3 outriders always still feels like enough even with Suboden leading one of them. 3x3 would still be nifty as an option for a Full Speed list at some point, still... We'll take another look in a year or two.

Cheers,

The Good Doctor.

I am happy for those who enjoy bike armies and have been waiting for multi-part Outriders.  I've never really been a fan of the idea of space marine bikes, and would have much preferred grav bikes - maybe we'll see those in 12th or 13th edition.  While I've now got an Ork army to nourish and grow after buying the Armageddon box, I'm still rooting for more Marine reveals over the next two weeks.

I suppose, from the rumors we've got, the next two Marine reveals might be a new Rhino and then a Land Raider if we win all three zones.

Sounds like it'll be the venerable redemptor if our yellow overlord can be believed.

with the atv, if they could just make the driver and gunner slightly offset to each other it would be a big improvement - though getting the drivers legs between the front wheels might then be an issue

there was someone who made one by just putting wheels on the old landspeeder which was both pretty funny and cool

That... Isnt bad actually. Like Id still wantit to look less land speederish ideally, maybe no narrowed at the front in the same way? but I can see the vision and I approve.

Basically just give us a Warthog Puma.

What in Sam Hill is a Puma?

I've done this for my unit markings - but 3 man outrider squad + ATV = 5 men, no speeder needed, or 1 atv per 3 bikes.

Cool idea! For some reason it never occurred to me in all these years that a fast attack squad could in fact trade in a few bikes for a different ride. May have to steal this idea for my next project.

How about one, just one, leaning forward as the thrill of the speed and the chase washes over them. A pose where the rider is low down to avoid a shot? The folks who design the Ork vehicles seem to really love cars. They get excited about suspensions and engine placements and the vehicles have a real feel of motion even in their cartoony proportions. I'm guessing there are not many bikers on the modeling staff.

How is there not an Akira motorcycle slide pose in the kit?! Does GW hate money?

Ah, excellent. The Wilhelm Scream of the animation community.

Its not a lawnmower pose, its a cruiser bike pose, which is more the style of what a big heavy hunk of ceramite like an outrider bike will be. It's also heavily inspired by the old judge dredd bike pose.

No no, I think he's got a point. These aren't just guys in leather jackets cruising down the road, they are moving down their enemies. It's their life's work.

Edit: Is there no way to quote multiple anymore?

Huh, I always thought that was the norm/intended unit assignment. A full Assault Squad was 6 Bikes and 2 Attack Bikes (or Land Speeders) = 10 Marines total.

Attack bikes yeah, but speeders and/or ATV never crossed my mind.

Wonder if the ATV gets retired, do we get an Outrider attack bike? That would complete the trifecta with new upscaled speeders and this new multipart Outrider kit.

@phandaal I hope we do get an updated attack bike I've a fondness for it's brutal ridiculousness. The atv looks wrong on a few points that I can never fully explain but I think the biggest two are it doesn't look like a marine vehicle but a guard one firstly, and it kind of looks like a conversion people used to do if putting wheels on land speeders but not finished.

I don't think they look better than the etb ones, who are, IMHO, way more dynamic. + tilting them on one side or the other is already possible if you snip the peg for the base on the wheels

The choice of weapons for the sergeant is great, I quite like the axe as it's not a common option in regular space marine kits, + the moustache is glorious.

I'm glad I futureproofed my outriders by magnetizing a power sword and chainsword for the sergeant
