I kinda like the Ork detachment, but the "hidden mob gets lethal hits" stratagem seems very situational, unless I'm missing something. I mean, Shootas are range 18" and you have to be more than 15" away to be hidden, so chances seem a bit slim that you'll get much use out of it?

Hidden status is granted by being an infantry/beast/swarm unit in a terrain area that includes a dense feature and not having made a ranged attack in the current or previous turn. It doesn't have any range requirement; the main purpose of being hidden is to confer a detection range (usually 15"), outside of which you're not visible to an enemy unit.

So you can be hidden even if an enemy unit is 3" away from you. They would be able to shoot you, but you'd still have the hidden condition and be able to trigger that stratagem. It wouldn't really work for hidden to have a range requirement because if it did you'd lose it completely if someone got a model within that range (15") of your unit. So people would just throw out a sacrificial model/unit to tag as many enemy units as possible and then light them all up.

I love that the Orks are getting with their Boyz a treatment close to what the Death Guard got with Plague Marines. They get the Armageddon Boyz, which for an EtB kit are surprisingly versatile, the Starter Set Boyz for an extra bit of variety and more unique sculpts, and then the multipart Boyz, which if done correctly this time, should be a very nice kit to play around with. The versatility and variety of this kit remains to be seen, but the little they've shown of the Nobz options seems promising.

Speaking of the Nob, this guy's expression greatly amuses me. Just the malevolent joy of it all.

I'd be honestly surprised if the Armageddon/Starter set, the trial set and the stand alone box of boys aren't all somewhat compatible with the shared cross section.

Wow.

Maybe a bit of bias here, but this Ork release is, so far, my favorite thing from GW in probably a decade or more. Every single thing gets me giddy.

This and the emperor's children release is costing me a fortune lol. The boyz, bikes and trukk are genuinely amazing.

I'm intrigued to see if/ when the new nobz drop along with hopefully lootas/ Burnas.

I can't say it's that high up there for me, but it does definitely get me wanting to restart that Dread Mob army I attempted in 2009. If we get new Meganobz I might have to dive in

Amazing miniatures, the proportions (especially of the weapons) is a massive improvement. The  multipart design is very clever and the bionic arm on the nob is excellent

also, I need this guy

Ah, I see, thanks! I'd gotten it into my head that you actually lost "hidden" status when one or more units where able to target you.

"Infantry Warboss" eh?

While this subject to change with the imminent codex, the Deffkilla Wartrike currently has the WARBOSS keyword.

Nice update to the boyz kit.  So what is coming in the ork wave again?  What I remember is: New boyz, new warboss, new trukk, and new bikers.  Am I forgetting anything or has something been rumored?

Don't forget the new mekboy!

There is also rumor of new Nobz (the unit).

The deffdread has been online only for ages which makes me wonder if they might redo it, though that and the killakans could make the basis of a good 2nd wave later on/in a future edition. i definitely need to pick one up just in case it gets replaced though.

The new boyz are lovely. I am in the same boat as many, I dont need more boyz but I will definately be getting some and I fell that they will probably fit alongside the older models quite happily.

What I would love for them to do is an equivalent ork upgrade kit like the various marine chapters and Cadians have to give some gubbins - lots of back mounted shootas for older collections (!), various glyphs etc and maybe a few more of those small squigs for bases etc.

I would love a Blood Axe box filled with Orky versions of Guard items. My wallet wouldn't though.

I don't know if we're allowed to link out to reddit threads but a user there extracted some very blurry pics of the nobz unit from a shot of the new codex in the GW Q&A.

Hope they look as good as everything else so far.

In the ramp up to 10th edition GW posted a little blurb regarding oath of moment:

Re-rolls are significantly less common in the new edition, so the ability to single out one target per round for complete annihilation reinforces the Space Marines’ reputation for disciplined, targeted hammerstrikes.

Ive noticed that throughout 10th and now into 11th re-rolls are the go to game mechanic for 40K and I’m not sure it’s a good mechanic. I just refocused on it with the review of the space marine detachment and the rerolls of 1 rule.

The orcs look amazing!

Indeed! I genuinely wish they'd just totally axe them.

Orks already have default re roll advances. I'd rather see none at all. Especially for things like the marines with the prevalence of 2s to hit, 2s to wound it feels.

Nazdreg - unconfirmed

Warboss

Mek

Nobz

Boyz

Warbikes

Trukk

Grots - if the current box is being replaced. The new ones are locked into the boyz sprues from the starters/ Armageddon/ combat patrol

Then there's the separate kits from Armageddon:

Dakkarig

Wartrakk

Command sprue - big boss, painboy, bannernob

Lootas/ burnas - rumoured ish

There was a battlewagon rumour but valrak quashed his own rumour.

It's going to be an expensive September.

I've split several posts off this thread discussing the virtues of using d12s instead of d6s - an interesting discussion, but rather off topic here.  Please focus this discussion on the new ork kits.

You can find the split of topic here.
