But the tabards were bad (too wide) and the muscle armour details on the sergeant never sat well with me as the point was always it was artificer armour (same reason 10th edition blood angel captain having separate rules and NOT being a 2+ save annoyed me).

Anyway, long story short, whilst I appreciate the view some have of "how the mighty have fallen" comparing 5th edition DC to the upgrade kit, and agree with the general sentiment, I think the actual fall was losing a more subdued but undeniably distinctive kit like the blood angel tactical squad, NOT the death company squad.

I'd personally like to see a "blood angel intercessor squad" one day with a slightly more aggressive mix of poses than the base ones and slightly more subtle bling and details like these had than a return to the 5th edition DC kit.

On the point of the BA Tacticals, I think a lot of people also forgot just how controversial the kit was when it dropped in 7th. I remember reading A LOT of flak about how it was indicative of peak Loyalist Marine bloat and 'everything wrong with modern GW', where we'd reached the point GW was so clearly out of ideas and desperate to milk what crumbs they could that the most standard-issue Marine kit was seeing bespoke versions for chapters instead of upgrade sprues other chapters had before.

In hindsight it's not terribly surprising they ended up rebooting it with Primaris only a few years later.

That it's often held up as 'peak' now when it was considered 'overdesigned and unnecessary' in it's day is also pretty funny. Putting that aside, if we saw something similar again for Primaris I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up just being a new unit entry even if for all intents and purposes it's just an Intercessor Squad; kinda like how Black Templars get Crusaders as a separate option, but you can still run Intercessors. They seem to really like that way of going about things now.

Or maybe they'll have it pull double duty as a Death Company dual-option box, since they can appease both the people who want them to be guys who slapped some black paint on their armour (the camp I am also in), versus those who think it should be bespoke and closer to 5th.

Blood angels had distinct marine models from 2nd edition onwards.

it’s basically always been the case till more recent times. My point was more that at one point the death company were just those same models painted black - and that’s what I want to see again, a kit that can be used as death company or blood angel line infantry based on the paint scheme. Retaining the key thing of winged blood drops and occasional leg designs featuring blood drops. Both of which were a staple as far back as 2nd.

i don’t think we need a tactical kit and a death company kit, I was saying the tactical kit is more aligned with what I’d want to see in terms of designs than what we saw with death company :)

Oh I'm not disagreeing, merely rambling off that topic. Though I agree with you on the Death Company front.

Again, just applying the chaos legion thought process to loyalists.

Which is the problem. Loyalist Scum are all organized very similarly in fluff, with just a few exceptions here and there. There's also such overlap in unit design that there's no reason for some consolidation on top of opening up all the options for all Chapters.

Do you believe Blood Angels and their successors are the only Chapters that use a Jump Pack bodyguard unit?

No, so why are they?

Edit: I'll add that I can't tell if this is satirical sarcasm or not

Or even before that.

There was a Blood Angels Tactical Squad released in spring 1993 (around half a year before 2nd edition rolled out), with Mk 7 armour, bolters, melta gun, heavy bolter and a chainsword-swinging bareheaded sergeant. Though looking at the pictures, most of them may have been generic marine figures, but at least the sergeant has distinctively blood-angelish decorations on his armour.

my view here is this:

blood angels have traditionally been noted as having more suits of artificer armour than just about any other chapter.

whilst I think it’s totally right to point out that other chapters should have jump pack honour guard for their chapter master if their chapter master uses a jump pack (note: sanguinary guard aren’t, in lore, meant to be a big group of random captain bodyguards, there’s meant to be 18 of them, including the chapter banner bearer and champion (neither of which we have rules for anymore))

what I do think is that company heroes need a jump pack generic equivalent to represent assault companies or some chapters first company captains retinues.

and I think (as already stated) there should be a more versatile chapter champions unit that blood angels, dark angels, space wolves and ultramarines cannot take.

So the Sunday preview confirms there’s no miniature reveal tomorrow.

I was holding out hope for a decent suite of post-Armageddon Marines but this is genuinely the most lack luster and uninspiring Marine release in years. Nothing is bad but it’s so…boring.

And this is coming from someone who only has the time for one army and chose Ultramarines.

When someone who literally only collects the poster boys  is uninspired, you know they messed up.

Eradicators, Ancient, and Jump Chaplain sprue being sold (Erads in own box too). Ancient not being sold separately makes sense but Jump Chap makes me think that that is a kneejerk reaction to box sales as that is mainline character

What do you mean?

They're all on the same sprue. The greater surprise is the recut heavy Bolter eradicators. I wouldn't have expected the rest separately as per the last few editions of these sprues.

Preorder announcement, along with eradicators being recut into their own kit, but still the same poses?

Still no preview for the parts in the new Intercessor set. Ork players needed convincing to buy the new models, while Space Marines are considered a guaranteed sale. They don't need to show the product to us properly I guess.

Being honest did you have interest in one anyway?

Judging by the responses in the Facebook group, we really didn't need convincing to buy them. The new ork kits are genuinely superb. The return of back plates on the Boyz is very welcome.

Maybe the announcement tomorrow will be the Astartes 2 release date?

I’m holding out hope that Valrak is right about the venerable dreadnought coming in the future

I'm more wondering if this will be those new paints that leaked a while ago

The heroes of the chapter type sprues have previously come out much much later, and I wouldve thought the Jump Chaplain would surely get its own/standalone release for a reasonably inconic character

Preview show announcement would be my guess.

A thought on the "boring" Maine releases, specifically the Intercessors.

These kits are not just for veterans with dozens in their collections already. They are also for the hobbyist who just got into 40k recently, and is ready to start buying.

Yes, we the legacy players will buy new miniatures obviously. Not ever kit needs to be crazy poses or enticing details. Battleline units can be plan, it's ok. We can dress them up with bits, decals, and yes paint.

My only disappointment in this release cycle was Vanguard Vets not having lightening claws. I love the idea of the Veterans of the First having similar weapon options across armor types.

Imagining my First Company Sgt needing mobility in the coming fight equipping his squad with jump packs instead of Terminator suits, but still taking to the skies with their iconic dual lightening claws.

I'll miss that. I had the parts and spare set of Armageddon Vets ready to go.

I dunno, I think the only thing I'll get is Konorius

It's weird. Back before Armageddon got announced, I was pretty hyped going off of Valrak's rumors. Riding high from those and the Yarrick trailer, etc.

Then they did the trailer for Armageddon (meh, imo) and showed the box and I was solidly in the "some nice things (like the Captain) but I'll wait because hopefully the multipart kits are better." Then they started showing off stuff and it kept going into the "well, that didn't do it for me, maybe the rest will be better"

Now they're here and and I am fully non-hyped. Maybe the chapter specific stuff will scratch the itch more.

*edit, also I assume tomorrows announcement is the replacement for mini of the month, they said that would "be in a few weeks" a few weeks ago. Hopefully it's something more, but I think that's it

The Ork equivalent also came out at the same time as their codex.
