The Wardens and Dawn eagle kits are both sticking around though. The only kits that we are losing are the basic guards and Valerian and Aleya. 

 

We are also losing rules for the Landraider, Venerable Contemptor and Saggitarum which sucks but isn't totally surprising.

Very interesting that Eyes of the Emperor are specifically called out. Leaving the door open for potential new releases? Or maybe just the lore has a bit more room to breath now with the extra page count.

On the livestream when they announced the new box (when the 2.0 model for custodes started) they were asked about 40k and their line for the normal custodes was they can be used as proxies.

 

They didnt say this line is replacing the old guard. They were cagey. Personally, they could have handled the messaging around the new line better. It is good to see now they are being a lot more firm.

The new ones definitely are not on 50mm. And thanks to the lack of top knot they are ever so slightly shorter.

The Aquilons are the first real L for me of the Custodes plastification. I much preferred the resins; they had both bulk while not looking nearly as lumbering and crude as Cataprachtii which suited them perfectly.

 

The new ones look a lot more awkward, closer to Centurion suits almost with those drooping arms and the giant raised cowls.

Agreed. The FW design had them as mini Telemons. Now they are mini contemptors with height envy.

Personally I dont hate them but the poses are unfortunate, they just look very stiff without also having any kind of weight to their pose, I think a more dynamic posing will make them look a hundred times better.

 

It may not be a high bar but at least they look a million times better then the Allarus and their weird 80s shoulder pads.

It's actually brutal seeing them side by side. Even the Allarus has better detailing than the new one. They simply ruined the look of the Aquilons. Look at that pauldron with those horrible baubles and rivets mixed together. The original has 4 gems visible on him while the new one is covered in gemstones, random dots and baubles. Their attempt at filigree is laughable. The trend of laughably small power fists continues. What's the matter? Is the power fist too embarrassing of a weapon for today's super serious world?

They do look easier to transport though... less fiddly bits to bend or break on the train.

Yeah, not particularly digging these. They're fine but I definitely preferred the older designs.

 

As far as power fists go I do agree the trend towards shrinking them is a shame. Bring back Alessio Cortez and his giant gigachad fist!

Not quite sure what's wrong with my statement. Even magnetized, I've bent the spears on my Terminators when the train bumps up and down. 

 

That's why I swapped out all the heads on my Custodian Guard, less bits to break on me.

 

I didn't say I liked them better, just that they looked easier to transport.

 

I wish I had a car to get to the game store, but that's not an option for me right now.

Maybe the reasoning is that it's a higher tech base than the rest of the current Imperium,  thus it isn't so bulky.

 

Just an idea. But it does seem out of place.
