17% less terribly to be precise.

This is legit one of the few times that "Learn to Play" is the problem. If you looked at the Kroot profile at any point of the game's history and thought "yeah this'll be fine into Marines" you're the problem. They weren't even good into Marine SCOUTS.

I feel like you're so close to understanding the problem, but it's just not quite clicking for you.

When you eventually simply don't see these units any more, will the penny drop?

kroot may be a bad example anyway, their lore (apparently, I didn't know this) is that after tau showed up and modified the base kroot rifle with pulse tech, they have the stopping power of a boltgun (which is sort of odd, as its still a basic projectile, but whatever, pulse tech!), so perhaps kroot will get Strength 5.

Who knows. They're apparently early january, so i guess you'll find out then.

Back in the day they had a bolters ranged profile near enough and the same melee profile as an assault marine with a chainsword (the rifle counted as 2 melee weapons) and their profile was the inverse of an ork (S4 T3 compared to the orks S3 T4 and a marines S4 T4).

How times change I guess. Ah well glad two out of 3 of those examples was treated with some respect and given their relevant power fantasy over the editions. I don't imagine we're going to see S5 anywhere near a base kroot though, but appreciate the optimism.

Of course custodes didn't exist back then either so this was all a bit moot.

Dread it. Run from it. Destiny arrives all the same.

I'm sorry, but I feel compelled to quote Star Trek:

Quote

“It’s like a predator; it’s stalking you. Oh, you can try and outrun it with doctors, medicines, new technologies. But in the end, time is going to hunt you down… and make the kill.”

Good ol' Malcolm McDowell...

I've looked through them.

Absolutely wild. I love that 11th edition profiles are relfecting the lore.

This army makes Marines look like Grots. Bring it on.

It really doesn't. The math basically comes out that into the new MEQ you are doing about one more wound on average, and against anything tougher you're doing one less wound.

They're more durable but they are less likely to kill due to losing a lot of the source of rerolls. They will be able to sometimes spike randomly into doing more damage, but they will be less consistent in wiping out T5, the new Boogeyman.

It's a solid place to be. The datasheets are good.

When everyone in the army can be Str10 or higher, Damage 3/4 or higher, Never missing attacks, Marines will die as easily as Grots.

But yes, I'm being hyperbolic. You don't have to take every statement I make literally.

We haven't mathed out the damage, we haven't seen the points, we have no practice with these new rules.

Hmm, now I am thinking should Custodes be my attempt at a foray back into modern 40k?

Yes!

Honestly, they are a compact faction which makes buying, painting and transporting them much easier than a larger army. They are nicely detailed models so you can go to town on the paintjob if you wish but also look good in just red and gold with washes applied.
