However, there was back in the day a very neat Forge World resin variant that had the two railguns attached to separately to left and right arms, for a very dynamic look (though maybe a pain to assemble as a resin kit), with the missiles mounted on the shoulders. I think an ideal set-up would be a flexible kit where you could stick the railguns either to the shoulders or to the arms, whichever way you prefer.

It was this, correct?

I wish, if tau/T´au get new crisis suits, that they would go more towards old FW looks overall

That's the thing! The picture angle might not make it full justice, but I think everyone gets the idea (and there should be more pictures out there online).

I think it looks more balanced and dynamic than the original one with the railguns on the shoulders pointing straight ahead (though I understand others may prefer that look). Speaking of the original, being a plastic model with metal weapons (and some other pieces) meant that somewhat static pose may have been practical, since the model may have been a bit top heavy.

As for the issue of drones, back in the day they used to come on separate sprues that could be shared with the separate sets - though at some point they started to be put on the same sprues with the rest of the kit.

I'd be content for drones to go back to being an actual unit of minis that could be attached to units rather than arbitrary squad members. It means they don't need to be in the bixes by default then and saves a lot of duplication and possibly waste?

There's no fear here, you already missed out.

Oh I know. It got away. In that case, I should have given in to FOMO.

The FW Tau stuff was excellent. I wonder if the resin parts could be finagled to work with the current Crisis suits? Shouldn't be too hard, though actually sourcing the parts might be tricky!

I'll be honest I could take or leave a new Broadside. I preferred the older Crisis-based one but the current one isn't bad, and I don't want a new one to be monopose and with a conspicuous difficult to remove tactical rock. The Crisis suit box is fine as is; the detail level is up to par, the design is iconic and it's fully customizable in both pose and loadout. There really is no reason to make a new one.

New kits for the grav-tanks would be more welcome IMO, if only because the Devilfish-chassis kits are all quite old and have some fit issues if memory serves. They could also give us a Hammerhead with revamps of the old FW turrets and a Sky Ray with an alternate build as a siege tank armed with a "smart mortar" that uses drone-guided munitions, kind of like a Tau equivalent to the old Griffon (or, for a non-40K comparison, the Wraith from Halo, whose main armament was a plasma mortar). Also it's much harder for GW to feth up a tank kit, and with some exceptions (the Rogal Dorn's missing underside and whatever the hell they did to the Marine vehicle fleet are the only smeg-ups I can think of off the top of my head) GW generally does a good job updating vehicles.

Plus, I'll be real, I'd rather see the Tau's non-battlesuit vehicle fleet get some expansion. I much prefer the Tau's focus on combined arms rather than just being "the mecha faction". Not that I don't like battlesuits (love me some mecha) but I do feel they've been flanderized a bit into being the battlesuit guys and nothing else. Which is a shame because I really like the Tau skimmers.

It's sad to think about. It all started to go away by the time I had money to buy all the crazy stuff from the old FW catalog I got in the mail after buying a single character upgrade. I regret not getting the Hive Tyrant and the Wraithknight variants the most.

Yeah I built two devilfish and a hammerhead 2-3 years ago and didn't have any problems.

I'd love to see another alien auxiliary, something brand new (or dog soldiers)

Or some human auxiliary at the minimum.

I could see gue'vesa being a kill team release. Last season was bare of any guard equivalent squads, and the end of this year will see several guard equivalents and Kroot go to KT legends for competitive

Another related issue seems to be the "battlesuit size creep" where the new suits coming out in plastic seem to be getting gradually bigger. Admittedly, the Tau are not the only ones affected, and it might perhaps be seen as a response to other big critters like Imperial knights. But my personal favourites in the Tau range are the smaller guys (fire warriors, pathfinders, drones, stealth and crisis suits).

I didn't know the current Broadside was so unpopular. I think it looks cool.

Aren't the Pathfinders/Warriors still the original kit bit with an extra sprue through Kill Team?

Surely the tanks need updating too at this point, don't they date back to T'au's launch?

The twin-lance and commander farsight are great templates to build the new iteration of crisis suits on. If they start looking anything like this, i might be tempted.

I'd love if they'd introduce a few non-Tau xenos auxiliaries. The Tau codexs is a good vehicle to introduce a few new xenos without needing ot create a whole faction.

I don't know how "new" the current Pathfinders are, Kill Team version aside, but the Fire Warriors aren't the original, they got an updated kit in 7th edition to add the breacher variant and the turret thingy they have.

I think the recent broadside with railgun pose is a great model, but lacks the ability to change it much from the pose.  The railguns on shoulders and missiles in the hands removes the need for magnets and looks neat, could surely get a lot of poseability from it.

I wish the Pathfinder kit would come with the Kill team sprue - rather than just when in the combat patrol box or no longer available kill team box.  I'm trying to get ahold of onne at a decent price and it's eluding me.

The current plastic pathfinders set dates back to 2012, and I don't think there is anything wrong with the figures (though the recon drone is a bit odd design). The add on sprue that comes with the Kill Team version is noticeably newer. (As for pre-2012 pathfinders, those were metal models.)

As for the non-Tau auxiliaries, those would be nice option to add some variety to the lot. Has there been anything new on that front since the Vespid Stingwings were introduced in 2006? Gue'vesa has been on wishlists probably even longer, maybe also the dogmen encountered in Kill Team (the Last Chancers Black Library novel), but there could be room for introducing some other minor races that the Tau have befriended. (Personally, I am not really excited about the Vespid Stingwings, but it is still nice to have them as an option.)

Edit: regarding the current Broadside model, I think the missile arms version looks fine. It is that two-handed twin-linked rail gun that looks clunky and has limited poseability; to my knowledge no other battlesuit weapon is held by two arms like that.

Has there at some point been a "not close combat ethereal"? I think all the ones that I have seen come with blades, pointy stick etc. armaments that are of only any use close up and personal.

Aun'shi was a melee specialist back in 3rd when they launched, he wasn't exactly a monster at melee but for a tau he was only 2nd to farsight and capable of slapping a guard officer about. You're right though the Ethereal honour blades are their weapon of choice and they train extensively for duelling.
