The conspiracy theorist in me says that the datasheet for the blood angels jump pack chaplain is a last second effort to mitigate the mockery of including such an old model in the blood angels battle force.

Absolutely, but the last-minute change is a good change for the consumer.

Does this make it more consistent with other modern Blood Angel models?

Blood Angels have been painted super inconsistently for the last few years - much to my chagrin.

Agreed. Conspiracy or not, at least they're reacting and doing something. They could have ignored it. At least this is showing a level of them being bothered.

Good individual parts, bad stock pose and again an annoying heroic rock base. It's alright, but they really need to give us some character models with both of their feet firmly planted on the ground or with a normal advancing pose. No, crap jokes on the marketing blog about tactical rocks are not actually addressing the issue of every single character being in the same pose. The Dracula collar looks out of place for a non-psychic Marine, but that's not an issue for anyone with a good knife or razor saw. I wouldn't mind the collar on a Blood Angels Librarian as some sort of custom Psychic Hood.

Edit: Why is the backpack different? The light and the sensor package had their sides swapped. Shouldn't be the light be on the side with the dominant tool using hand like it is on every other Apothecary? Seems like an unecessary change. These new updates always have these weird side swaps like Fuegan suddenly being right-handed.

It's ironic that in trying to make every pose more dynamic and unique it's actually made characters feel far more basic as well as reducing base customization.

Tactical skulls or debris instead of rocks would be pretty easy to do

He is awesome. I never was a huge fan of the old corbulo because of metal 2D syndrom. This one looks superb. But I have to agree that the faceplate also gave me ape-vibes, but luckily he has an alternate head option, so I don't care.

Looking forward to paint him up.

Perhaps he's left-handed or it just works better for him that way?

Glad to see my old Progenitor chapter getting some love.

Like the details and updates. However, pose and "aura" feels like a downgrade. I actually like that the old model looks more "in action". Cup and arm extended as far as he can, yelling like his life depends on it. Here is my ******* cup! Behold its glory!

The new model....here I am, holding a cup, looking stoicly bored. On a tactical rock tho!

I'm a bit at odds with the painted black eyes for a character that, ostensibly as far as I know, had a schtick of trying to find the CURE to the Black Rage.  It would be a bummer but also somewhat poetic if he's starting to fall to the Black Rage in whatever updated lore comes with the model and the codex, so I do hope there is some reasoning why his eyes are completely blacked out if it isn't the Black Rage.

On that topic, the only thing I could find about how the BR affects the eyes is it makes the whites yellow (Death of Integrity) and may cause other physical manifestations, but I wonder if this is new lore or what.  Interesting change and at least make SOME sense with the name, but that's a pretty big shift.  Black eyes are a Corax thing already anyways, I don't know.  Feels a little toe-steppy.

I want a better introduction to this model than as a make good.  Kind of disappointing to not give us ANYTHING but that's GW's way.

I think the point here is that the gubbins on top of the backpack had been switched around compared to the original model (see comparison shot on the first page).

Meanwhile, the cup and the chainsword are still held in the same hands they were in the original model. So I doubt that Corbulo has mysteriously become left-handed by the passing of time.

After BA drawing the short straw last time round lets hope this is a sign of good things to come. I just hope they don't go too blingy.

I hate to be a downer but I am expecting that we will just get Corbulo this time around. It is suspicious that he has been missing for a whole edition. I think that the model was designed along with the rest of the wave released in 2024 but it was held back for 11th edition so that they could keep their promise of releasing at least one model with every codex. They have done the same with the Eldar, holding Karandras back for 11th edition when all the other phoenix Lords have been done.

In the video that went with the WHC post, Adam said there are multiple releases coming with the codex

Exactly this, he said multiple kits - which auspex and valrack have both commented on.

i could see it just being corbs and seth

but i could see there being terminators or a terminator captain because both were things valrack once thought were coming then assumed weren’t.

i would actually love it if we got an actual infantry kit - intended to work for intercessors or death company. Similar kit density to grey hunters ideally

BA are missing..

-Seth
- Librarian, Furioso & Death company Dreadnoughts (one can argue all they want about brutalis redemptor)
- Death company kit (not just tacticals painted black with BA upgrade pauldron)
- primarinaded baal predator variant
- Terminators (again, one can argue all about upgrade kit slapped on regular termies)

If my boy Karlean gets a new model (or one that serve as him) I will be ecstatic. My first Blood Angels army was an almost all terminator force lead by Karlean, with loads of kitbashes and the Space Hulk Terminators. I'd love to do a modern remake of that force.

I know there's only so many ways you can hold something up, but his old sculpt felt like it had a bit more 'emphasis' on it being pumped up into the air if that makes any sense? Having one knee raised on something kinda detracts from the 'motion'...

I get exactly what you mean. It's the difference between:

'Behold! The precious blood of Sanguinius!'

And:

'Yay! Have a beer!'

EDIT: In other news, his gorget also reminds me of a toilet bowl.

The Calgar chalice (Chalgar?) is giving me vibes of a demented Garry's Mod animation ala Eltorro64rus. I kinda hope someone makes a conversion STL kit for this now, it's funnier than it has any right to be.

Ahem.

I do agree the pose looks a bit less "powerful" than the old metal one, which really had a lot of character. I wonder if removing him from the rock and mounting him flat on the base would help there, to be fair, as it would force the Red Grail further up. I also feel like his face not being sculpted in a battle cry is a bit of a miss? Though I will say I do really like the masked head, that's a very cool design.

Actually, I did a quick mockup in Krita and yeah, giving him a Tactical Rockotomy and a head closer to the OG improves him a lot, at least in my opinion. Forgive the not exactly incredible digibash skills...
