My initial plan was to paint the snipers' cloaks in an urban camo design, but I decided that this may cause WYSIWYG problems as these Scouts are not equipped with camo cloaks, so I went with simple black cloaks.

Two down, two more to go. :HQ:

Thanks Shatter. :P

Oh, and before anyone asks, the I painted the body of the rifles red: 1) to tie these models into the rest of my predominantly red army; 2) to liven up the grey and black models with a splash of color; and 3) to match the bolt pistols of their squad mates.

Like so many others have said before, your work continues to inspire me Koyote. Awesome, just awesome.

Quick question regarding the new helmets on your ASM squad: did you use a brown ink to shade or did you build up to yellow in layers leaving the brown showing along the edges? What inks/paints did you use? I never use washes/glazes on power armor but I love the results on those helmets - if you used your usual technique I might have to break out of my comfort zone of layering shade and highlights and try it. Have you tried any of the new Citadel washes like Baal Red? I don't know how much of the old inks you've got stored but I'm guessing at some point you'll have to switch.

I started with a white primer. Then I applied a couple of thin coats of Games Workshop's Golden Yellow. Once dry, I applied Games Workshop's OOP Brown Ink to the recessed areas that I wanted to shade. This of course gets a little messy, so I then applied additional thin coats of Golden Yellow to the flat surfaces of the helmet to cover up where the brown slopped out of the recesses. And of course, anywhere the yellow filled in a recess, I went back with brown ink to redefine the shading. As with all of my Blood Angel models, I finished with a matte varnish.

I suggest that if you paint your yellow helmets separate from the body. This makes painting both the body and the helmet easier as it improves access to the parts of the model you want to paint and you don't have to worry about getting any red on your yellow and vice-versa.

I haven't used tried many of the new inks as I still have plenty of the old. However, I have used Devlan Mud. It's fantastic for painting metal (iron/steel). A miracle in a bottle! I use it on all the metal areas on my Blood Angels.

Start with a black undercoat. Then apply two thin coats of Boltgun Metal. Then apply a black wash (mix a tiny dab of Chaos Black and several drops of water). And finally apply Devlan Mud around the recesses as well as a dab here or there on a flat surface.

I used this recipe for my Mordheim Averlander Mercenary Captain's armor and sword. Here I applied a generous amount of Devlan Mud in order to produce a worn/tarnished look.

If you use less Devlan Mud, the metal looks newer yet still natural. You can see the result on the scopes and barrels of my Scouts' sniper rifles (SEE post #526).

Next model on my painting table...

The Sanguinor

As with the Mephiston model the limited space on this model's base restricts what can be done to customize the model, nevertheless I managed to squeeze in a few fun bits.

oh god its alive! shoot it! kill it wih fire! :D

and are those blood angel scouts? the only thing red about them is their weapon stocks :)

joking aside, nice to see your back at the painting table ;) even if its just till Adepticon hits and you revert back to your trolling status :tu:

and are those blood angel scouts? the only thing red about them is their weapon stocks :ermm:

:P

If one's mission requires stealth, wearing bright red is ridiculous, thus my Scouts' uniforms and armor are black and gray. The gray matches the gray on the chest eagles and other adornments of my Blood Angels wearing power armor. The Scouts' with their left should pad exposed bear a red blood drop symbol to indicate their chapter.

:P

when your skulking around in the mids of nights and your armor (and/or cloak) is made of to have stealth properties (forget how its called fluffwise...cameleon? *shrugs*) it beeing bright red isent a bad thing in the slightest :D

in fact, i think it helps. the enemy is fired upon from the dark from snipers. thinking they are weak they charge in only to find BLOOD ANGEL scouts there :P

why hello there! bend over please :D

FINALLY made it thru the entire post. The nerve of customers to keep interrupting my personal time!?!

Outstanding work beginning to the end, Koyote! ;) I will DEFINITELY refer to this thread quite frequently as I endeavor to complete my Knights of Blood Strike Force.

The next model on my painting table...

And since it will transport a squad of Death Company and a Death Company Dreadnought, it will be painted in Death Company colors...

I've added additional emblems and a few more touches here and there. :)

Adepticon 2011 was a blast! Over three days I played 11 tournament games with my Blood Angels. I won 10 games and my only loss occurred in a 40K Championship game against a Blood Angels player from Moscow.

In the 40K Championship tournament I ranked 22nd or thereabouts out of 245(ish) players. I was matched up against a Space Wolf player, two Blood Angels players, and a Chaos Player. All four were an absolute pleasure to play. My favorite opponent being Sid, a law enforcement officer from Oklahoma (?) who played Rogue Trader era Blood Angels.

I took a few photos of my first game, but forgot to take any shots in my second and third games. By the fourth game I gave up on photos of my games for the weekend and focused my camera time snapping photos of friends playing games.

Here are a couple of photos from my first game.

Midway through the Friday, a CoolMiniOrNot guy dropped by my table and asked to take photos of my army. I agreed. If the photos get posted on their website, I will post a link here.

In the Team tournament, Team Blood Angels: The Darkest Hours came in 4th out of 125 teams. We played a Dark Eldar/Eldar/Tau/IG team, a Blood Angels/Nid team, a Space Wolf team, and a Blood Angels team. The first team was awful to play against. Their end game shenanigans was the last straw for me and when the dust settled, I had to walk away from the table and let my teammate take care of the paperwork and signatures. The other 3 teams were all great guys (and one gal) and I would be happy to play against them again.

Scoring 59 out of 60 points for theme, we missed Best Imperial Team by a single point. Kudos goes to OwlandMoonGuy for modeling and painting our awesome display base and the associated models. Also much thanks to Steel Armadillo for agreeing to drop everything in order to serve as a substitute for a player that dropped out at the last minute.

My two best gaming moments both came from the team tournament. The first, was in my first game. Steel and I were getting out butts handed to us, but we caught a lucky break at the very end. My Stormraven arrived late but weathered a storm of fire and then, along with its deadly cargo, broke the back of our opponent on the final turn, securing for us the victory. The second 'best moment' was similar to the first, but this time it was Wadders and myself who were in dire straits. The moment came near the end of the game when my Mephiston survived a combined assault from our opponent's Mephiston, a Blood Angel Librarian, and a 5-marine Blood Angels RAS. My Mephy finished off the Attack Bike Squadron he had been fighting in the previous turn (scoring a much needed kill point) and put two additional wounds on the enemy Mephiston. The Blood Angel pretenders whiffed and I won by three. The RAS and the pretender Mephiston' broke and ran. Luckily for us, they ended their fall back move next to Wadders' Flesh Tearers DC and thus ended the game fleeing.

My final day of tournament play was spent at the privately organized Chumpionship tournament for members of another message board who had flown in from all over the country/world. After two days of serious competition against strangers, it was nice to lie back, relax, and play purely for fun with friends and acquaintances. I won all three games, but came in third. I played against OwlandMoonGuy's Blood Angels, Morticon's Blood Angels, and a Sisters of Battle player.
