House Rackham

“Al Somnia di Magia”

Long since lost to history with the Fall of Madrigal, the Psi-Knights of House Rackham once stood vigil over the Vassal worlds of Akira, and later the Imperial worlds of the Sphere. Mistrusted by the wider Imperium, this Psychic knight Household found sanctuary within the Lightning Bearers Domain and served alongside their expeditions during the Great Crusade.. During the Fall, they fought and died valiantly in the defense of this noble but doomed Legion.

(Psi-Lancer Cervus Renescor, Scion of House Rackham)

This is something that I have wanted to build for a long time. Ever since I entered this hobby I have been infatuated with titans but more specifically the Mysterious Psi-Titans of the Astra Telepathica.

I decided to take the opportunity of modeling a missing legion to include of the the other great unknow mythes of 4ok, and to create a Psi-Knight Titan House to Rackham this area of the lore.

Above is a WIP of my first Knight. The armor is covered in psycho frames to transmit the Pilots Telepathic commands to his mount. The head and Psychic hood were inspired by the work of Dave Taylor on his knight Paladin.

More pictures and hopefully some lore to follow.

@Depthcharge12: I had considered a mask for the titan, but chose not to for two reasons, First It's already been done (way better than I could achieve)

http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/i327/nickfayette1/IMG_0723.jpg?t=1425588571

Second reason, was that I already have the 'samurai thing' covered with the Lightning bearers, so I wanted to try something different that still fit in thematically. Besides, how unlikely would it be that a samurai Knight Household would just happen to serve alongside a samurai space Marine Legion.

I'm gobsmacked.  Every time I see you post something new, my breath is taken away.  I'm looking forward to seeing where you go with the Psi-kinght.  Will they get their own special weaponry?  Or keep the regular stuff, with mods?

Holy Bob the God-Emperor of Mankind, a Psi-Knight?! You're building a Psi-Knight Household?!

Athrawes you glorious son-of-a-grox, your ambition and skill overwhelm me once again, Godspeed you brilliant madman. :D

So how will your Knight be painted? I ask because I remember you said you'd be adding a Legio Ventus Warhound Titan to your army at one point and you showed a WIP picture of it's sweet colour scheme. I think it would look fantastic ifthe Psi-Knight had that same, swirling paintjob.

Also, while I still remember, has there been any progress with your Warhound since then?

I have followed this thread for too long without commenting, I just had to stop and say that this is my absolute favorite WIP thread on B&C and that I consider the Lightning Bearers cannon. I cannot see any other fill the position of the lost II legion as well as you have done. Well done sir, well done. thumbsup.gif

Now with that said: get back to work! I want to see that knight finished! msn-wink.gif

Thanks for all the responses everyone, I'm really excited to finish my Knight(s) as I have a 3000 point game against Depthcharge and a NIghtlords Player in my area coming up soon.

@SanguiniusReborn: The Warhound unfortunately remains unfinished at this point, I started the model right around the time work really ramped up last year and just haven't had the inspiration to continue with it yet (don't worry, my engine WILL walk, but perhaps not for some time. I really don't want to rush such a beautiful model haha.

As for the color scheme, while I like the colors used in the Warhound, I was considering something a little more tied into the Legion. I was planning on using the light Grey of the Legion on the armor plates with brass for the trim and the psycho-frames. A dark almost gunmetal color for the titans superstructure. The head or rather the faceplate will be painted glossy black with my best shading to pick out three backlit 'eyes' shining through the darkness of the psychic hood. The shoulder plates (in contrast to the rest of the armor) will be painted a highly polished brass like the armor trim. At that point, I was thinking of adding silver swirl patterns on the brass shoulders to tie the model in with the Warhound Titan.

I just have this really strong vision of the color scheme in my head, I think it will look striking (yet fit in with the colors of the Legion)

Thoughts?

The one choice I haven't made yet is House Rackham's crest. For a while I was thinking it would be a stag or elk, maybe even a unicorn? Understand, that it doesn't have to be an asiatic mythical creature. But I really don't know yet. I would be happy for suggestions on what you lot think would look cool and/or fitting for a psychic knight household.

Aww, that's a shame, that pale aqua-green-with-silvery-swirls scheme looked really unique, I can't wait to see the Warhound when it's finished.

That colour scheme for the Lancer sounds very interesting, the brass-and-silver-swirls shoulder plates sounds cool. I love the idea of the three "eyes" glowing through the black faceplate, did you get that idea from the Hive in Destiny by any chance?

As for the House Rackham crest, I'm torn between the Stag, simply because it's cool, noble and isn't an animal that's used very often in 40k insignia, and the Unicorn, because it's also a majestic, noble creature whose mystical nature ties in well with the psychic nature of House Rackham. It also fits with the Knight's nature as a Lancer, so yay theming! Plus you also have to consider the satisfaction of your defeated foes knowing they were slain by a pony.

Here is are two of the Armor plates painted in the color scheme for reference. I think it's going to look striking on the table next to the Lightning Bearers.

Mmm-hmm, lovely, just as I thought. I'm looking forward to your next tidbit of awesome. :)

The white parts could do with a few glazes of white to make the transition between the white and the not-so-white a bit smoother. The brass and the swirling patterns are gorgeous though. It will indeed look striking next to your IInd Legion models.

I'm nearing completion on painting the Psi-Lancer's Legs and Torso (and corresponding armor plates), So be looking for a photo update either tonight or tomorrow.

And so with the first knight speeding ahead, I'm being to look towards plans for the next knight.

For this knight, I wanted to create a titan sized 'psycannon' or find something close enough that it could be converted to resemble this image:

http://th00.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/f/2010/179/d/8/Reaver_Titan_by_tutzdes.jpg

Do any of you guys know of a good Knight-Titan sized weapon that could be used as a base for a psycannon conversion?

And now a few of the more interesting details:

(Psychic Hood and Tri-Eye)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This is the current state of my Psi-Lancer. Please let me know what you think as I loath painting vehicles, I just never seem to do them justice. That is also why there is such sparse armor in the Lightning Bearers tongue.png .

I'm also very interested to hear your thoughts on the Unicorn Crest I decided on for the House. I like the circle imagery as it ties in with the empire of the Sphere, but I'm not sure about the color. The other choice from silver was red, but I do really like the subdued elegance of a silver unicorn.

Finally, I'd still appreciate any help you can give me, in trying to source a model weapon that could serve as the basis for a psycannon conversion as seen in the artwork I posted before.

I am officially stunned at the magnitude and quality of what this project has become.

Loving the titan and the well-themed psyker unit.

Thank you so much for investing so much in this project, it is and continues to be my favourite part of the entire hobby right now.

I feel that if your gonna do the three eyes it would be better if it were modeled on rather than painted, painted on they feel flat and rather like poka dots than eyes. Just my two cents :) But otherwise I love this project, and cant wait to see moar!

He stands upon a pale hill with starlight in His eyes.

The mask, a silent howl, a vicious grin upon Him lies.

His Sword is heavy His soul is light, though we needn’t wonder why,

as before Him lay a hundred dead and above Him spreads the sky.

But soon the light fades, as He hears a word, a whisper from all around.

He tilts his helm, in acknowledgment, as the wind begins to sound.

The wind it is said, carries words of fate, Promises to mislead and beguile.

But He stands in silence mockingly, and like His mask, begins to smile.

So denied, the wind howls, as He utters a phrase, and as always He turns away.

For again, as before, it promised Him death and the Man whispered “not today."
