To be honest, I don't really like this miniature; something feels off. I tried to make the metal dull and added dirt and grime. But I'm not sure how well it turned out.
I'm generally not a fan of dirt on miniatures, as it usually obscures the model itself. Here, I tried to make the dirt visible without obscuring the main paint job.
It was wonderful. Everyone loves to paint yellow...
Finished painting the sniper. He's another unusual character on the team. According to the attributes on his armor, and this is Crux and instead of the seal of purity, a skull in an iron halo, he is at least lieutenant.
I made it as nondescript as possible (as far as is possible for an imperial fist.
And my pledge is actually complete. Here's the whole crew, the dreadnought, and the ruins. Actually there is one unpledged
So next one is ready. It's a simple intercessor and I leave him unscratched. I tried to make his yellow as pure as possible. I also managed to find the right colors for the bags and holster.
I made it completely flat matte and painted all the highlights myself.
A very funny experience.
As for gun I use same approach as for dreadnought gun. Every time NMM is easier and easier. Now I wanna paint something like very shiny knight or space marine or knight - space marine
And the sergeant is ready. I slightly changed the color scheme by removing two unnecessary (as it seems to me) colors.
Overall, I'm happy with the result, except for the helmet. Red is a really finicky color for me. I'm left with an unused captain that I don't want to use in the kill team. I'll try to make a blood angel out of him.
Ok, assault intercessors drunk a lot of my blood and nerves while I trying shoot them with proper level of detail AND the same colors I see on them and put on them.
Hysterical googling gives nothing except few photography guidelines which ain't help cause my phone camera has almost no settings.
After some more research I found solution thanks to book published in 1937... It's about painting scenery. But it's helps. If applied to our hobby, main thing is average value. And since minia
I rested yesterday and now I'm ready for a next project. It's linked with dread. While I'm working on the dread I was focused on NMM. In this project I want to learn more about values and color saturation.
I use same recipe for yellow, though I add neutral grey into pallet for colors desaturation.
Here is Assault intercessor grenadier. Since killteam starter doesn't had one I kitbashed him using his own hand. I cut off his bolted and glued together two Cadian castellan's chains
So, that yellow guy is done.
It's great model, though I don't wanna paint anything big for some time.
Finished glow and put remaining metal all around.
Right arm is glued on it's place. Finished ammo box and added some metals on leg.
After the horror of barrels other parts are going smooth.
Im add metals in different styles gloss, matt, damaged, dark, light. Tbh it would be faster just make him with one approach, but this "project " is more like training model.
Next would be painted parts like barely above ammo box and I'll switch to power fist which I don't know how to paint
i. Worn and torn metal on fingers and armor
That was easy. I've expected it would turns some horrible brush fencing on tips of barrels but it's turns pretty easy.
I coat it black. Once it dries put few glazes of deep magenta. And wait again. Put some white highlights here and there and add few glazes of night blue. And another glaze of magenta on top and sides.
For reference I uses my stove pipe (:
...over and over again expecting... paintjob to change...
Ok, Insanity is working just fine. Got result. Barrels looks nice. Now it's need a lot of fixes, secondary reflections like Dread's hull or base elements.
It's great experience and challenge.
Would be glad for criticism and feedback.
Did I ever tell you what the definition of insanity is? Insanity is doing the exact... same thing... over and over again expecting... Something to change... That. Is. Crazy
Looks like I bite more than can chow.
Heh, for some reason I had feeling I'm kind of artist and can do anything I can want.
There is 4th attempt to paint cursed Gatling cannon. First 3 are just a mess. Im add base coat, it's all right. Add first layer and it's almost fine, add second and get all ribbed tub
A bit of update.
Done with sarcophagus, exhaust and reactor. For sarcophagus I go with a bit bluish steel it's gloss and a bit reflective. At least it's reflect three pegs on the top and white lamp on the right.
For exhaust and reactor i choose a satine finish. I like result but yellow reflections on reactor.
Should I make them bigger and run across top edge?
Or leave them as is?
Exhaust is just fine. You see it's metal it's scratched.
Also should I add some tints to
A little update. I'm finished general work on the dread. Yellow is good enough and now damaged. I won't it be metallic so damage made a la ceramite is visible under the paint.
Now I started metal parts and first is a launcher on the top. I wanna it polished and reflective. It's work fine almost from all directions. As far as it's a game piece, nemesis for my angel of death team so it's should be enough( but I would be glad for honest feedback and criticism, you don't make me afraid)
There's a nice freehands on b&c recently so instead solving errors in my yellow and finishing the dread for CtA I'd wasting time and got tons of fun.
I'd try add simple ribbon with single word
Well, it's looks like I succeed and then Mr. I can do better in me start wasting even more time. It's not like it's something new I just paint NMM on flat surface so ... Good experience and fun to do.
"Mommy, Mommy look! I'm painturh!"
"Ok, Timmy,
Here we have yellow horror and not the Red terror.
Now I'm working on redemptor for Imperial fists.
Yellow. Yellow is my favorite color to look at but not to paint.
The plan is simple. Clear, bright yellow to orange gradient and NMM steel for all but armour.
There is very little progress so far. I'd blocked flat panels. Put base colours for steel and waste a lot of time painting little stupid landscape in reflection on leg . And it's looks like my phone have issues w
This guy done. It's took a lot. Result is almost what I want. It's still need touches here and there but I'm just burnet a bit. So I sealed it with varnish. Everything would be based together once Plague Marines are done.
That's a nice mini and this is a great experience of building this much trims and curvy details with NMM.
Most the time I spend fighting face panel. I like the result and funny it's a simpliest part. Once I reached flat parts real proplems appears. And the rear leg t
This year I participate for a first time. I choose few small pledges in various strongholds, just to be sure I would finish them in time and wouldn't get frustrated with another 2,500 pts of guards.
I'm selected two kill teams for astartes and Death Guard and red terror for xenos strongholds.
Wish me a luck.
