    Wrapping Wreckas

    By zulu.tango

Hit the throttle on the Wreckas last week. I've been painting pretty slowly this year all things considered, decided to change that with this project. Finished up free-hand on a few items, got the squigs painted up, did the bases and oil washes last week resulting in a final project I'm pretty happy with!    I dug out some of the leftover terrain bits I had from the sector imperialis/Chalnath terrain. I put a fine terrain paste around those bits and then put in some sand to act as larg

    Jagieŀŀo inspects their prizes

    By GSCUprising

The Resistance have finally captured the war machines they believe they require to make their stand.   Brutus, the Malcador, reliable, dependable the spine of their battleline. She will not fail them. She will hold the line, her battlecannon roaring, her sponsons blazing as she paves the way for the Resistance's advance. XIVth Legion build

    By W.A.Rorie

So am I back from Indiana. I have to head back to move In-Laws into a Retirement Center, in a few weeks. And of course everything goes sideways at work moment I get back. So hobby time has been non existence. Silver Lining is LGS not get Saturnine until Monday, so I can get everything I need to do first i.e. my XIXth Legion and Exorcists  Call to Arms Vows, that I have not started. And won't have time this weekend.   I did start on building one of My XIVth Legion Commanders, not sure w

    Square Pants Bob

    By Bouargh

Hi Folks,   Today’s blog entry is a little bit specific as it deals with something different from my usual inputs: instead of reporting hobbying progress, I will talk about a trail I did for a new technique (à la TITH – i.e. something that is not new in general but new for me).     The technique is often reported on purpose of adding details and create battle damages or war-torn marks on miniatures. But beyond painting damages, the sponge might be used on purpose of

Kit bash time - the Ranger

Hi Folks,   Within the bitz management policy I've tried to set, one of the directions I was planning to work on was increasing my Saim-Hann with an additional unit of Rangers. In fact I wanted to do some Corsairs' Ghostwalkers. I imagine a good colour scheme would help. Yet I think I will stick to the Saim-Hann red livery.    The kit-bash has been based on old ooP Guardian bodies and spare parts from Rangers and Shroudrunners. At the moment, some finishing touches

A Saim-Hann Vanguard patrol - a CtA25 completed vow

Hi Folks,   After a forced break into my paint job (temperatures raised too much for one week and paint was drying so fast on the brushes that it was just impossible to make anything decent (and/or with an aspect that wasn’t the one of a crusted pie…). I therefore stopped for a while, waiting for more decent temperatures. It has been a little bit of a challenge to overcome the frustration as the work to be done was limited to final touches on a single miniature, my Wayleaper Autar

Origin of an obsession

Hi Folks, Another week, another progress report for CtA25. Although my second vow in the Xenos faction is not yet completed, it is closer of its ending than of its beginning. Indeed, after completing some Warpspiders last Saturday, I finally started working on the hoods, heads and weapons of the Shroudrunners which were set on standby for 3 weeks. I expect completing them in a couple of days, even if they are far from being what I consider as a good paintjob of mine while comparin

Tangling razor cutting webs

Hi Folks,   It looks like I recovered a painting rhythm worth of the one I had during lock-down. Indeed, I completed a new squad into something like 3 days again. This time we talk of Warp Spiders. These Spidey’s fan boyz (and girlz) were pre-painted separating them into 4 batches: Bases, Bodies, Warp Generators and Weapons. Then they underwent final assembly. This is where the things went less comfortable. I must admit I did my clipping poorly and mixed parts that do not cor

CtA25 - More Progress

Hi Folks,   It is astonishing how much hobby tasks you can complete when kids are in summer camps. Last few days saw me completing the Rangers and the Spirit seer. Whereas I also started priming and making the cloaks on the shroudrunner riders.       It is therefore a total of 15,5 points painted out of the 38 pts vow.   And the rest of the pledge is already quite well launched, with only WarpSpiders being in a state of still being on s

CtA25 - Progress report for Second Vow

Hi Folks,   Less than one week after pledging a second vow, I already have some progress with one completed unit of Wraithguards.     And a small close up on one WG:     One big advantage of the Saim-Hann paint scheme (oand of COntrast color range) is that is is relatively easy to harvest quick results. Without any kind of irony, I can say that I spent as much time painting and flocking the bases that doing the bodies and heads.

Does it means this army is complete?

... well probably, or at least for a while.    Hi Folks,   A little big small update on my Drukhari force. Initially designed to be used as Ynnari units only the death of the Aeldarii index (caused by the release of the Codex) led to declassing of many unit options. And left me with as much units that could not be fielded along Crafworlders than units than could. This seeded the idea of compelting the army to a minimum size, big enough to be playable without any kind of objec

CtA25 - 1st vow Completed

Hi Folks, 6 weeks and 7 units painted. Considering almost 2 weeks hiatus due to family business and some welcomed holidays, it is not that bad. But, wait a minute… 7 Units? Let’s check: -          One Archon (kit bashed) -          One Raider -          Two Venoms -          Ten Kabalites (Hand of the Archon) -          Ten Witches -          One Succubus That’s a confirmed 7 counts. Which also means that my first pledge for CtA25 is now complete!

CtA25 - Vow 1 - 3rd week progress report

Hi Folks, 3 weeks have passed and died since the launch of CtA25 and I already have a significant progress on my pledge. The first 2 weeks allowed me covering the painting of the Hand of the Archon and my kitbashed Archon. 1 unit per week, as per my usual painting rate when I am fully dedicated.   Yet these last days I progressed significatively shifting all my enlisted vehicles into the “painted” section of the list. Which raised my rhythm to 3 units in one week. Anecdotally

CtA25 - Vow 1 - Week 2 progress report

Hi Folks,   This second week ends up with 2 completed units: the Kabalites (Hand of the Archon) and the kitbashed Archon.     Some close ups of the Kabalites:     The scheme is going to be reproduced once again on the crew members for the Venoms.   The Archon (also aligne din the Master of the Forge subchallenge) is based on a kit bash from a GSC Magus:     The Venom motojets will be my next unit to be completed in t

(Space) Elves at work

Hi Folks,   Some 5 days after the kick-off of CtA25, I have managed some serious progress on my first units enlisted in my Xenos' pledge.   Kabalites bodies are now completed and the kit bashed Archon may probably require only a few corrective touches of 0000 brushed plus basing.   You can see bellow that I did not changed my scheme and sticked to the Arkhelian blue. Sorry, it is supposed to be a green.     Next step will be heads and weapons.

What my first vow for CtA25 will look like

Hi Folks,   While the countdown to CtA25 launch date is slowly but surely reducing, it has been time to revisit my list of stuff available for being enlisted. As I am still in the queue for some bases ordered, stuff I need in order to progress on my Corsairs kitbashes (a contribution likely to reach 30/35 pts easily within a more global 70 pts and something of Aeldarii) I have decided to phase my vows in a different order.   The first key decision is to go Drukhari. And

How to save an half sliced Banshee

Hi Folks,   As part of the various tasks listed on my To Do List, one entry was associated to the rescue of an old miniature I have for years. A Banshee exarch model that I bought when GW made the trasition from lead models to White MetalTM. Youngsters among us probably won't understand what it is about. But to make it short: it is a good synonym for a long long time ago!!!    This model was initially bought in order to recover the power axe and model it as a hand weapon for

Ynnari Priestess - a quick kitbash

Hi folks,   I have decided to refrain from painting anything 40k related for the next 30 days, until the launch of CtA25. yet, in the mean time, it does not mean I have suspended all hobby stuff. Models to be painted require being prepared and built for example.  In this vein, I had this Magus character from the GSC Combat Patrol left. And, as you might know, I do not play GSC (and/or pretend I do not hobby these lads neithers). What can I do with this model if it is not GSC?

Evil gooses. And armed to teeth.

Hi folks.   It is done. These Scourges couldn't stay WIP for too long. I took oportunity of some free time on Saturday to complete the bodies and put final glue touch. I end up with enough models to build up 2 squads, distributing the HW between these. I preview deployments with a anti-tank tooled up squad and an anti-infantery/multi-purpose squad. Assault weapons were kept as spare parts to kit bash some Corsairs from all these extra Guardians bodies I have stored. But this will

Ornithology

Hi Folks,   I did not plan painting my scourges right now, yet I couldn't help but starting them, mainly for lack of primer rattlecan: I cannot prime anything ang the spures of the scourges were already primed a while ago (Once upon time in a Realm far far away...).    If I set back the true reason of getting these scourge I can list 2 which arrive close at the end of the race: 1. Getting spare parts for kit bashing COrsairs from Guardians body: Special weapons and Carab

Aether Sailing - Part IV - And now comes the Raider

Hi Folks.   Although I did not benefit from the bank holiday at 100% (Being in a new position I have no day off allowed to complete and extend such vacationnal opportunities atm) I managed to complete the painting of the Raider in a very short time span. I am slowly recovering the production rhythm I had last year at the same date, before moving and losing my hobby space. Temperatures raising allowed me to invade the green house set next to the hhouse, although I shall store my paints

Aether Sailing - Part III - Ravager

Hi Folks,   Even I've started my test model on a Raider, I slowly but surely switched to the Ravager before completion of the former. My vehicle hunter has therefore arrived to port COmpletion earlier than the troop carrier.   This kit has been complicated to assemble once came the moment of the sponsons. By prepainting I affected most of thicknesses for stems and grooves because of too thick layers. Some assemblies required therefore removing paint and or cutting a little bi

Aether Sailing - Part II

Hi folks,   Work has progressed these days. Both hulls and sails are now done for the Raider and the Ravager.    The raider is closing to completion, with all main parts done, except the crew. The sailors operating this assault barge are about 50% done, with all base colours applied; detailing will take more time, especially the weapons as I tried new tricks, a.k.a. not painting their tools of death in a single colour... It is a process. So it requires time.

Aether sailing - Part I

Hi Folks,   It has been a while since I touched to my Dark kins.   My initial motivation was guided by the reinforcement of my (old, very old) Aeldarii army. My plan was to go Ynnarii and add a tactical depth brought by the deep striking Dark Eldars plus some signature units such as Scourges and Mandrakes. The plan was blown away by the Release of the Aeldarii codex. Which left me with some minis unbuilt and waiting in the pile of shame.    I decided it was tim

Void Dancers: Narrative for "Knives in the Shadows" challenge

Hi Folks,   Today's contribution will be a different one: the narrative due to come along the painted minis for the "Knives in the Shadows" challenge. An exercice I am not very familiar with. Let's see how it sorts out:   ____________________________________________   The master of the Esdainchii was carefully watching at the stage. The troop was jumping and flipping around, dancing a Masque very few had seen played, even among the near immortal Asuryanii. As f

Void-Dancers: a kill team for the "Knives in the Shadows" challenge

Hi Folks,   After a while disconnecting from the hobby due to material contingencies including a home relocation (New Year / New Job challenge), I resumed this quarter hobbying with a small KT for the challenge hosted there:   https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/384972-knives-in-the-shadows-sign-up-thread/?do=getNewComment   I selected the team on the basis of simple criterias: - being usable in 40k as a standardized unit - completing holes in my Aeldari

Digressing about Aeldarii Corsairs...

Hi Folks,   My Curiosity/Interest/Call-it-like-you-want has been activated some weeks ago when Valrak's runoured that the Eldar Corsairs could have a kind of extended release of new units forming a new xenos' faction. Incredulity was my first feeling. Indeed, my references, or at least what comes to my mind when Corsairs are mentionned, is the army list published in FW Imperial armour book vol.11: The Doom of Myrmeara.   Since that time, the Drukhari evolved in such a pr
