CtA 26 -Pteraxii
Hi Folks,
This summer of 26 is really to be marked as an awful era for painting. With all the heat waves (and no climatization), a large amount paints has dried out and my hobby productivity as dropped down. Over the past 5 weeks or so I have managed to paint from scratch a little bit less than 10 models: 5 dwarves for ToW and 5 Pteraxii.
But wait a minute. 5 Pteraxii? Weren’t these a part of my pledge for CtA26? Yes, they are. And they also were the last minis still undone. It means I have finished that pledge!
Hooray...
But with limited enthusiasm though these models were as painful to paint as the previous ones I did a few years ago. A souvenir I had obliterated from my memories.
What about these cyber psychobats? I might have pretended a small hesitation before building them with flamers or needle guns. But in the end the flamers prevailed as I find them more useful than needle gun that deliver as much shot for 5 Petraxii than 10 Skitarii. As the characteristics are not that different in terms of damage output, the Pteraxxi might become useful due to their increased M and with saturation of an area if numbers climb to 10. But I do not find these arguments to be sufficient as wingspan is such that most Pteraxii will die before making a useful back flip (LoS baby...). And no way that I paint 5 more of these lads.
Flamethrowers for everybody then. The only change I have made vs. the previous unit is building up the alpha with the torch and making a few modifications on a body meant to be a standard trooper so that he becomes the alpha. Like that the 2 units are less similar.
What is the result? Here is the full unit:
I have some issues with metallics as these paints look like they suffered more of the heat than other, with lumps of metals flakes. So some of the most obvious areas where this phenomenon led to a lack of shiny metal will have to be corrected one day.
Some details on the alpha and one minion:
What else? Not that much. There is still 1 month for CtA26 and I may pledge something else. But I have to give it a though. After all I also have some ToW miniatures t paint before the end of the month for a game and I may give it priority…
See you.
