  1. I prefer the former, based on the group shot in your library, squads will stand out on the tabletop. Depending on whether they are codex compliant, you could reserve the black pad for Sergeants or other ranks - it does look good with the gold border. Just my tuppence - both look good!

  3. If you believe the astropaths, my shipment is on its way through the warp and should land on Monday, so I'll hopefully have something to show off by next weekend.

  5. Oh, most crucial part, you always should apply all highlights strokes from darkest part to brightest, or magic won't work. I mean literally move brush tip to center of highlight. Also stroke should be coaxial to brush bristles. This way you get thinnest layer on start of stroke and thickest in the end. Like for shoulderpads you apply brom border to center. For gorget from shoulders to center, etc.

  6. As always it's all imho, and obviously it could be wrong way to do things. Simple? Zenithal(black all over, grey 45 degree, white from the top) and ork flesh contrast for armor. Machanicus standard + administartum gray for rubber joints and gold of your choice for trims. Complex? Black primer, Caliban green all over armor, lahmia medium + warpstone glow 2:1 - 3 layers on areas to highlight(AI already show you areas to highlight) each layer smaller then former by ~0,5-1mm depends how smooth you wanna transition to be. Add moot green into the mix and more medium so it's 3:1:1 and continue to add layers. If result isn't pop enough for you add some corax white in the end and highlights more. Mechanicus standard + administratum for rubber. Gold of your choice.

  7. You can absolutely use Black Templar decals and paint over them. It depends on your brush control, but you can easily touch them back up if needed. My Dark Angels successor uses the normal logo but in yellow and I do the same (although you have green which will go easier over the black).

    We almost there...

Agreed, I'm only a bit sad it's come only when army almost complete. And yeah, all barrels are drilled. That's the point of hobby, isn't it? Painting dark green and khaki not fun. At least not in second time. My old army was standard Canadians and it's lead to funny moments, like we play 3k game IG vs IG and turn two we can't understand is it my unit or his.

To be honest, I've no experience with 3D printed stuff, but will keep an eye on this thread to learn more.

  11. Thank you both @Lathe Biosas and @Domhnall. Your time is much appreciated. I've always been a little spare with my writing. I like the idea of a reader thinking for themselves, as opposed to me spoon-feeding them every detail. I see it as a compliment to my readers' intellect. That said, I can see there's always room for improvement, to let the mask slip, as it were. I'll take both your points into consideration when I pick up the pen and paper (or keyboard and screen). Thank you very much. Take a look at the latest entry I penned this eve. Hopefully, it will show another side to the story. OK, OK! I'll have it done week's end. :P

  12. Not sure how much use this is going to be, or if I can convey exactly what I'm thinking, but I think I can understand what is meant by a little stiff. There is a good chunk of the writing is short and sharp, giving the writing a quick pace and moving forward rapidly, at the expense of fluff (character reasoning/world building etc). That's not to say this is necessarily a bad thing! I think it works well for the short snippets type of story you have so far. It'd be more of an issue if/when you wanted to write something a bit longer. You'd need to provide a bit more meat on the story bones, give the reader time to digest and take in what's going on and why. Like I say, I quite like the quick pace and minimal background information on these really short stories, because as the reader I'm well equipped to make assumptions based on what I'm reading and implied context, so I don't need a deep understanding of the why's, just that a thing needs to happen, and it's happening now! Hope this helps.... ?

  15. Your Green Templars caught my eye after reading that excellent short story you posted, about a Templar returned from the Deathwatch. I didn't comment there, so thought I'd make amends here by trying to help! Greens tend to be quite forgiving in application, but the eye is very sensitive to variation there. I recommend keeping the base-coating as quick and simple as possible, so you can spend your time on the fun detailing stuff. If you're after the effect of that first image (the warm, slightly metallic green with the helmet on), you could get a long way towards it by priming with Retributor Armour, then applying Ork Flesh Contrast over the top, avoiding the areas you want to remain gold like the pauldrons and right knee. That'll deal with the great bulk of your work in two steps, and keep things as smooth and consistent as possible. If you want the cooler green of the second image, try Terradon Turquoise over Retributor Armour. The ever-excellent Chaosbunker has this extremely helpful article on using Contrasts over different paints, which included these images from GW Chelmsford. You can see the effect of various greens on the bases in the right-hand column: If you want to see it on a marine, the example (not mine) through this link shows a Space Marine painted with Terradon Turquoise over Retributor Armour; which should give you a rough idea of how the cooler green would look.

  16. This is a great video showing how someone painted a green/black Space Marine very quickly to a very nice standard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ataC0VZDVx8 I have used this technique myself for different colors and can confirm - it works incredibly well. You will get miniatures that look about 10x better than you expect for the time it takes to paint them. Here are some Space Marines I just did with a steel/silver main color, using this exact technique: https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/385834-phandaals-completed-projects-necrons-space-marines-2026/#findComment-6151025 Highly recommend!

    Zofia & Róża

Thank you. Much as I never intended on Laska and the Narrator to get together, this one just felt natural. A few lingering looks, a brush of the fingers over the other's skin...it just worked for me. I must admit, it was a little nerve-wracking writing about it. What do I know about two women in a relationship? The answer is 'very little', which, funnily enough, is also the answer to how much I know about Ratlings. So, I tried to write it so you could substitute either one or both for a different gender and for it to still work. I also ran it past two friends of mine, two women who've been together for 15-odd years and got their approval, which I was very happy about. It's funny how the story sometimes takes on a life of its own. I mean, this originally started out as a GSC story - now it's completely different!

  29. I’m looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I’ve always like Grey Knights, a feeling probably reinforced a fair bit by ADB’s Emperor’s Gift novel. This being done in true scale is an added visual bonus!

    It's Worbla-ing Time...

Worbla is a thermoplastic, so it has different properties when you change its base temperature. In this case, if you heat worbla it goes from being a fairly hard plastic to something much more malleable- you can bend/shape it and even mash it together to sculpt with (though it does lose temp quickly so you have to work fast). It is a product that is used a lot in certain crafting circles, I saw it used in both making custom dolls/action figures and in cosplay. It isn't too expensive to get, and all you need to change it's temp is a heat gun, so it is an effective way to add stuff like skin/clothes to models if you don't want to mess around with actually sculpting with greenstuff/epoxies.

  34. Hmmm... my local Warhammer store says I can't make a pledge to paint unless I bring in unpainted and unassembled models until after January 16th. So, I'm going to simply envision what these guys will look like assembled until then. I did order some bits for soon to be Green Templar Vulkan He'stan.

Seriously, most of us fall off the posting wagon every now and then. Don't worry about it. We're just glad you are okay now.

I think.. you should really think again, cause painting army you don't really like is always leading to abandonment and new army. But yeah, knights of raven gonna be really easy to paint.
