So, I logged onto GOG a few minutes ago and forgot that I had picked up a White Dwarf issue at the store a year ago, and It had a code in it for GOG, and it gave me a ton of warhammer games.6 points -
The Start- My hobby journey, how the Forgotten came to be, and a new beginning
GSCUprising and 2 others reacted to Lord_Ikka for a blog entry
So far I'm really enjoying Crusade (week 4, which is the end of Phase 1 of our campaign) and am probably going to continue playing it whenever I can, with whatever army I'm able. I wasn't super enthusiastic at first- why play with old models that have been sitting on the shelf for a half-decade, but it has turned out to be one of the better 40k experiences I've had recently. Getting to go back and re-do all my lore, turning the Forgotten into extremely angry, bitter Fallen rather than the noble knights that they were originally intended to be is just fun. Since the Forgotten were supposed to be Fallen hunters, I find it quite amusing that they are now Fallen themselves, though disdainful of the gifts of Chaos and those that use them too frequently. They are similar to Iron Warriors or Night Lords who look down on the corrupted as weak and foolish, everything is about their own misery and anger- they need to help from Neverborn deceivers. Which does mean as the Crusade goes along I'm going to walk a tight-line of not using some of the more powerful CSM Crusade options such as daemon weapons, ascending to Daemonhood, or even Chaos boons. Or perhaps the Forgotten will have to comprimise their honor to gain and advantage in the battles to come... Nachmund rules are really interesting as well. Phase 2 is when we will start using the Tactical Reserve rules (Phase 1 was to ease in new players to the general game/Crusade specific stuff like upgrading), so I'm pretty interested to try out the Reinforcing Wave reserve stuff and Precision Deep Strikes. I think my army style will play right into it, as I'm going heavy on termies, bikes, transports, and advancing Chosen packs, which will allow me a fast base list and reinforcements designed to keep hammering the enemy.3 points -
Some notes on the story of Prawa V
Rusted Boltgun and one other reacted to GSCUprising for a blog entry
Thank you. I appreciate that. I love the setting, I really do. But, I've always seen the lore as a guide. Given the vast expanse of worlds the Imperium covers, it cannot be held monolith. Take the variety of Imperial Guard regiments, for example, or the vast difference in dogma and paths Inquisitors take. I enjoy writing about characters and the setting gives so, so many options for it. Regarding language, anyone who's followed the setting for some time will have seen their fair share of Pig Latin. Thought I'd tap into my roots and do something a little different. I do plan on making some character conversions for my main characters; the narrator, Jagiełło, Mona, Laska, and The Fennec. I am looking forward to it!2 points -

You also seem to be missing Rogue Trader, which is lot of fun - its a tactical RPG type game, though not strictly "table top" 40K. Another is Battle Sector, which is kind of your traditional 3/4 top down turn based tactical 40K game, updated to the current 40K with things like primaris, etc. To be fair, it could be on your list, but just cut off at the top. There is also Sanctus Reach, which is similar to Battlesector but a bit older of a game and centres around space wolves instead of blood angels. As well, I seem to recall it being pre-primaris in regard to unit types, but that might not be correct. Another of this genre, which I haven't played and looks to have more retro graphics, is Armageddon. And, obviously, there is now a Space Marine II, which I haven't played. Another game I haven't played is Space Hulk Tactics, or Space Hulk: Deathwing - and Chaos Gate Demonhunters. And yet another I haven't played is Necromunda: Underhive, though it, like Rogue Trader, aren't strictly 40K as in the tabletop, though. Another in the wider 40K setting is Battlefleet Gothic 2 (and 1), though I haven't played those either. I have, however, played Necromunda: Hired Gun, though the machine can't really handle the graphics. In short, there are a lot of 40K related video games, even just on steam. I may be able to dig up a few more if I look at my own steam list...2 points -

The Iron Duke
W.A.Rorie reacted to GSCUprising for a blog entry
Thank you. I really appreciate the feedback. I am trying to explain things by showing and not telling. I want the Iron Duke to by more of a symbol. 329 is to be terrifying, and not just for its opponents. Brutus is not an Infernus, a standard Malcador, but that might be my fault for using the wrong pic! I think I enjoy writing Kasnyk the most. I really enjoy the whole noir gumshoe detective vibe he has.1 point -

Pacing is good. I really enjoyed how this chapter is switching between the 2 perspectives/ locations The characters seem to be a revealing themselves as the story progresses. The idea we know what type of characters they are helps the reader know how they appear but not how they think or act. Once again a good divergent from the source material. I am looking forward to hear the deeds of 3 heroes of the story: The Iron Duke, 329, and the Malcador Infernus. My suggestion is keep the story coming and go from there.1 point -

Cheers @W.A.Rorie! You seem to be the only person interested in this yarn, but if I am entertaining just you, I am happy for that. As this is all first draft stuff, any suggestions for improvement? How's the pacing, etc.? Thoughts on characters, so far?1 point -

I've just browsed through your briefings and haven't had the time to give them my due attention but I'm absolutely envious: what you have here is an absolutely amazing way of engaging the hobby. A glimpse into the future
W.A.Rorie reacted to GSCUprising for a blog entry
Thank you, @W.A.Rorie, I really appreciate it. This is a first draft and I have already noted some chronological inconsistencies I'll address in a second and third pass. I was inspired when I picked up the brush to work on my vehicles. I like the whole GSC thing, but have a real passion for the Brood Brothers aspect, which I am sure is evident. As mentioned previously, I've played down some elements of the Cult aspect, e.g.: the Genestealer's Kiss, but, hopefully, I am building a good narrative. Your feedback is most welcome and I'll pay close attention to any other comments you might have. Thank you. And, sure, I do enjoy your blog, also. You keep it nicely themed with imagery and use of Latin. Keep it up and if you take to fiction, I'd love the opportunity to read it.1 point -

40k Armageddon is really good, and I'd highly recommend that if you are into 2D turn based strategy games. It blends simple to learn and very complex to master quite well and tells a great story over an interesting and engaging campaign. The unit selection in the later levels is absurdly massive as well. On the Fantasy side Warhammer Quest was pretty enjoyable if you're into the old dungeon crawlers that play like the old Hero Quest board game.1 point -

Some nice picks there. I am a fan of the Arbites models and have two squads to be painted up for my small IA army. The paints look interesting and if Blanche's name is associated with them, I'll definitely be looking those up; thanks for making me aware of them. In the meantime, I really must sort out some sort of racking for my Citadel ones! Keep it up.1 point -
