  4. LOOK AT THIS!!!! Saw in this thread over on reddit, Looks like two face options, one with a veil and one without, a little bit of a shame the head isn't the usual socket thing but I can live with it. I was really expecting a plastic Urien Rakarth to be the next character for Drukhari but this is great, both would be really nice of course. It's always possible the Drukhari release will just be this model and the codex but having seen this has made me more hopeful and excited even thought we are still some ways off given the Roadmap.

  5. Thank you all for asking. I'll keep this as short & (bitter)sweet as I can. As always, non-political. Summary - yeah...I agree it'll be 10% tax just passed on to Hobbyists in the US, but it'll also be all the knock-on effects. +++ Why 10% tariff across the world? +++ Why even target UK exports like Warhammer? What has Warhammer ever done except bring both joy (& misery every price hike)? It's because if one country was to raise tariffs at another country...you can always circumvent by going thru a 3rd. For example, as you know I'm like a dodgy Hong Kong hustler. Former British colony. If it was only China getting hit by a tariff, I'd help a Chinese company set up some sort of dummy trading company in a Commonwealth nation to appear British, go around those rules, and I'd have a small take. Happens all the time. This would make such a loophole even costlier, like it wouldn't even be worth me doing it anymore (if I had wanted to, I admit nothing). So it's NOT targeted at Warhammer, nor even the UK. It's just this general baseline thing to make a tariff policy work. In Warhammer terms, it's if we had to use a Force Organisation Chart, there'd be, some HQ + Troops Tax, otherwise there's no point. So even if we get the US and UK governments negotiating...this 10% that affects them will stay, because it's NOT about the UK at all. What it's going to mean in practice is that it'll be very, extra hard to get this particular price hike lifted. There MIGHT be one solution... +++ There ARE "carve-outs" for select things +++ In situations like this, there ARE exemptions on a case-by-case basis...and you want to get your name on that list. It's going to take someone close to the policy makers with, how do I put this, a DOG in the fight who just so happens to really like games and tabletop and stuff to say, "Um, I actually play this game from a British company called WARHAMMER and so do my 14 kids, so could you please do a carve out for Games Workshop?" Alternatively, it'll be a very influential American company who sits squarely behind policy makers with, y'know, AMAZONIAN strength to lobby against the policy like, "You keep the tariffs...unless the sales go through US. We get an exception, because we'll help you enforce the policy via other means we have at our disposal." (You will see stuff like a Taiwanese chipmaker getting an exemption for their chips IF it's inside a US-made PC, etc.) +++ How will GW react? +++ It's not so much how it will affect GW (unless you're one of our Frateri GW shareholders, you care and rightly so). It's more about how GW, being a publicly listed company responsible to shareholders, react? That affects us all. You know how I used to harp on about maybe GW's Factory 4 could be built in the US? It would actually only help with trying to get on that list of carve-outs exempt from tariffs. Because even in a scenario where GW did build a factory in the U.S., I had imagined GW'd only make the most common model kits there, like the starter sets. Everything else made in the UK would technically be subject to tariffs, UNLESS they use another loophole and did something like having the sprues produced in Nottingham, shipped over to the U.S., and packaged in the U.S., just put in the cardboard boxes there. This used to happen in Hong Kong, things were made in China, shipped to Hong Kong then we'd package them to ship out, now it's Made In Hong Kong. But my main argument was lower energy costs. (The automotive industry is like this. Components made worldwide, final assembly in the U.S., now Made in the U.S.A.) I'm really gaming out how GW is reacting. Here's what comes to mind. +++ Will GW delay or even rethink its pricing update? +++ I anticipated GW was going to do a pricing update like around May. This has to give them pause, at least. North America, which of course includes the U.S., has long been its fastest growing region, to the point that... North America, probably the U.S. in particular, is actually GW's single biggest market now. GW DOES care. (I'll look up how much North America makes up GW's overall business, like compared to its home in the UK, later.) On the other hand, this gives GW a built-in excuse. GW can blame their performance on tariffs in their biggest market. But they're having trouble keeping supply up demand anyway. [TEMPORARILY NOT AVAILABLE] is synonymous with almost every search I do on their website nowadays, like when I'm just brainstorming new projects. Again, it's the same 3 factories producing while GW's revenue is 5 times what it was 10 years ago. However, GW IS looking ahead, that's why they talk about Factory 4 (as well they should imho). GW might say, let's not burn this bridge before we even cross it. Maybe they'll hold off on a price hike until things shake out a bit, or do some weird thing where price increases for the rest of the world EXCEPT for the U.S. There are unsung heroes who will push back on GW with this. They'll be the central figures in this saga: the U.S.-based FLGSes. +++ How will U.S. FLGSes react? +++ Your Friendly Local Gaming Stores in the U.S. will be the ones central to this fight. We can game things out by how they react. (Reminder: GW uses their own jargon for FLGSes, they're their "Trade" channel.) I've been listening to FLGSes, whom I greatly respect. They're unhappy with their GW representatives NOT because the Hobby sucks, in fact the Hobby's selling well, TOO well, the FLGSes are mad at GW because they can't stock what they want, driving their customers to online retailers. You're going to have U.S. Hobbyists drive to Canada to buy minis, throw away the cardboard boxes so it's just the sprues so it's not like a whole product, bring them back home. They're going to organise which friend will be the one to drive north after every balance update for a new batch of orders. (I used to live in New Jersey. We'd drive to Toronto because a lot of our Hong Kong friends were there. Then in Wisconsin when I was in uni. We'd drive just north of the border to buy alcohol then bring it back. I now realise that my so-called "friends" took me because I was going to be the fall guy.) FLGSes will have to look for alternatives. Within the miniatures space, it'll be Atomic Mass Games, who make Marvel Crisis Protocol (my friend Timperial Guard used to play this before Legiones Imperialis brought him home) and now Star Wars Legions (I know there's a fiddly thing with that, I'm not getting into it). (Modiphius, which makes the Fallout miniatures games is also a U.K. company, actually i.e. same boat.) Beyond miniatures, in the U.S. tabletop space, there's also Dungeons & Dragons, which traditionally did around £100 million/year. To compare, GW was around that 10 years ago, now it's £500 million/year. It's still dwarfed by D&D's younger sibling, Magic the Gathering, which is £1 BILLION/year. FLGSes can flock to Wizards of the Coast, owners of both D&D and MtG. I know what's happening with D&D, I won't talk about it here. I'll put it back into Warhammer terms. You know how we react to a balance update? Like GW will always increase the unit I really like, like my C'tans. And even though Necrons have been top tier throughout 10th ed, I completely overreact, like a small points increase to C'tan makes me give up and burn my army. This sort of thing happens irl. In supply chains, it's called a Bullwhip Effect, a tiny flick leads to a huge slash down the line. +++ Conclusions +++ GW is going to take a time-out to a.) re-evaluate things, b.) SHOW they're re-evaluating things and c.) talk to people like FLGSes. It'll be "in light of recent events" and/or "due to circumstances out of our control" by their next annual report, year ends in May, report in July. (They may or may not issue a statement to investors beforehand. They probably won't, the CEO isn't one of those headline seekers.) They're going to say they're either delaying their "pricing update" or do some weird carve out for the U.S. Don't turn your envy against our U.S. Frateri, they'll be hit with 10%, while we are usually hit like around 5%, they'll still be worse off, and they might be helping us all hold off on a pricing update altogether. They've already committed to Factory 4. They might say they're evaluating Factory 5, 6 or 7 in the U.S., something like that. There has been a case for that in lieu of energy prices in the UK, particularly in the case of Nottingham, which I found out recently. So it's not just some political lobbying thing tbh. They'll have to have some sort of special thing dealing with FLGSes (a.k.a. "Trade"), as well they should. In conclusion, having played this out as a result of writing this post, there will be a calm before the storm. +++ Now, a practical, personal note +++ Remember, the Hobby is only part of your life. The most important part, sure! But everything else, things you take for granted, things you never really think of, will go up way more than Warhammer. As a barometer, just keep an eye out for even gas prices, which should NOT be affected much, but will be. Canary in the coal mine. I did not work in Equities (I was Mergers & Acquisitions, yes, I know I'm a total bastard), so even now I was trained never to comment on buying or selling stocks. If you hold GW stock, remember you're STILL getting good dividends. But if you ever thought of being a GW part-owner, a GW shareholder, wait and see. I hold no GW stock, have no financial relationship with GW aside from being a Warhammer player. But things drop, then drop again, then rebound. Edit - I just thought of something, it's a zero-cost thing you can do: U.S. Frateri, maybe ask your American FLGS, "How can we support you?" You probably have to do NOTHING extra. You're just asking, not committing to anything, if they give reply. They'll just think, "Huh, Warhammer CUSTOMERS have always supported us." They might ask their GW reps, how are they supporting their customers in this time. My closest Warhammer/D&D friends and I kept a bar open by just going there once a week during the pandemic era. It wasn't simply that we drank like a fish (even though we did). It's that by being regulars at that time, we gave the bar's manager an excuse to tell his boss to keep it open. For a FLGS owner, it's not just a tax or more expensive minis, it's their business, it's livelihood. Just 1 question, "Are you okay?"

  12. Even as a marine player, a codex 2.0 before some people get 1.0 is in poor taste I think. With that out of the way, is this going to be a release of major kit updates, because I can't see 4-5 characters being enough to justify a new book.

  18. I have to vent, but just a bit. Hobby life is very frustrating of late since I have limited time for things 40K-related. With the limited time (hour- and minute-wise), I feel that painting this model takes way too much time. Having said that, I finished another important stage; I declare that I painted the 'main part of the fuselage' (whatever that is). I just need to glue the canopy on and everything that isn't white is deemed as painted (minus weathering/battle damage that I intend to add after painting and assembling the whole thing). Here's a close-up of the ornamental stripe that I couldn't help myself adding: And the rear:

  24. You have a reliable rumour source in valrak and a fair few other cources corroborating that something is coming this summer. There are no hard facts until GW themselves reveal it. So you either engage with the rumours and have some idea of what could be coming, or you totally distance them and exist not thinking anything at all is coming as there's nothing official. Being frustrated at either isn't going to help.

  27. Not a fan of this funnily enough. The doors being locked open is strange, they’re gonna be a pain in the ass to transport around. I had 14 of them back in 7th when playing Ragnar Blackmane’s great company, when all squads could take a pod for free. It would’ve been even more of a pain to transport them then if I couldn’t close the doors to pack them away. I never had an issue with the kits. They all went together really well and the doors all clicked closed nicely. I’ve never understood what people are moaning about with the old kits. I really don’t see the point in this update, but never mind. It just feels like a terrain piece now, especially with no weapons on them.

  30. Everyone knows you shoot/fight/lead better with one foot placed on a sturdy tactical rock, so as a bit of fun, let's find the very first model with this oh-so-necessary accessory. Fairly sure there are earlier examples than my entry below – but can you post the earliest? A few ground rules: You must post a picture of the model. Pictures of conversions are allowed, as long as you've got some proof it was done prior to 1993. One of the model's feet must be flat on the base, the other resting on a rock or other natural material. Unlike most 40k, no skulls allowed here! :D I'll lead (ho ho) with this classic, Space Wolf Long Fang 3, released in God's own casing medium in the dimly-remembered past of January M2.993.

The sculpts are fantastic, but the detail is lost, or slightly off in so many places, due to the moulding process, it makes painting them a pain. 35. Thought I'd copy the images for the Servitors here, for reference, and add a few thoughts. I like both of these techpriests; though with some slight reservations. The Technoarcheologist is a lovely model, so while I would have liked to have seen a new model in this box, certainly don't object to its presence. I'm less immediately impressed with the Servitor Underseer. It appears nice enough from this angle, but after seeing it described as 'spare bits from other, better Mechanicus models', I can't help but see it as a bit... unrefined? I'll reserve judgement until I have the Underseer in hand – I suspect it may be one of those models that looks better in-person. There are some nice bits – the face is very cool, and I suspect as I've got one of the Technoarcheologists, perhaps I'll use the head from the Underseer on the other techpriest. I like these models. If you'd told me that a Servitor Kill Team was coming out, these are exactly what I would have expected given the two recent plastic models, X-101 from Combat Patrol and the one from the Inquisitorial Kill Team (pictured below). I prefer the robotic feet of these new ones to the Inquisitorial version, and like the slightly chunkier overall feel – they're more like X-101. who is a cool model. The poses are predictably solid, and assuming the heads are on a ball joint, could be canted slightly to give a more vacant expression – which is what I suspect I'll do, to give a more mindless feel. I am expecting a couple of other weapon options, and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see some alternative heads and possibly arms. The specialists are cool; I think it likely that these will be able to be built as standard servitors, too – and perhaps that's why these are more divisive. I do see where the criticism of them looking a bit too collected/capable/conscious is coming from... The Auto-proxy in particular does look as 'present' as a Skitarii models, but I think that's got to be a matter of balancing making a striking model with reflecting the background. The background on Servitors has always been a bit vague – they're usually depicted as completely mindless, but then that's rather incompatible with what they're capable of; particularly those serving in combat. The Servitors term seems to cover everything from the utterly mind-wiped to those that retain some mental capacity (albeit firmly shepherded), so I don't object to some of these specialists looking more conscious – particularly in the presence of a Techpriest giving direction in a Combat Situation. So while I like the old drooling gun Servitor (pictured below, right), I'm not sure a whole Killteam of them would have looked good – and if the team had been more mixed, with minor Techpriests in these specialist positions, it dilutes the box's secondary purpose as a Servitor box. In the particular case of the auto-proxy, which I'm assuming is a node for Techpriest communication, a more conscious look seems fitting. Given the commercial balance coming down as it has, I can see why they've leaned more to the other historical expression (of grim determination, shown on the Servitor above left) though I think it's a shame that all seem to have half- or full-masks and be scowling. I hope – though with little expectation – that there are some alternative heads with a slack-jawed, vacant expression so we can dot a couple in alongside the more aggressive versions. A bit of an unfortunate angle on the picture here, I think, given that it seems the weapons are the main distinguishing feature of these. Again, nice and solid, if predictable. All the bodies in the preview all have unique detailing, which suggests a single larger sprue rather than duplicates of a smaller one. That in turn suggests just eight servitors are included on a sprue alongside the Underseer; rather than the Underseer being on a separate small sprue, perhaps alongside the Kill Team upgrades. Overall, I think these could have been pushed a little further, but I'm certainly not unhappy with the release. Since I have little interest in the Tyranid side of the box, I'll likely look to pick these up in a box split.

As a fan of marines im genuinely very happy for the Space Wolves players, those kits look amazing, im loving the mixing and matching or Armour mks, and the chapter customisation is fantastic, Its exactly the direction that I'd love to the the Marine range move in. As a Blood Angels fan specifically however All I'm feeling right now is overwhelming envy and the beginnings of the Black Rage setting in. Why the :cuss: couldnt we have gotten kits like this for our Death Company and Intercessors? Why do the Head Takers look so much better than our new Sang Guard? Even more than the comparison to the Black Templars this release is showing just how half-:cuss:'d the BA one was.

  40. While I always enjoy seeing new models, I'm also happy to see a much-needed FAQ. I'm particularly pleased to see some of the rougher edges smoothed off through the FAQ clarifications; and the fixing of obvious oversights like the Thanatar no longer fitting in transports, and the Cyclops now able to affect buildings. I'm also happy to see infantry knocked down a peg by the changes to the March order. While it doesn't walk back all the problems with the game, it's a definite step in the right direction, and I hope that it'll improve the gaming experience for all concerned. ... and for what it's worth, can I just point out that it's Heresy Thursday, not Age of Darkness Thursday? The format is just a fun little way for GW to promote all of the games under that setting umbrella – which includes Age of Darkness, but also Legions Imperialis and Adeptus Titanicus (and potentially even poor old Aeronautica Imperialis). Getting grumpy about it not covering your particular game system seems a bit of a case of sour grapes. The amount of vitriol thrown at the Warhammer Community team on social media about this is crazy!

  44. So it's been quite a while since I dusted off my sculpting tools but to be honest I have not really been feeling it of late with the hobby and have been concentrating on making my own game that I want to release sometime in the future but I kind of got the itch again recently to have a bash at some models. I also got a small light box which means after about 25 years of bad images I can finally take some passable pictures. I will definitely be getting back to the guys I have started here but my eyesight is not as good as it once was and I have not sculpted anything beyond digital in what seems like an age so I am going to ease back into things slowly. I have two goals in mind, firstly I really want a 4th Edition army. I really am not enjoying modern 40k and it seriously has killed my enthusiasm over the last year or so. I think the problem is that I have been looking at the hobby through the wrong lens, in that once a new edition comes along all the previous editions become obsolete. The truth is they aren't really I've just been conditioned to think that way. So I want two small forces, firstly I want to get back to an edition I really enjoyed for it's creativity and pretty sound rules set which for me is 4th edition. My plan is a Witch Hunters force with Space Marine allies set in sand box of Pre-Fall of Cadia era. Captain Valerian Lycoris First up is what will be the allied Astartes commander to the Inquisition force. I started this guy ages ago and he's made from the top half of a Mk3 marine and the legs from a Mk6. Ideally he will lead two tactical squads with a Castaferrum Dreadnought, the former of which will be make up of MK6 marines. Ideally I would like a force of Sisters of Battle and Inquisitorial Stormtroopers (maybe some guard?) to create a real crusade army feel. I still need to attach the left arm and sword which are tacked in place and then clean up the GS. I'm making use of a lot of Heresy upgrade kits. Praetor Kanis Demilius This next guy is a Prator of a yet un-named Legion from the time of the Great Crusade, this is a time period that greatly interests me and I want to explore a little bit more of that era of history. I'm currently looking to go mid to early period thus limiting myself a bit with what I can actually take, maybe even pre-discovery of Russ so maybe the first twenty years of the crusade and trying to stick to a more regimented organisation. I have a legion in mind but want to play around with a few ideas before committing, I do want to represent an early expeditionary fleet rather than a pure Legion force though.

  46. I can only speak for myself but I am over the moon about these reveals! To me, they are perfect and everything I was hoping the SW refresh would be. They are far above what I was expecting based on the BA release. The basic infantry are clearly space wolves and have plenty of distinctive decoration without going overboard or just slapping fur on everything. There are a good mix of helmeted and bare heads and a few nice pieces of older armour mixed in there. The new units like Headtakers and WGBL are fantastic. If this was all we were getting, I would be very happy but the knowledge we still have a Terminator wave to come is brilliant. Although I have to say, I think I know where GW got the inspiration for the Headtakers from. But I am not sore, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

  47. The Vikings are back. The furries are dead. Praise the Emperor. That Wolf Priest with the skull helm is how you do wolfy if you must do wolfy. SW’s have been far and away my least favorite marines for literal decades. I actually want to paint these. I will have that Wolf Priest if nothing else. I probably won’t ever have an army of SWs but coming from a Dark Angel homer like me, that’s high praise.
