So Santa was kind to me and brought me a Dark Imperium box for the Holidays. It's been...ages...since I've played 40k, but with the new edition / codexes / fluff / models I'm jumping back into the hobby with a new army and a new painting queue I'm wanting to jump into Raven Guard, but I'm wondering how I should expand beyond the small fleet of Primaris I get in the DI box. While I have the Space Marine Codex, I'm wondering what people have been finding that either works or doesn't work in this edition. I'm never going to be a hardcore tournament player, but while I do lean toward the fluff / painting side of the hobby, I want to make an army that is at least challenging in friendly or pick up games, while at least *feeling* like a Raven Guard army, if that makes sense. I feel like the next natural things to pick up would be: Reivers Jump pack squad, either assault or Vanguard Vets Scouts Some sort of flyer Beyond that I really don't have any idea, and am hoping to leech some advise off those of you who are way better players than I! **Edit for a general question: I really like the Dark Fury Horus Heresy models, are they alright as a Vanguard Vet squad in 40K?

Hello everyone. I "played" 40k back when I was a little boy. Well, I didn't really play it. I just bought the figures, glued them together and sometimes painted them badly. Living in a small village in germany meant that I never had the chance to play the game und so I stopped. But now. Around 10 years later: I got a job, moved to the big city and found a games workshop store. Now I took my old miniatures and started painting again! Thsese are my first painted miniatures after 10 years and I'm having lots of fun :D So I always loved the Iron Warriors but the metallic was not really what I was looking for so I decided to go for my own legion. They are called the Junk Dwellers, a splinter group of the Iron Warriors. Originally they were more or less a small group of marines that scavanged the battlefields after the Iron Warriors had a confrontation so the old tanks and power armors of fallen Warriors could be used anew. But after years of scavanging and building a respectable armory they decided to fight their own battles. They painted their silver metal armor grey and called themself the Junk Dwellers. These are the first 6 guys I painted and slightly modified. Carved off the horns; extended one of the barrels and gave one of them a pipe on his head. My goal is to create a chaos army that has kind of an ork / Iron Warriors feeling. After I finished this 15 man squad I still have an unpained Predator and a few bikers laying around. I think I'll buy a few plastic cards and maybe even ork bits and stuff to let the tank look like it was fixed with junk from an old battlefield. I'm excited to get back into the hobby and finally play with my own army in the near future :D

Hail Brothers of Fenris! I'm entirely new to the idea of list building, but have been a long time lore enthusiast, and shorter term painter all things considered. I've been shifting back and forth between what I've wanted to paint my primaris force as for a long time now. I've painted and tested many models, most recent of which were some lovely Doom Eagles, but with all the fuss regarding the new Psychic Awakening I've been reminded of the reason I got into 40k in the first place: the Space Wolves. The first 40k book I read was Spacewolf by William King, and instantly fell in love with the setting (and Ragnar, in no small manner). So, with that boring lore out of the way, I would like to ask you Wolves of Fenris how you would recommend I build my army going forward. I'm a huge fan of the primaris range, and have a lot of the models unbuilt and unpainted, so I would like to primarily keep it within the range, but anything other than the original marines would be fine by me (Wolfen, Older Dreads because Bjorn is the best, thunderwolf cavalry in a small dose). I also don't want the spotlight here, and would love to hear how the rest of you have built your armies, and the stories you've forged over the years! Model List: 2x Gravis Captains 1x Primaris Captain 2x Primaris Lieutenants (One is Haldor) 1x Primaris Librarian 1x Primaris Ancient 30x Intercessers 3x Aggressors 5x Hellblasters 3x Inceptors 1x Scout Squad 1x Redemptor Dreadnought 1x Repulsor
