Good morning gamers! So as it states I'm looking to help my mom get back into the game from when she collected some sororitas in 3rd, but I am wholly ignorant of what the state of the sisters are in 9th edition. Ive got the codex on the way and some proxies printed so she can get her color scheme down. I should be getting the codex here today or tomorrow, anything I should read over especially carefully? Any stuff you've come across that was hard for you to understand starting out? But now we've come to the real meat, what should she have in her army? I'm guessing a good place to start is the start collecting, but I dont see one. So is it down to individual squads? Honestly that might be helpful to keep her from being overwhelmed. I think shes going to start with the rule of cool and get some kind of centerpiece to get her motivated before starting on troops. Shell be mostly focused on what looks cool to paint and use rather than winning, but its not fun to just get dunked on every game so I would like to point her in a semi competitive direction. Last I played it was rhino rushing sisters and immoliators in to bolter/flamer purge whatever was stupid enough to be close then move on; is this still viable? I'm guessing more meltas than before, but the sisters still bring the heat right? Or go in a completely different direction?

Hee Ho, another review thread. I listened to the audiobook for this one, and I have to say in advance that Emma Gregory's performance was so impassioned that I'm not sure how much of my enjoyment was of the writing itself and how much was her delivery, even moreso than usual for audiobooks. I will say however she should be banned from ever singing again. There are many things that surprised me about this book. The audio is about 6 hours so it's bizarrely short for a GW-only hardcover, as it implies it'll get a paperback at some point. I expected Ware's first full-length narrative here and it's not really that, it's more of a framing device surrounding several short stories. I was also worried based on her interview regarding the book that it would be unironically triumphant, but no, the characters here are as psychotic as their big moments are heartfelt. So the whole book's a soup of things I didn't expect to work but totally do. I'd say if you've been waiting for a book that really codifies who the Sororitas are as a faction, this is it. Their mission statement, their obsession with martyring themselves, and the many different applications of holiness within their orders are very well defined. The short story (the cast gather and each tell an instructive tale) format works far better here than in any of Ware's actual short stories, as each can be diverse and impactful without worrying about establishing new characters or meeting an action quota. And my, some of them really hit you, I like how unafraid this book is to be passionate about devotion to the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. The only thing that didn't wow me as much was the final chapter, the book's climax. So many of the tales told were quite unique, and for it all to culminate in "the Sisters go kill a thing" didn't exactly knock my socks off. It does have decent payoff for the protagonist, but it's the only part of the book that feels like it fell back on tired formula. All in all, very enjoyable. To Taste simply because the novel-framing-short-stories format won't work for everyone, and it may not hit as well without Gregory's performance - but even if that's the case I think this is Ware's best work so far.

Now that this is in paperback, anyone had a chance to read it? I just finished up the first novella, by Worley. I’m pretty conflicted on this one, the prose is beautiful and it’s speckled with great moments for the characters and faction. But Worley really effectively provides setup for a mystery story before transitioning into full action after just 2 chapters, to the point it almost feels like a bait-and-switch. Those seemingly effective first 2 chapters don’t do the necessary legwork for an action story, and I was annoyed when the fighting just kept going. All the character moments are really on point but none of them go anywhere; setup and payoff is almost completely missing throughout. I give it a meh so far but I’ll reserve full judgment til I read the rest.

With the release of the plastic Sisters I felt the urge to start yet another project, and so bought a box of them along with some other bits and pieces. However, the lack of a modelling space left me with loads of ideas I had no means of actually putting into action. Fast forward a bit and I have my desk and work area assembled, and have since been butterflying from project to project, never getting anything finished as is the norm. Anyway, I finally got round to doing some actual work on the Sororitas, and thought I'd start a log on them in a vain attempt to motivate me to get work done on them. I seem to recall I tried doing that before...twice...but umm, third time's the charm? So first a bit of fluff for them: Anyway, models! I should mention that as this is intended as a warband for things such as Inquisitor, most of these girls are not equipped for Codex-use, and in some cases aren't even based on Codex units at all! For the most part this is an exercise in creating cool models, and the chances of this evolving into a full 40K army are incredibly slim. First up is the de facto leader of the Unbroken, Sister Superior Gaelle Valentina. An exemplar of the Order's virtues of stoicism, charity and utter fearlessness, Gaelle is kind and caring to a fault, always placing the wellbeing of her Sisters first and devoted to them completely. This is not to say she is some kind of pushover or softie however; she is incredibly resilient and will strike down with great vengeance those who would threaten her Sisters. She's armed with a power fist (actually made from a cleaned up OOP Chaos Space Marine part!) and bolt pistol. Next is Sister Sola, bearer of the Lantern of Hope. This sacred beacon is an immensely potent relic of the faith, filling the hearts of the Unbroken with passion and courage, whilst striking fear into evildoers. Indeed, Sola herself is ceaselessly positive and is a lynchpin of the team, providing levity and cheer where otherwise there might only be darkness and despair. The Lantern's blessed flame is also utterly anathema to the servants of the Ruinous Powers, and a well placed burning bonk is very effective for banishing the daemonic. Her Lantern is made from a Nighthaunt Guardian of Souls (the one available in Soul Wars, or in my case the Hachette's Partworks magazine) with a skull added to lengthen it a bit for clearence's sake. Then there is Ancient Sister Matilda Berthier, entombed in the holy chassis of an astonishingly rare Mk. IV "Castra-Ferrum Ignea" pattern Dreadnought. As much valued as a mentor as a warrior, when not on operation with the Unbroken she guards the Heroine's Rest, the crypt for the honoured fallen of the Order. Unfortunately due to her sheer age and the questionable nature of the Ignea's neural interface (one of the main reasons the pattern was discontinued after a short production run), her mind is not what it used to be... (which incidentally you could represent in INQ28 by giving her a "poor quality cybernetic head", at least assuming you can find rules to run Dreadnoughts!). Made from a Mk. IV Forge World Dreadnought with Inferno Cannon and CCW, with a few very minor additions in the form of a Celestian helmet in place of the regular head, and a padlock and skeleton key from the Hachette's Spirit Torment. Probably not going to add any further embellishments to her as I don't like overly busy Dreadnought conversions, and also I am utterly enamoured with the slab-sided beauty of the Mk. IV. Finally (for now) we have the Penitent Engine known only as "The Griever". One of only three survivors of the Order of the Gleaming Spear, she was so utterly overcome with survivor's guilt, grief and holy rage that she demanded that she be crucified on this war machine, itself a particularly old example of the type, to better bring death to the foes of Man and avenge her fallen Order. Due to the unusual nature of her request, and the fact that as she had technically committed no wrongdoing she would not qualify for becoming a Mortifier or Anchorite, she is one of the only Sororitas affixed to a Penitent Engine, though the actual device has been somewhat modified. Notably it possesses a conversion field to protect her, and a lot of the guillt and pain infliction devices have been removed as the Sisters Technicia felt it would be utterly unnecessary given the circumstances. Unlike more or less every other Penitent Engine or Mortifier, she is viewed with awe and respect, if a little pity, by her comrades due to the entirely voluntary nature of her crucifiction. To the others, she is pure in the eyes of the Emperor, and is a living icon of piety and zeal. She also exists solely because I found a decently priced metal Penitent Engine on eBay and couldn't resist. I have since primed the Engine itself, and so this photo is out of date, though she remains in those sub assemblies for ease of painting. As a side note I somehow assembled her without a single pin and I have no idea how- she's held together entirely by superglue and faith in the Emperor. More to come...

Hi, I'm thinking about starting a sisters army, so thought i'd look at a few lists. I initially made up a 2k list but, when I looked into buying the models, we we're talking about £600+ even with discounts. With that in mind, I made a 1k point list, which should be much more attainable. I'll list this below, but really I just wanted to get some feedback on if the units i'm buying are a good idea, if there is anything I'm missing out that is a must include or should be prioritising as my next buy. All advice is welcome, as I said, i've not started buying yet so any feedback will be a big help. HQ Canoness - Warlord - Relic: Blade of Admonition, Trait: Beacon of Faith, Condemnor Boltgun Celestine (no force org slot - Geminae Superior) Troops Sisters x10 includes Simulacrum, Meltagun and Multi-melta, chainsword on Sister Superior Sisters x5 includes Heavy Bolter, Storm Bolter, chainsword on Sister Superior Sisters x5 includes Heavy Flamer, Flamer, chainsword & Hand Flamer on Sister Superior Elites Death Cult Assassins x2 Heavy Support Exorcist - Hunter-killer missile Penitent Engines x2 - Buzz-blades and Heavy Flamers Dedicated Transports Immolator - Hunter-killer missile Rhino - Hunter-killer missile So this is 1k on the nose, obviously if and when I add to it the list will change. I'm not aiming to be majorly competitive, I'm just aiming for a decent army that can win casual games. Thanks in advance
