  1. So I'm getting back into the game, last played 4th edition, and couldn't look at my crappy paint job that wasn't even half finished. So I gave everything a new coat of primer and started afresh. The basic game plan is to have a deep blue be the base color of the armor and a medium grey for the fabrics and accents whatever. Then a deep purple for the veterans and commanders to mark them out as nobility. The tanks I think are going to stay blue, but well see if they need to stand out more in the future. I'm debating whether to have the metals be mostly copper instead of steel since the copper color looks great with the blue, but then it kinda looks a little too much like wanna-be Night Lords. Well see, it probably wont matter much but for the tanks since the infantry don't have much metal. My goal is before the end of the month to solidify the color scheme of the guardsmen and to finish the 4 tanks and the sentinel. Long term is to keep motivated. As it sits besides the tanks I've got 60 troopers, 20 veterans, 18 heavy weapon teams, and probably another dozen odd and end officers and such. So a lot to get through and this will be a good way to keep on top of it and to keep basic overhead of the Russ's. I'll get the detail shots as I start doing more than a base coat. Side of my tank commander. Front of the tank commander Sentinel Base coats of blue and metal So happy with day one progress. Got everything primed, all tanks, heavy weapons teams, and infantry. Easy part done. Mostly focused on getting all of the colors on my tank commander to make sure I liked how they all fit together. I'm pretty happy with it. The blue holds for me as a realistic color to be regal without being too showy as an unrealistic target. I don't think I'm going to add purple accents to the tanks, it'd wind up being too much color. Still going to pick the Vet Infantry and Officers in it to help stand em out for game play ease. Now old me would probably give it a once over again for accents like cables and call it, but I want to step it up. So plan for the tank commander is to go over him to cover up and errant brush strokes with the deep blue, then mixing in a small bit of white and doing a highlight on the hard edges of the front and turret of the tank. After that hit the sharp edges of the metal with a light titanium. Then pick out the cables and stuff in red and green to help em pop out a little. Tomorrow is game day so I doubt ill get anything painted since it'll all be on the board, but by the end of the week I want to get the rest of the tanks to at least where the commander is today. Then I'm starting to get past my experience. I want to use a wash after that to help pick out the deeper details again in the cracks of the plates, hinges, tracks, ect. I need some advice on that. I have some matte medium, flow aid, and splatter medium to be able to add and want some advice on ratios for an ink or wash. I'm getting comfortable using it to think out my paints to keep the detail, but have exactly zero experience with washes. I also am not sure if I should be using a deep brown or black to base it on. Black makes sense to me, and nuln oil from gw looks like it to me. But on some of the others I've seen chestnut brown, or like red-brown. whats he best way to tell which I should use? or maybe paint up an extra hull piece and see?
  2. Hi fellows brothers. First I would like to introduce my self before cutting to the cheese... As I stated before in the newbie thread (new members) I finally made up my mind and my pocket to join the fight. I've been interested in the game since I first saw it arriving to my local shop but ... no money, no joy. So here I am, with memories of the 2nd and 3rd Editions willing to be an active part of the best Chapter. I must say I'm not fan of the Fenrisian Wolves, Wolven and Cavalry, I'm more of a "traditional guy" kind. All this been said, I'm GrFlur "Stormming" TwoClouds. A lone wolf ready to join the battle I have lots and lots and ¡for Russ! lots of questions so if I may, I would like to use this topic to be my "Journal" if it's possible. So let it begins. - What happened to the Leman Russ Exterminator wich we could use long time ago and our chapter was so proud of? Can we use it in the 8th edition? (Index: Imperium1 doesn't list it for marines or us) - I've decided to start working in a full Long Fangs unit ( 5 long Fangs, Pack Leader and Wolf Pack Leader) with all 5 different heavy weapons so in the long run I'm going to need 5 units like this one if I want to run a 5 Fangs unit with the same weaponry. No points restrictions here, just possibilites ¿Thoughts? Thanks to all who spend some time here reading my words in my bad english. May the Allfather bless you with a Battle alongside Russ!
  3. Hello fellow Brothers, So first things first, I am completly new to this forum and the game, ergo I dont know any of the basic rules yet (watched some Battle Reports though). I started with a "Start Collecting" Edition from the Blood Angels, an Adeptus Astartes Codex from the 8th Editon and a Death Company Kit (plus Colours for the Blood Angels, a normal and a fine detail brush and some Citadel Pallets.) So this is where my struggle starts: After looking at some Death Korps of Krieg miniatures, I realy got into them until i saw their price on FW ( which is way to expensive for me), but they got me into the Cadian Troops and the Astra Militarium in General. So now to my questions. 1. What should I consider when starting my army? I wanted to start with the "Start collecting" Edition of the Astra Militarium and some artillery (if there is anything cheaper then a Basilisk). I dont want to spent 100€+ for an army, I just want a small force to get into the game and learn the rules. 2. I really like the Catachan Jungle Troops, could I use them in my Cadian army? 3. Yesterday I watched our Lord and Saviour of the thinned paints, Duncan, on Warhammer TV painting some Cadian Shock Troops. From what I saw it looked fairly easier then painting my Blood Angels, which came out pretty ok, but not nearly as good as shown on their packings (feels bad man). Are Cadian Troops easier to paint for a beginner like me? 4. I wanted to focus my army on artillery and entrenchment, is it possible in the Tabletop to play like that and build entrenchments for my troops? Because I really like the thought of the enemy charging into my lines after getting ripped apart by my artillery and my guardsmen wiping the rest of his army. Can you build/place fortifications like trenches and sandbags on the field? 5. Which basic paints do I need to make my army look decent? I dont want to spent over 35€+ for paint I am not really using (like I did with Blood Angels) beause my Highlighting looks awful. I just want a decent looking army, not something you could put into a museum ( If you know what I mean). 6. Any other tips for a newbie in the ranks of the Hammer of the Emperor? If this topic is placed in the wrong section, please excuse my heresy and feel free to move it into the right section. The Emperor protects! Marius Septimus
  4. Hey guys this is my first post so sorry if I get any of the formatting wrong but here is my 1000pt Raven Guard list with the four points left over which at the moment are going to either a power sword on the captain or storm bolters somewhere. As for set up Hellblasters and Aggressors will be striking from the shadows with the tactical squads, captain going with the five man squad, in razorbacks driving up or forming a firing line depending on how badly I need to kill tanks. I am quite happy with the list, no small part because it's exactly 1000pts, I feel it has a lot of anti-tank/infantry and puts a lot of threats on the board and although it lacks considerably at close combat the beta rules, which my group will probably play, will hopefully offset that somewhat. I am very new to this edition however, having never really played a game, so am curious what those with more experience think. Thank you in advance for any comments or criticisms you have. ++ Patrol Detachment (Imperium - Space Marines) [57 PL, 996pts] ++ + No Force Org Slot + **Chapter Selection**: Raven Guard + HQ + Captain [5 PL, 77pts]: Chainsword, Master-crafted boltgun, The Primarch's Wrath, Warlord + Troops + Tactical Squad [9 PL, 103pts] . 4x Space Marine . 5. Good morning gamers! So as it states I'm looking to help my mom get back into the game from when she collected some sororitas in 3rd, but I am wholly ignorant of what the state of the sisters are in 9th edition. Ive got the codex on the way and some proxies printed so she can get her color scheme down. I should be getting the codex here today or tomorrow, anything I should read over especially carefully? Any stuff you've come across that was hard for you to understand starting out? But now we've come to the real meat, what should she have in her army? I'm guessing a good place to start is the start collecting, but I dont see one. So is it down to individual squads? Honestly that might be helpful to keep her from being overwhelmed. I think shes going to start with the rule of cool and get some kind of centerpiece to get her motivated before starting on troops. Shell be mostly focused on what looks cool to paint and use rather than winning, but its not fun to just get dunked on every game so I would like to point her in a semi competitive direction. Last I played it was rhino rushing sisters and immoliators in to bolter/flamer purge whatever was stupid enough to be close then move on; is this still viable? I'm guessing more meltas than before, but the sisters still bring the heat right? Or go in a completely different direction?
  6. So I got a few days to assemble and prime my Scions. They were rather enjoyable to build and finally learning how to use my airbrush made priming 10 of them only take 8-10 mins. My first goal is 500 pts/50 PL, which you guys and gals helped me develop earlier. Thank you to those that helped out, still working out the rest of the details (warlord stuff I believe is left). 500 pts/50 PL list: Update to the squad. The original squad had to be scrapped and I started anew. This photo is just 1 of 5 others. The scheme is nearly complete just need highlights. Unfortunately I have doubts now as my wife said it didn't look very good.
