Desert Eagles wip

I totally get what you're saying, and as I mentioned its a very cool style my comments were only to be taken with a grain of salt ;)

Here are some shots from the same genre but with a little color added for squad identification, just as a conversation piece:

I'm showing this not to challenge what you've done AT ALL but just as a visual explaination of my earlier comment :verymad:

As a painter of white marines I'm really interested by that white recipe, it looks awesome! The whole style of these bikers is ace

Can I ask where the power-fist sergeant's head is from? He looks like Nick Nitro (far left)

@Toddius: Yeah, but in the case of the clonetroopers, i think the orange/red draws too much attention. Also, the coloured markings seem a bit too random, and i can't really focus on something as my eyes wanderers all over the figure, jumping from one coloured spot to another. It really is difficult to find the perfect balance between what is too much and what is too little. I guess at some points it is simply a matter of taste and personal prefferences. But it really is a good thing to sit back and reflect on the decisions that's been taken, so don't be afraid to lift these kind of toughts even if i don't fully agree as i don't feel uncomfortable or challanged by them in any way.

@Patrick: Thanks mate. I made a white tutorial thing on the previous page, hope that helps somewhat. The head is from an Ultramarin tyrannic war vet. But i must warn, half his face is a bit twisted as it was stuck against the neck guard. You'll have to either re-sculpt it somewhat or model/place it in a similar fashion as i have.

Cheers!

Have begun painting my terminators. I find them to be a bit quicker to paint compared to my bikers, so thats a good thing. However, i want the terminators to stand out from the bikers, as the suits are just as precious and rare in my chapter as they are with most astartes. So i'm thinking a slightly diffrent colourscheme with almost no orange and all details, like the eagles, skulls, laurels etc in gold. I also plan on painting a small "eagle soaring in the sky"-scene (simmilar to the ones on my banners) on every terminator in that small rectangular hatch on the top of the suits. Oh, and as i never got any fw-shoulderpads i'll just do a freehanded shield instead, like on the fenders of my bikes.

This last one is just a re-post from a few pages back, i didn't bother taking any new pics. I've gs the bases to match my bikes, but basicly they havn't changed much from this picture.

In one sense i guess this would be less monochromatic than my last bike, but then again, they will basicly only be white and gold instead. So, what do you guys think?

like the new scheme idea. but you may want to add one other colour. not including the gold for all the insignia ect and the parchment type colouring of the purity seals and of course the green of the lenses. thats just my idea to make them more special as they are Terminators so they should have a special colour scheme which differs somewhat from your regular troops. i think the freehand you will add will make them pop for sure.

peace

Thanks mate. For sure, there will be other colours aswell, like the purity seals that will remain red with bone parchment, i was reffering to the details currently painted white on my bikers. Also the guns will probobly remain dark green...or should they be painted gold aswell?

Cheers!

Been waiting for you to start these guys. :P Can't wait to see them painted. I still think you should do a shoulder pad in brown along with one knee pad and paint the DE icon on the pad and the company number on the knee. But I'll reserve my opinion after you paint it. ;)

I hope you're thinking of cool desert scenes for the bases... maybe some crags and a snake slithering out, maybe a bleached bone skeleton of a long dead other-worldy animal. Stuff like that. Maybe have some of the termies on raised sand rock out crops, ect ect.. That would be awesome because you're an expert now at expressing that environment.

Maybe have a termie positioned forward a bit and have some rocks and a dead tree branch you could have a desert eagle looking on into the distance... ^_^ :Elite:

Thanks MT, as always you bring some nice ideas. A snake or two will definitly be used...maybe not on these bases, as i've already primed them, but we'll see. Otherwise future bases will have that aswell as maybe some desert plants like cactuses or something like that. The eagle thing is a good one, but wont really fit my fluff (see below). Anyway, decided to get up from my lazy behind and snap off a few quick shots of the termies.

And there is also a 6th member that i've begun painting (altough very little have been done).

As for the eagles... i have some very early and mostly unwritten fluff in the works. But the actual eagles are almost, if not, extinct. And for a person to see one of them is considered a true blessing as favoured by the emperor, or as an omen of great deeds to come... or something like that. Their homeplanet was once a true utopia, terraformed with now lost STC-technology, and really one of mankinds greatest acomplishments. Legend has it that the emperor himself visited the planet in his early crusades and brought two eagles, and soon the sky was filled with them soaring high up in the clouds. Then, sometime along the hersey of warmaster Horus, the echology failed and the planet changed into this desert waste, and the skies went empty.

I havn't really made up how and why the astartes came to take this planet as their own, but sometime in the far future when i've worked up some more fluff, i'll post it in the liber section. Once that happen i'll probobly need lots of help as i haven't dvelved very deep into the 40k fluff as a whole.

Whoah! Thats what I'm talking about. Thats the desert eagle I know.

Very exciting work, man. Love how they're coming out. :D

I should read up on your fluff, sorry about. But ya, I think some skeletons here and there of long dead animals would be cool.

Also, even based on your fluff, a dried stream bed with a trickle of water running along wouldn't be a bad idea, maybe could add some small cool tones to the desert environment on maybe just one of the bases. Just some thoughts :)

Thanks MT, and i'll experiment some more trying out new stuff and implement some of those ideas with my bases in the future. I think you may have missunderstood my post (or quite possibly i wasn't clear enough) as i havn't posted any fluff before, so there really is nothing to be sorry about.

Been painting some more on the terminator. The body is almost done, just need to paint the metallics (mouthpiece etc.). Decided to skip the gold altogeteher. I tried it and it didn't come out as i had hoped, so i came to the conclusion to paint them up the same way as i've done with my other marines. I'm quite pleased with the result considering that i havn't spent all that many hours on this terminator. I'm actually a bit surprised how "fast" i'm getting this one done and i estimate the total time will be somewhat around 20 hours from build to final brushstrokes, and thats bordering on speedpainting for me. ;)

Anyway here is the progress so far:

C&C welcomed,

Cheers!

Hes looking really sweet. I had no idea you were going to paint those eagle images on thier backs. Thats going to be really cool and a nice addition of iconagraphy to the mix. The eyes and targeter/sensors look great with that scary green glow. The weathering over the white is superb. I'm really starting to dig your vision of a monotone scheme. :)

From seeing what you've done with those brass etched icons I bought some DA ones and will be incorporating them into my DW termies, and my Dark Angel Vets. I just have to wait now until FW gets off thier butts and make a new order of them to send out. I love how they look to be easily bent to the curvature of the model. And whats nice about them is that I don't have to mold a zillion of them, or deal with resin casting.

Keep it going, bro. De utseende stor! :P

@everybody: Thanks a lot guys, i apriciate it.

@Master Toddius: First of all, the swedish really made me smile (it's a bit off, but anyway). ;) The brass etch is great. As you guessed, they bend over curves quite easily and are easy to work with from that perspective... but It's a bit of a pain to glue them in place, very fiddly. And watch out not to use to much glue or you'll ruin the details. But i think that the brass etch is very usefull and i'm actually quite envious that you get a second sprue to use since only the eagles fit my theme. So buy one of the eagles aswell, very usefull imho.

Anyway, took a few more pics of the progress to show what it will look like with a bit more colour. Obviously it's a bit messy right now, only first few layers of paint on the arms and so forth.

You know, I think I might have been wrong on the brown shoulder pads. I think your original plan might be better. I'm so used to the monotone now I can't see the brown on the pads being in place anylonger. Maybe when you get the brown highlighted and weathered I'll change my mind back. Great... You've brought me over to the monotone side ;) :)
