pre-heresy truescale worldeaters

I only just now caught this thread with the fixed images. Very nicely done. To help you out a little: Doing hazard lines is so much easier if you get yourself some liquid eyeliner. If you keep your hand steady, you can do them perfectly almost every time on the first go

Great work synapse! You really have blood splatters down as a painting technique; I'm quite interested to know how you get them looking so dark, grimy and slick despite having to paint on a predominantly white surface.

Also, that dreadnought looks like it stepped out of the Horus Heresy: Collected Visions book and onto the tabletop. You have a really good eye for scratch builds!

In reference to my earlier comments, looking at the models from another angle seems to really reduce the round torso effect. Plus, I don't know whether it's the increased detail and blood splatter, but you can hardly notice it anymore, especially on your commander units and your standard bearer. So far as truescale goes, these are probably the best examples I've seen, especially considering that you've gone to the extra effort to make them pre-Heresy AND World Eaters. Your baneblade looks tame in comparison to the individual marines; when a marine can make the largest plastic tank available look impotent, you know you've done them justice.

the maine blood consists of 2 mixes - 1 dark and 1 light. the dark is applied first, and consists of 2:2:1:1:1 mix of black ink:brown ink:red ink:blood red:gloss varnish. this is used as dry patches of crusty blood and is applied in patches rather than splatters.

on top of this goes a mix of 1:1:2:2:3 mix of blackink:brown ink:red ink:blood red:gloss varnish. this is applied in streaks, stipples, DB and splatter (applied with a toothbroth by drawing my finger across it).

finally i add a layer of pure gloss to the parts i want to look particularly wet.

due to the large mixes the blood requires i tend to make a huge mix and apply it to 10+ models at a time.

thanks a lot, that really means a lot as i took a lot of time to try and get the look right - its great to know that its not lost on everyone!

its probably the white armour that makes them look more chunky as it catches more light. the red from the blood steals some of that (probably!), making them look better. id have to agree, now theyre painted the new sergeants (the guy with two axes and the one with the 'wallace chain-sword') look better though when stood next to the earlier models, they do look more barrel-chested. oh well. :)

i know! i have no idea what im going to do when i come round to making the truescale rhino, predator and land raider spartan

considering that pre heresy the imperial army also used these vehicles, it just makes no sense to me. the interior of the vehicle would need to be incredibly modified so that it can be used by 6' tall humans or near 8' giants in huge armour - it makes no sense to me! for instance, id like to have a predator for my imperial army guys, though would i have to truescale it as well? if i do make a vehicle ill probably try make the spartan first - basicallya truescale MK I dread with the rhino hull on the front... of course that necessitates me making terminators to transport... all in good time though!

I have to admit, when I first saw the Baneblade, I thought you were using it as a true-scale Predator XD

Why not put side-sponsoned Bolters on it, remove the demolisher cannon and you could pull it off as a Predator. Yet how you would do a Land Raider is a little hard to think of

i'd say its too big for a predator, would have said a predator was more land raider size myself and a landraider was like a baneblade (stormlord), plus £60 for a predator is well expensive considering your army is more time consuming than money consuming, loving the guard and the banner, i know you showed pics of WIP guard but could you do a tut? and possibly even templates for them? (the guns i mean)

templates? well the guns are just lasgins with the ammo cases cut off and the the tip of the barrel cut off to make it straight. about 3mm of the stock is cut off to shorten it. the ammo case is just a rectangle of plasticard shaved into a curved shape once glued to the lasgun

back after a loooong absence (been working on my orks and a bucketload of commissions...

well, ill be making some parts for casting (mainly the scratchbuilt torsos and jump packs, to save me some time) and ill be making at least a 1 5xman assault squad, 5x devastators and another 5 marines to make a full 2 10xman units.

also, im working on the LR spartan:

well, to those who dont know, the spartan is this:

http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq28/dichotomancer/spartan3-1.jpg

ill be keeping the main design aesthetics of it and updating it to the new style of marine vehicles, like this:

http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq28/dichotomancer/HPIM2268.jpg

http://i430.photobucket.com/albums/qq28/dichotomancer/HPIM2270.jpg

to be honest im still not 100% convinced about it, but i really need to block out the whole thing before i can say for sure, though i have a feeling it might be a bit big. oh well, its all a learning process - if it doesnt work out, ill make another and scrap this one :P

Man... I missed your stuff, Synapse. Glad to have ya back! I'm not sure I'm feeling the really old school Land Raider with this army, however... especially with the Fellblade. I think you'd be better off with a newer Land Raider, or even a Malcador as a proxy LR, as it has more the Mk V feel that the LR attempts.
