The best true scale conversion i have seen so far synapse mate. The Chaplain looks the shiz, i love the skulls in the legs and just the peice overall, looking forward to seeing more work.

The BA walking and drawing his sword is great, loving the idea and the pose is very real.

thanks a lot for the coments! people. i tend to loose interest in projects quickly, though all i need to do to get beck on the horse if i loose interest is see the encouraging comments and other great projects going on round here!

well ive just received my bitz orders for the dreadnought and scouts, and will be getting to work on them soon...ish. ive got a lot of overtime coming up at work, though i should be able to get some concept sketches done for it... ironically enough, at work!

i need to wait for it to dry fully before i can fill in the gaps, though im really pleased with the results. my cloak mojo is getting better!

all thats left now is that and the buttons on the tassles and the base... which has to wait until the PP bases arrive (hopefully soon)

thanks for all the kind comments people.

now, a little help people. here are the pics that, amongst 3 or 4 half-decent dread pics from the HH collected visions, im using as a basis for my pre heresy dread:

box art

dread detail

http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x15/voropohaiah/HPIM1109.jpg

sprue detail (note size of dread next to stompa!!!!!!!!!!!!! eek! - dont worry, mine wont be THAT big)

http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x15/voropohaiah/HPIM1107.jpg

anywho, i was wondering if anyone has any pics of the actual model so i can see a profile/top/back shot of it to see how the legs are positioned etc, since im loving the proportions on the model and the general values, which i want to try and stay as close to as i can.

any pics, advice, cries of :cuss? are more than welcome; nay, required! thanks

really love that terminator chappie! going to have to fail in my own attempt at that now!

anyhow.. the dread

most of the extra height looks like it'll be in the legs - the old style epic/heresy dreads have a more ''human' proportioned leg - you may be able to make it out of two sets of dread legs one set making the calfs and one set the thighs and use your awesome GSfu to make suitable plating/knees.

even if you're not scaling against the stompa i think you're going to end up with something pretty huge - mini titan size

what could be extremely WIP shots of the hips/thighs or maybe a prototype, depending on how good/bad the thing turns out

well heres a prototype for the scout legs. i wont be using this as its more of a test model tosee how best to make them etc. im kinda pleased with it considering its my first ever attempt, but im sure i can improve on it. this is actually the second version of the legs, which i had to do because the first version can out too thin. of cours, as is always the case, i done a better job on the first version than this bulked up one, but the scale is closer to what i want. and i think ill have to make scale a tad smaller on the proper ones, since these are the same size as my marines' legs, and i want the scouts to be a bit smaller.

EDIT: the boots, crotch and ass area arent done. the latter two mainly because theyll be covered by armour in the 'proper' model. the boots i didnt finish because i ws more concerned with excercising my skills with the texture. i used IG cadians and photoes of my mate in baggies as reference though strayed a bit from what seems to be the rules of baggie fold physics :tu:

It looks like a good "1st" attempt and I'm sure that once you have worked a bit of brush magic on the finished model it will be just fine - at the moment it reminds me a bit of the skin folds that people who lose loads of weight end up with ;)

The Dread is going to be really interesting too

well ive tried ironing out ;) some of the kinks. could be better. could be worse. i done more work on the boots and added the codpiece armour thingy.

creases are a lot better, though still a way off from desireable :P but im getting there!

Vaehirin - Im pretty sure he already works for them. Check the link in his signature

Synapse - I love the work you are doing. My only comment is that i personally dont like the scout legs. In my mind the material they would be wearing on thier legs would be some sort of high tech kevlar. protection and at the same time form fitting? The baggy folds at the bottom of the legs imply extra material, maybe poorly fitted to the person wearing it? While pants in our world are made in predetermined sizes, would a fledgling space marine get the best of the best of the best? Keep up the good work.

Cheers

Jeff

Edit

The boots also semi irk me. They look more like ski boots then stealthy infiltartion combat boots. maybe change to more of a combat boot then a marine heavy plate boot.

thanks for the link plug

well the boots are a direct copy of the plastic ones, though i probably agree with you abut the fatigues. not sure yet. i still need to work on the creases, though no wasy in the 9 hells am i making them form fitting... ugh

By form fitting i was meaning more of a smooth transition. In my minds eye i can see the material being quite thick so it wouldnt show muscle defination or anything like that. Also thier would be a layer of padding or gel type material to keep impact trauma to a minumum. I kinda look at the scout fatigues much like marine armour. just replace the armour plates and mechanical muscles with a 1/4 inch of kevlar.

scouts: legs look awesome. sculpting clothing like that can be painfully difficult. You pulled it off quite nicely, but they do look a little weird right now. I would suggest forming harder ridges on the folds, then start adding armour on top. see how simple the GW scout legs are?

If you can get the legs to that standard, you're good.

Over that you can try sculpting armour plating to fix any inconsistencies in the legs. might want to try a more extended karskin grieve with a sort of boot-top thing like on the GW scouts. Groin plate should fix some, and perhaps some terminator style thigh plates

in addition to guns 'nades etc. Thanks to GW site for lending pics :P

my two cents ;)

very very helpful post, especially with that dread which is the closest ive seen so far to the artwork. very cool, if not detail heavy.

ive since redone the legs on the scout a third time, and im pretty pleased with the result. i was thinking about adding armour to them (especially the terminator style thigh plate) though i think i wont (at least not on this guy). i intend on giving the sergeant heavier armour, more akin to power armour, since old school scouts used to be lead by marines. his armour will be like stripped down power armour, with just a shin plate covering the fatigues, and heavier armour on top (and maybe a proper backpack too.

though if i keep on running into problems with the fatigues ill probably revert to plan B: give all the scouts shin plates :)

just a 5-man unit for now. after all i only have 10 normal marines aand i dont want too many scouts! thoug hi may add more and/or redo these ones when/if my GS skills get better... though all in due course.

and i like this avatar (i wish there was a similar but pre-heresy WE one). i like the irony of making loyalist WE's while having a berzxerker avatar. funny, sicne khorne is my least favourate of all chaos gods (including Malal :D) NURGLE FTW!

please excuse the liberal updates and pics...

heres the scout legs MKIII, which i think are the best pair ive done so far. im pleased enough with them to use them in the actual squad:

photos are a great way of showing you imperfections in the model!
