Two's Companies!

Recommended Posts

Great initiative guys! I'll be watching this space, and I'll try to join in on your challenge and, over the summer, paint my own 4th company Dark Angels that have been in the making for over 10 years... >.< I'll raise the Cup of Malediction here at the Rock in salute to your success! Cheers guys!

/Angerforce.

Thanks for the replies guys! It's nice to know you have people rooting for you.

For this installment of "What's Cpt. T Working On?" I thought I would put together a painting guide for the Space Sharks. This particular way of painting them is based on original Space Shark Minis done by the 'Eavy Metal team back in the day. A seen here:

So without further ado, here is my guide:

Hopefully someone will find this useful!

I am chugging along slowly on my first tactical squad. Painting is slow, so nothing to show you guys yet.

As for upcoming units, I am still trying to decide on what my tourney list will be and this effects which units get built in what order.

Going through my Bits box I was happy to find a 10-man Assualt squad that was already primed so that gives me a head start. :tu:

A really interesting post, Cap. I like the Mk VI insignia, they're a nice touch.

Looking forward to some painted pics!

Alas, nothing new in the way of updates for me. I've started painting the tactical squad; I've got the Mechrite on the Sergeant and the Flamer guy. I never said this'd be a quick job... :P

Well, it is an update, but nothing hugely substantial from me. My friends and I have recently established a "painting club", where we can get together and paint. It's been useful for me - I'm a slow painter and I get easily frustrated and annoyed with my results. My personal terracota army's sitting on the shelf with their puppy-dog eyes going "paint me! paint me!" - and thus it becomes more of an obligation than a hobby. Making painting fun again has been useful.

Squad Tanthus has progressed a bit; I've got 9/10 of them covered in red, which is definite progress.

I've also started painting my Scout Sergeant:

http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Castigator%20Army/ScoutSergeant.jpg

and I've made a couple of his comrades, of which only one was willing to show up for the photoshoot:

And something else I've been fiddling with: Using the plastic extra armour provided with the Vindicator kit to make a Rhino. I've had a bit of trouble with it, but it's not looking too bad at the moment.

I wish both of you the best of luck, boy I wish I had enough money to do a project the size of yours!

Whatever you do, do NOT give up, any hardship down the road will feel like nothing compared to a fully painted company.

Both of your painting is great so far, and I can't imagine you guys giving up.

Well, I have been making some progress with the Castigators - by actually playing (:o) with them...

... and losing badly!

But here's the latest on Punitus, my Chaplain:

The eagle in the base is taken from one of the cenobyte servitors attached to Chaplain Grimaldus, and was inspired by Chris Borer's model of Fulgrim, which won Gold at the 2007 Chicago Games Day.

Okay, so a few more pictures. I promised Ferrus Manus that I'd update with some pictures, so here's all the ones I managed before my camera died. I've been reading the new Marine Codex and formulating ideas. I've got an army list that's based around two Tactical Squads, a Sternguard Squad in Razorback and a Thunderfire. With a Captain - Captain Anteas of the Fifth Company. Here's the model at the moment:

http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Castigator%20Army/Anteas1.jpg

http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Castigator%20Army/Anteas3.jpg

The basic model is the Master of Recruits, with a sword taken from the Black Reach Captain and a Plasma Pistol. I'm not sold on the Plasma Pistol, but I had planned on using him as Sicarius, so I put a Plasma Pistol on. Not sure, now. The head's taken from this year's Games Day model (which I managed to get off a friend who's going). As to the rest of the model, well I used the arms on this guy:

http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Castigator%20Army/Hammertime.jpg

I've also managed to get my hands on the limited edition Black Library Eisenhorn figure. He's a bit of an ugly sculpt - but it's Eisenhorn! I just have to work out what a radical like Gregor Eisenhorn is doing with the Castigators! ;)

No doubt I'll get some more pictures up soon. I just need to find the charger for the batteries! <_<

EDIT: Here's a picture of my Eisenhorn model.

The Captain looks good, but im not sure on the plasma pistol arm - it looks a little odd having both arms out to the sides, maybe a bent arm would look better?

The fella with the hammer is a great looking fig, the pose has got a lot of power to it. Now get some paint on them!

I've actually been thinking of making that Hammer Marine into a Chaplain with a twin-handed Crozius - it's not really something you see much of. I'm then stuck on whether to replace the head or paint it as a skull.

B-T-J: Yeah, it is an ugly model. I'm hoping paint will improve it a bit, but even so - it's Eisenhorn!

I like it Molotov! Its nice to see Anteas in the flesh. To be honest the plasma pistol doesn't bother me too much either way so I'd say keep it and that hammer armed dude is awesomely cool. A sergeant I presume?

Now I guess I have to uphold my end of the bargain...

It doesn't look too bad in real life. I sort of imagined that he's just swung his sword in a massive arc and is firing his pistol in the middle of a melee. I'll see if I can get some decent pictures at some stage.

Dumb question alert:

Where's you get the model with the hammer. Is that the gamesday model?

The arms are from the current Games Day model, yes. You can see that model here. The body is one of the MkI veterans, the one that has twin Lightning Claws.

A sergeant I presume?

I've never been a huge fan of Thunder Hammers (though playing Halo III recently, I'm starting to like them more...) but I've been considering converting him into a Chaplain, holding his Crozius in two hands.

P.S., Check out my Black Legion!

Liking the dude with grav-hammer, uh I mean Thunderhammer :D

Yeah, I got a better picture of him:

http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Castigator%20Army/Hammertime2.jpg

I like the Captains pose too. Looks like he's shouting obsceneties whilst shooting something in the face!

That's the look I was going for! ;) I'm hoping daylight and a better camera might absolve some of Midian's worries:

http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z121/mnesimache/Castigator%20Army/Anteascollage.jpg

(I also replaced the plasma pistol with a bolt pistol...)

Great conversions!

Never give up, never surrender!

I am doing the same thing, adding old to new.

Here is some help;

An Ink/Wash helpful for doing an entire Army.

http://www.swannysmodels.com/TheCompleteFuture.html

Make a bowel full and dip the entire figure (you will have to paint on a vehicle) Get a rubber glove, and some wax paper to set the models on so they do not stick.

Minwax (wood stain product) makes a water based satin and gloss coat (just add a paint color) as well as wood colors that makes a good dip/wash.

My WIP Company;

A close-up of the color, you can also see the difference between ink/washed and not inked/washed there is a Whirlwind next to the Land Raider.

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj313/B...hound/DA015.jpg

Steps to go;

Ink/Wash the other Half

Drybrush all

Detail all

Finish all bases

WE can finish!

Rex

did some thing similar myself (no easy task on my small scale - you guys got a lot of work!) so i wish you the very best of luck, you've got lots to do!

like yourt conversions Molotov :) good and solid, and they fit in well :) loving the Thunderhammer vet, good job :P

oh dear....reading this post is slowing you down! stop reading and get back to work! :)

best of luck,

<<Damascus>>

The older style Bolt Pistol looks pretty good to me Mol. Once again that is a nice pose.

In which case I suggest you look at this: Link

Haha, I'm slow enough already. :) Though my finances at the moment are looking decidedly grim, so my plans for the whole Company are slightly curtailed at the moment - I am resolving to build as much of it as possible. I have a lot of stuff on sprue, so I should be able to get a lot of it done without buying much more. I'm getting a free box of Sternguard soon, so that helps out as well.

Nice! I'm glad someone else had the same idea as me. Thanks for the link.
