My Doublewing (DW squad finished)

VanSan

Recommended Posts

the cannon is finished and with it my first green element of my army.

Hope you like how the three elements work together, or do you think they don't?

They do work well together - the reds and greens all match. There is some bone colouring on the cannon, but perhaps a hint of black to tie in the Ravenwing might also work? Difficult to achieve though as black is not likely to be a noticeable colour.

Personally, I think it looks great as is and matches very well.

Nicely done VanSan, I think they work very well together.

Your secondary colors (red, metals and weathering effects) work really well at tying the units together.

And the lack of or very limited use of the the primary color adds a very nice contrast.

Well done.

Can't wait to see what you post next... anything in the works?

Awesome as individual models.

Together I've had my own problems reconciling Green, Bone and black. I personally think 'eavy metals triwing examples in our codex look awful as a combined force. A bit like vomit from last night's vegetable and guniess meal

For you I think your style and weathering plus bases does most of the work for you. However I might add some personal freehanding to really say "this is one army" not 3. Not sure what style these would take though. I Think as mentioned its the ravenwing that look most disparate from the DW and GW.

Anyhow well done for doing so much in so little time.

Built three objective markers and three "fortify" (don't know the correct word but its the ability techmarines and Lysander have :D )markers for a tournament on Saturday. What do you think?

You've about got me ready to commission you on my next army. You're putting out terrific work at a more than reasonable pace. I use a quick method to get a tabletop quality look because I can't invest the time on something like this for an entire army.

I can't see anyone ever beating you out on best painted awards, and I've seen some amazing work. Pretty much each model in your army can win a golden daemon award on its own.

The TFC turn out very nicely!

Now, seriously... how long does it take you to paint one of those "objective markers"? And they are in quote because I'd say A VAST majority of players would consider them ABOVE tabletop...

Question: is it all brush or some airbrush?

Very nice work

5 hours 3 models? I guess that is one of the reasons I don't get the same results :P Its just so hard for me to find time at all to paint... forget about 5 hours!

I'm trying to get a "free" weekend to I can paint 30 terminators... obviously only to tabletop level. They already have the bleach bone, I only need to find and easy way to wash them (too much pigment, so it pools) and highlight a bit... and do the details... and finish painting the home-made resin bases... man, I feel tired already xD

Truth is I love converting/casting and similar... but your progress inspires :)

I played a tournament, yesterday and therefore I had to finish the techmarine in the morning before. I reached place 3 out of 20 and got Best Painted. Unfortunatelly I have only one pic from my army on the nicest table, but I will see if i can get pictures from other people.

That Techmarine really is something special Vansan, it goes nicely with all your other models and the blue axe head is a particular favourite. I don't think the Best Painted army is much of a suprise to anyone here as all of your work is awesome. Keep the good stuff coming please.

The black is very simple:

1. Black Priming

2. first highlight: Shadow Grey

3. second highlight: Space Wolf Grey

4. wash: Badab Black

5. battledamage: Mithril Silver dabbed with a blister sponge

I can never usually be bothered with writting praise posts, there are enough idiots on these forums who will just say everything is amazing and fantastic which gives little to say about amazing models so I shall try because I feel that your models are just well.....

The best description I could come up with for your models was 'DISGUSTINGLY AMAZING' I just couldn't think of anything else that could express my awe at your ability, they are just so good I find it offensive. I am a really painter a damn good converter and I can work the greenstuff pretty well too, I have people ooh and aaah over my models at my GW (not a feat really) but these models, these incredable pieces of work make me want to take my army onto my local main road and smile as cars speed over them again and again and again.

Your attention to detail is outstanding and I applaud you on not being one of those great painters who just paints nice models but who actually changes and tweaks them or some cases scrath builds them (your really great thunder fire cannons) to personalize your army and make it stand out.

I have a request. I am mainly an avid Blood Angel player though I play a successor chapter of my own and use a lot of dark angel parts and similar heraldry, that dark, gothic angelic feel. Could you please find it within yourself to paint some of those new fantastic blood angel models or convert some of your own and post them in the BA forums. Show the guys how its done, Even with all these amazing plastics I am yet to come across an army or even just a unit that has been as overall well done as your work. I hope this thread picks up more momentum, 11 pages is actually an insult considering what I've seen other painting blogs on this site recieve.

Keep at your amazing work.

Regards

Crynn.

Hi,

Just painted a second Trike today and because I had always problems with pictures of the dark RW colors I tried out the background from Jarheads fantastic site: http://massivevoodoo.blogspot.com/. And in my opinion there is a difference, what do you mean?
