WHOA people are still posting here. :P Sorry about the delay in posts, been working on some commission stuff for a while, bit off a little more than I could chew. Really looking forward to finishing everything and finally getting back to the Word Bearers. Anyway, thanks for the comments guys, glad you all still seem to like it. <_< Answering questions:

Marek Grimfang and ikik: Guess I'd call Blanche an influence. Mainly liked the idea of using mostly warm colors.

Lt. Coldfire: Green Stuff. Srsly! Also known as kneadatite, apparently. GW makes it.

Terminatorinhell: No Marduk, wrong Host. Been thinking about an Erebus though. Lorgar is gonna have to happen eventually - been waiting for the plastic Daemon Prince to come out.

LorgarXVII17: Got some Possessed lying around, but they're not really on my to-do list quite yet.

Should post again with some actual progress within a month or so.

Well if you don't make a marduk for your army what about me ;)

Sorry man, I got tons of stuff to paint already and honestly, Dark Creed didn't exactly blow me away to the point where I feel motivated to make a Marduk model. It DID remind me that I need to finish my Discords though. :D

Anyway, it's not much, but here's what I've got ready for painting now, aside from some of the tanks I posted a while back:

Havocs

Raptors

gallery_39401_2771_50673.jpg

No dioramas here - the second Raptor squad will of course need some "dynamic landings" though. Whole list of stuff I have to do is those, the Discords, a Termy Lord, a Sicarius conversion I posted forever ago, a Land Raider, a Predator, a Defiler, upwards of 3000 points of daemons, a Baneblade, and probably some other stuff that I can't think of right now. And I want to go back and throw some more little details (candles and stuff) onto my Terminators and maybe some of the CSMs - thinkin' the whole army needs moar fire. But, I gotta finish a couple commissions before I can do any of that.

Hay guyz, been a while, quickie update. Almost ready to get back into (relatively) regular Word Bearing, finally did something Chaosy after what seemed like ten millennia of painting turbans, horses and elephants Lord of the Rings models NON-POWER-ARMORED FILTH - I stuck an Ogre banner on one of my Terminators.

And the squad, once again with hatred.

Also, always thought my pics of the Headshot Marine from my last squad kinda sucked, so here's some new ones - showcasing the lovely mold lines on the guardsman! Oops.

Finishing up painting Ghazghkull GREENSKIN SCUM for a friend right now and then I get to work on a Games Day '03 Spess Puppeh Wolf Priest (there will be pics). After that it's back to the old dried-blood red and gunmetal.

Dan the Daemon - Glad you like it - been enjoying your NL/Alpha thread for a while. I need to post more often...

TAS - Long time no see, this time I plan to stick around.

Brother_Kaelgrim - I just got finished with a couple local commissions, which was the reason I've haven't updated much since last year. I don't plan on doing more in the near future - I barely ever paint my own stuff as it is, so painting someone else's army kinda puts a damper on my evil schemes. And I get this horrible feeling of separation anxiety when I give models back...

AL. - Thanks - always good to see a convert, welcome to the dark side, we have spiky cookies. :)

Skirax - Might I point you to the nearest Khorne cult? Thanks.

Firestorm - Thanks, planning more. :)

Anyways, he's not done yet, but... how 'bout them shiny new Blood Angels models?

He'll be my new First Acolyte, I think I'm gonna have to demote Leroy to Sorcerer. The stick thingers on his backpack will be little candles, inspired by Kikkala's army - thinking about going back and putting them on my Terminators. They still need dripping wax and little flames. Also, there's still a bunch of Flesh Tearer/eagle stuff I need to cover up with impurity seals, and of course, there will be at least one dead Guardsman.

Burias-Drak'shal - Painted? Actually, not much more than 2000 points, though with the old codex it's around 2500 (Mmm, Veteran Skills and Daemonic Gifts), maybe even 3000. Unpainted I'm pushing 5000 at the very least, this includes a Land Raider, 3 Defilers, 2 Predators, a Vindicator, a Baneblade, Raptors, Havocs, Possessed, and a little something I'm leaving as a surprise for later. I need to clear off some space so I can take a pic of it all.

Ferrus Manus - Sure, old pics never really showed the dioramas very well. I've never been able to take a particularly good shot of the Champion - the gore effects never show up well on camera - but this time it went a bit better.

Alexander Fogh Pedersen - Thanks, I intend to.

In other news, MOAR ANTI-SETH.

Thinking I'll have him jumping off a rock at some guardsmen. The stuff on his sword was supposed to be gore but the more I think about it the more I like the idea of it being daemonic fire. GREEN daemonic fire. Or maybe purple. I have a precedent for purple with the Alpha Psyker... hm. Anyway, he might need an icon or something on his backpack, still thinking - not gonna go too over-the-top with it, he's pretty busy as he is.

Waiting to hear a Call...

Hey Raz!

Just wanted to say that I'm loving your host. I have a friend who is currently working on one of his own and am going to point him towards this thread.

I do however have a few c&c's regarding your work.

First of all I love how uniform your host looks and it's simply amazing; the conversion work is grrrreat I love the terminator with tusks who is looking down at the guardsman particularly.

My real criticism however is regarding something that you mentioned near the begining of the thread about lighting and chalky paint. While the armour is wonderful and smooth I notice a very chalky texture in all of your lighting effects (particularly on the SOURCE of the lighting) if I may give some examples look at the muzzle flash on your marine (though the lighting on the gun is good and I like it alot) the actual flash is very chalky, the flame on the cadian is also chalky (as is the lighting effect on the marine).

Now being far from a wonderful painter I would take this suggestion with a pinch of salt or two. But I would work on a nice smooth base coat of a light colour and then wash, wash, wash or glaze alot and then highlight. Perhaps you are doing that already but to my eye it looks like a lot of drybrushing or overbrushing have been applied as opposed to fine highlighting. Anyways... I think doing this would really make your models all the more spectacular!

Hope I didn't sound like an arse,

Kal

Kalicurealm - I know exactly what you're talking about. The lighting effects are indeed just drybrushed - I wasn't quite happy with the effect, but I was rushing them for the last Call, plus I really had no idea what I was doing since I tend to never ask what to do until I've thoroughly screwed up at least once. :) Some of the local guys have suggested the same things you mentioned, and next time I shall endeavor to improve. Might eventually go back and try to fix the flamer and headshot guys up.

Also, today is a momentous occasion - with the six bolter mooks in my missile Havoc squad, I am officially at the halfway mark for assembly of the Cohort's infantry (not counting cultists, of course - I'm not sure if I'll ever have enough of those). I have sculpted wee little power armor greaves on 60 pairs of those damn Warrior legs. Unfortunately I've still got 60 more to go.

Progress aside from that, decided to use a Sanguinary Guard jump pack on my Raptor champ. Was going to put them on the whole squad but that requires money, a resource I do not possess.

Nothing else on the Acolyte yet, still considering options.

Right, starting on my Call vow... with a crappy pic. No space for a decent one at the moment. List is a Forge World Brass Scorpion, Ultraforge Greater Plague Daemon, 12 Missile Havocs, 12 Raptors, and Anti-Seth.

gallery_39401_2771_43176.jpg

Beginning with the Scorpion - keeping his arms separate so I can actually paint him. Don't actually know exactly what I'm going to do with him yet - the whole "screaming faces" thing has been done. We'll see.

Amazing banner! Now I'm forced to read the whole thread just because you're genius, sir.

Great spread Raz, looking forward to seeing it all get painted; especially the BS - mine is still in a partially assembled state, needing some reconstruction as the legs warped :tu: and it'll be some time before I can start painting it... When I do it'll just be Brass, like the rest of my Chaos army. It hink if you do your's the same deep red as the rest of your army it'll look very effective, and fit in well :D

Call of Chaos mkIV - May Update 1

gallery_39401_2771_8429.jpg

Guess I lied a bit about painting the Scorpion first, this model looked way more interesting. Probably halfway done, banged this all out today (except for a coat of Knarloc that got covered over) - happy with the skin, could use touchups, everything else needs work. Obviously I haven't started on several parts of him. Not sure if I'm keeping the scabs purple, but I thought it'd look good with the green. I'll likely cover them over with blood anyway. Also, aside from the Tamiya Clear Red I use for blood effects, I grabbed some Clear Green and Clear Yellow today. This'll be interesting.

firestorm40k - Good luck with your Scorpion, man - sucks about the warping. Should be able to bend the legs right back into place under some hot water unless it's really beyond redemption.

Maximvs and Alexander - Thanks, enjoy. :)
